Anyone else using this or any other media browsers/organizers? just set mine up using Plex. Pretty cool stuff.

Plex gives you one simple interface to organize all of your media: your movie and TV collection, your music library, and all of your photos and home videos. Plex enriches your media library by adding descriptions, plot summaries, posters, and album covers. Enjoy your media on every TV in the house or on any mobile device on the go.

Love this. I am currently converting all my ISOs over to folder rips so it's easier to serve the movies to mobile devices.
I just setup my system so I can stream from my htpc to my ipad at work (on lunch hours of course). The MB3 forum community is second to none when it comes to helping each other out and sharing knowledge. Been using this for a couple years now. Glad you found it as well.

Been using XMBC at home and Plex for streaming. Love Plex. Chromecast support. Apps for mobile devices. Very happy.

I have Plex on a cheapo (other than disk drives and power supply) DIY UNRAID server. Pretty slick. However, I don't torrent or have many BLU-Rays so my content is all standard definition or worst from the DVD buying era. Works great for this, but SD is harder and harder to watch on TV, but still OK for mobile. I really want to organize the video and photos I took over the years, but so far this hasn't happened.

Also being on the UNRAID linux variant means most of the channels don't work.

All in all it has cost next to nothing, runs on a DIY NAS, connects to everything I have for free or a trivial amount so even being handcuffed in willingness to obtain hi-def content or invest in underlying server it is great to have around.

I really have no ####### idea what you just said.

XBMC folks, any of you able to stream live sports with it?
Yeah, addons like Sportsdevil can do that. I have found it to be a little flaky though.

The ESPN3 addon seems to work OK for me, although I'm on Comcast internet which could help in that regard.

I also watch live TV OTA using a HDHomeRun. That works very well.

thanks. i think i will add XBMC to the mix. seems worth it for the live sports.

I swear by Plex and convert people to it whenever I can. Have the server running 24/7 on an older machine with Ubuntu. Drives are in a mirrored RAID so I don't bother backing up. Have a torrent daemon running on the server which is controlled remotely via a web UI. I have reached the holy grail.

Tell me more

You can also just set up a Win7/8.1 box and install TeamViewer. The latter will let you control the former from pretty much anywhere, and I can manage my uTorrent "downloads" whenever I like. uTorrent can also be set to follow an RSS feed and download new programs as soon as they're dropped into the swarm.

I can vouch for TeamViewer. I can control my computer using my iphone

Well I can say the one I use is qBittorrent. Tried several and this one was the best for me (always running on Ubuntu server, controlled via my main Win7 desktop via web).

The nice thing about this setup is I can turn off my Win7 machine and the downloading keeps going.

see i use transmission on my mac and download it to a share on my 2008 server. but i need to setup a rss to make this much easier and so that it doesnt need my mac to be on while downloading. Maybe ill setup an ubuntu box for this.

I have a question for the long time Plex users.

I am a newbie and just set this up last night. It has worked flawlessly so far.

The only item I am unsure how to fix is it is having problem downloading metadata for one specific TV show (it is an anime). Also for the same show, instead of showing 26 files for that TV show, it appears to only recognize one of them (even though the naming convention is identical for all files in that folder).

What do I do in this case? I know how to edit some of the basic meta data but I don't understand how to get Plex to pull in those files it is not for that one show.

Thanks for any help you could give.

Did you try Fix Incorrect Match? If you look on the server you'll see it for the files which have no metadata. From there you can search for the title and almost always find it. You select the right one from the search results and it will pull down that metadata.

If all else fails and you really want it you could always create your own metadata. I did this once for a kids DVD it couldn't find, but all I did was the DVD cover which I downloaded off the internet.

yes, I tried that but no luck.

I am not as much worried about the meta data itself as I am pretty sure I can figure out how to fix that.

What I can't figure out how to fix is how to get Plex to recognize the files themselves that are in that specific folder. There are 26 files in the folder, but plex only pulls in one of them.

The files themselves are fine as I have watched every one via a different media server.

2 fixes I know of when Plex is not finding the files:

Do a deep scan on that part of your library

Make sure your directories and naming are correct: https://oldwiki.plexapp.com/index.php?title=Media_Naming_and_Organization_Guide

That webpage makes it seem complicated but people usually only have problems with TV shows and multiple seasons.

it turned out to be the naming convention.

The name of the show is Yamato 2199. The 2199 is a year.

The 2199 was causing all kinds of confusion as Plex interpreted that title as "Yamato Season 21 Episode 99".

I can changed the file names to remove the 2199 down in the data folders and then Plex was able to pick up all the files. I then hand edited them to reflect the correct title.

Thanks for the help! Hopefully my edits will remain in place and not get overwritten the next time I perform an update.

I have a question for you guys.

I have organized my data very simply in the data manager dash board to look like:

Movies

TV Shows

This is all that shows up on my media manager and it is very clean and organized.

However, when I stream from my WDTV Live box, I see a ton more folder options

Movies

TV Shows

Video Channels

Shared Videos

Remote Videos

Preferences

etc

And then when I push into Movies, instead of there being a list of my movies, there is another layer of filtering folders

All Movies

Unwatched

By Genre

etc

Is there a way to remove all these extra folders and layers so that I just see a simple set up?

bump for the morning crowd

Set up Plex Media Server on my HTPC for my family and it runs like a top. I use it because it's so easy to use for family members who essential have no knowledge of how this #### works.

Has anyone used Rasplex and controlled it with a Harmony remote? Rasplex is Plex on Raspberry Pi, and you'd need an IR receiver that works with the Harmony.

I see some stuff online but not a whole lot of info.

is there a way to remotely power on a computer so this isn't running 24/7
why would you not want your media server to always be running? I set up my computer such that if there is ever a black out, that it will boot back up as soon as power comes on.

To answer your question, there are items you can purchase to remotely control your power on your computer. Here is just one of many

Well it looks like they make a Plex app for my LG TV so I'm going to try to do that instead of using a Pi, so nevermind for now
