Hey,

I just drew the 8th pick in my money league which is drafting tomorrow night. Am I at a serious disadvantage? Standard scoring with QB's getting 6 pts. Should I still go RB in the first? I'm hoping Lynch falls, but if he doesn't I'm not sure who I'd pick. I know some have Ball rated highly. Dare I take Manning in the first if he's there and a back like Foster or Morris in the second? Any suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

In was in the same boat a week ago (8/12) and thought I was staring at Lynch or maybe Ball and ended up thrilled when Lacy fell in my lap. First rounds don't always go as scripted as you'd think.

You're not at a disadvantage at any position. It's the picks you make that determine how the draft ends. From any position, the first 2-3 rounds is all about gaining as much safety as possible.

The 8th spot is actually a good spot depending on comfort level. You indicated 6pt/passing TD so Manning could probably be a consideration (but not for me personally). so my personal list would go: McCoy, Charles, Forte, Peterson, Calvin Johnson, Graham, Lacy, D. Thomas. I would just pick the guy out of them that falls to me that's ranked the highest.

Second round would depend on who I got in the first. RB in first then I take best WR. WR/TE then I take Ball, Murray if available. If not then Manning or best WR.

I got the 8slot in all 3 MFL best ball leagues I'm in this year and confidently picked Graham in all of them. While it's true that if all players got their projections 100% correct you would start the year at a disadvantage, it never ends that way. Fantasy football is all about hitting the mid picks and backup picks while scouring the waiver wire. As long as you pick startable players in your first 5-6 picks you're fine. I've won and lost from every position. I've won while losing 3 of my first 4 picks to injury for the year. I've lost while losing zero starters for any significant time.

If your draft goes anything like the several I have been in, you can likely get Lynch in the 2nd round. In one draft that I had the 8th pick(12 team) I was able to get Lynch with my 2nd pick. Foster and Morris have been going anywhere between the 3rd and 4th rounds. For me personally, I would only go RB in the first round if someone like Lacy fell to me. Not likely, but he did last until the 8th pick in my first draft.(of course I had the 9th in that one). Good Luck!

When passing Tds are 6 pts if manning falls to you at 1.8 you take him and don't look back. He could easily pass for 40 tds this year. That's 240 fantasy points....JUST FROM HIS TDS. That's not counting his yardage which will probably come close to 5000 again. At least 4500 yards.

You would he drafting the (probable)highest scoring fantasy player with the 8th pick.

I drafted 8th in my 12 team standard and I did not go manning bc passing tds are not 6 pts in my league. I waited and took Brady in the 6th.

If you take manning at 1.08 you can still get Julio or jordy in the 2nd rd.

3rd rd you can go gronk/Ry Mathews/k. Allen whichever floats your boat.

4th rd you'll have choices BW guys like gore, Shane vereen, c. Patterson, harvin,

You'll be fine.

You have answered your own question my friend. It's all there and you need not look far to find it.

I've looked at several recent drafts. For PPR, though, so take FWIW. Most likely available @1.08= D.Thomas, J Graham, E Lacy. For Rd 2, good chance of getting Lynch or Bernard and, for WRs, the Nelson/Brown tier. I personally couldn't do a QB that early, esp, since I believe it is not likely Manning will repeat his overperformance vs other top tier QBs.
