***OFFICIAL 2014 WORLD SERIES THREAD: KC vs. SF*** (2 Viewers)

@OldHossRadbourn: ### #### right. RT @jessespector: Bumgarner, asked how many pitches he's capable of throwing in Game 7: "Maybe 200?"

Good for you Dentist. Good luck tomorrow. How much were they?
I'm a season ticket holder so I get a sweetheart deal. My tickets are under 300 per. I could sell them on StubHub for over 2k a piece but I enjoy baseball and consider this a once in a generation opportunity.

Jesus.....Hudson vs Guthrie for the World Series title. At least it should be action packed.

Good Luck to the fans of both teams...enjoy it!

It's no Vuckovich vs Andujar, that's for sure. (Or Smoltz vs Morris, if you prefer.)I know I'm going to go through baseball withdrawls for a while after tonight's game. Not used to having two horses in the race.

I enjoy baseball a lot. I attend usually a dozen games a year (although this year we are getting close to 20) and I watch or listen to at least a few innings of the Royals almost every night they aren't on the west coast with the 9pm start times.

But having watched 14 full 9 inning (and a few 11-12 inning) games over the past month.. I'm very excited it will come to a conclusion tonight.

I'm old.. i wake up early, and I enjoy my 10pm bedtime and I've enjoyed this, but I'm tired.. i'm fatigued... and I need a 6 month break from this.

I've got one more night of yelling, screaming, hi-fiving, standing in long bathroom lines, a midnight or later bed time, and hopefully sweet sweet vindication in me... and then I'm done.. for awhile

I wonder how much :moneybag: Peavy cost himself with his two WS starts. Shields is also a free agent and hasn't done himself any favors with a (mostly) lackluster post-season.

Peavy will most likely get a decent 2-3 yr offer from an NL team and Shields will get (over)paid. With teams extending players through arbitration years, there is not enough SP to go around and there will be $ chasing SP.

Yeah, you're probably right. There's more money in the game than available talent.

"Eddie in Astoria" just called Francesa. He's adamant that Timmy should start tonight.

Edit: and he didn't mean Hudson.

You should be ashamed. This whole WS is a fraud. WC vs WC. Heck, KC wouldnt have even made the playoffs a few years ago. Whats the point of playing a 162 game season?

The off days set up nicely to start Bumgarner on regular rest in Game 1. The DH will allow Bochy to get Morse's bat into the lineup in KC and take Butler's out in SF.

It's strange for the Giants who've been underdogs in every playoff series since 2010 positioned as the bad guys vs. America's new favorite team. The Royals' story has been a great one for a fanbase that has suffered through decades of bad baseball. At some point they're going to wake up and the Giants will still be there plugging away and taking whatever is given.
I was thinking the same thing earlier this morning. Seems like the media still perceive the Giants as the underdog in the WS too. I feel like if the Giants could take down the Nationals, they can beat anyone, but after seeing KC thus far in the playoffs and watching the regular season games vs the Giants they make me way more nervous than I was against the Cards.
8-0 is impressive but don't forget 8-2 for SF is pretty damn impressive too. I thought Washington had the best team to succeed in the postseason before the wildcards but wasn't really managed well by Williams in a few key spots.

The Royals will definitely be an interesting series. I don't think the Angels nor the Orioles are anywhere close to the Giants in terms of having a blue print to succeed in October. Oakland would have been a tougher series (more than one game) out for them IMO.

I'm not going to give as much weight to their gaudy hitting stats as a lot of people want to. SF has a better pen and manager to use it than they have seen. On the flip side, their pen is scary good and they fly all over the field on defense right now.

I anticipate a close series - closer than either team has seen in W/L thus far. But I will give the edge to the better manager, a catcher who should be to minimize KCs ability to steal bases, and the team with the better #1 starter. SF in 7.
I wish I felt better about "SF in 7" :sadbanana:

KC will offer Shields $90MM over 5 years to stay. I hope no one else out there is willing to offer him nine figures. The Royals need him at the front of the rotation, and the knuckle curve and changeup tend to age better than the four-seamer.

I have no idea what's going to happen tonight.

I assume both starting pitchers will be on short leashes, so I guess it will come down to which middle reliever blinks first.

Only seems fitting to the Royals' postseason that we see extra innings tonight.

Royals batting order tonight is the game as Game 6:

1. Escobar SS

2. Aoki RF

3. Cain CF

4. Hosmer 1B

5. Butler DH

6. Gordon LF

7. Perez C

8. Moustakas 3B

9. Infante 2B

R-L-R-L-R-L-R-L-R to protect against situational relievers.. as always the decision to bat Gordon 6th is, umm, "unconventional".

Guthrie is the starting pitcher. Jeremy Guthrie really is starting Game 7 of a World Series. MLB level World Series, too.

Awesome that Dentift is basically rooting for the Jamie Gold of baseball.
Sorry your dog#### team couldn't hold a 4-run lead against a roster that hit 95 HRs in 162 games.
Cross-fire! Ptew ptew!

My kid and I have been loudly yelling "LET'S GO ROYALS!" all week. Am I a few weeks behind you jumping on the Royals bandwagon? Yes. Does it matter, now that we're at the finish line? No.

GUTHRIE 4 LYFE!!11!!! :drive:

Giants lineup:

1. Blanco CF

2. Panik 2B

3. Posey C

4. Sandoval 3B

5. Pence RF

6. Belt 1B

7. Morse DH

8. Crawford SS

9. Perez LF

Really wanted to see Ishikawa out in left one more time this October, but you can't always get what you want.

Hudson is the starting pitcher.

Bumgarner is up and throwing in the bullpen.

I apologize. That was uncalled for. Plus, calling out Dentist for rooting for Jamie Gold is awesome shtick and I shouldn't try to distract from it.Enjoy the game tonight.

Man what an opening there by Fox. Poignant. Beautiful.
Missed it. Any guys with neck tats?
It was just a bunch of street signs with the number 7 on it, cut to hyper close-up of George Brett, back to the number 7s, crappy music plays, cut to Joe Buck.My wife:

"That was.......weird. Do they always do that?"

"Yost told us that Herrera would come in as early as the 2nd inning if Guthrie gets in trouble."

2nd inning... Guthrie in trouble... nobody warming up.

Not surprised east bayers feel this way. Lotta jealousy from the second raters.

Really nice job sticking with Peavy and Hudson, Bochy. I wouldn't have guessed you helped SF win two WS
Yeah I don't get it. Why not start Bumgarner and if he's in trouble, then you can go with Hudson. It shouldn't have been the other way around

I'll be shocked if they get anything more than an inning of productive work from Bumgarner. Throwing on 2 days rest is pretty damn hard. Soreness is still pretty intense.

Oh shoot I thought it was 3 days rest. Sorry I've been Taiwan for the past week and I lost track. In that case, I agree.

For all the times I complained about Buck leaving a guy in too long and someone said "It's not game 7 of the World Series", I guess the style of tonight is how I want to see games managed.
