ESPN.com is working hard to optimize your Fantasy Football experience. We are currently updating rosters and standings for your league. You will be able to access your league after the update process is complete. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

This is such crap. They've had all year to prepare their servers and databases for fantasy football and in week 1, they can't even keep their site up.

Yeah, sure...it takes half a day to "update rosters and standings."

Never again, will I agree to join a league on ESPN.

it does if you're ESPN. THey also converted my live draft, planned for a month, to autopick without notice.write and complain. after a week they wrote back and said they had given me the edge and 1 year of the insider for free. insider does work, but they have not activated the edge, despite the past tense, so i wrote back again..may as well get something since we're stuck with this mess.

All the members of our league have emailed and complained...not just about the issue today. We've had problems with Edge also. I've sent two emails today alone. It's just inexcusable. I could make a list of a half a dozen problems we've had in just the first week or two.

I don't think any of the sites are worth crap these days. MFL's live scoring was not working Sunday. Right now it takes about 2 minutes to load any of the pages.

Yeah they are the absolute WORST fantasy site this year. That message is complete crap, the servers are down because they went free this year, and the idiots didn't upgrade the hardware to handle all of the leagues. You would think they'd have some common sense and know that the amount of leagues on that site will increase 10 fold this year because it's free, and the advertising with those stupid bimbo's every five minutes during sportcenter.. i'm soo pissed :hot:

i was more tactful, but that's pretty much what i said to them in my e-mail. this is amajor marketing/p.r. blunder.

I love the fact that if you're in a free league and don't have live scoring, you can't even get in now to see the standings. It's like a double F.U.MFL was bad on Sunday but CBS had its moments of frozen stats as well.

Surprisingly my 1 league that's run on Yahoo Plus was the best one. Stat tracker was working well all day. No probs at all.CBS wasn't totally bad either. Just for a few moments.

You can count me in.ESPN was horrible  Once the games started we couldn't get on until 8pm.The NFL network was just as bad.

That it is free is no excuse. I don't see these problems with the numerous other free fantasy sites. Plus, our league paid $100 for the EDGE service on ESPN. We have something invested in this league, even if it is minimal. These problems completely screw up with week 1 waiver system. ESPN is going to lose a lot of patrons over this.

Honestly I think I have seen every major site (mfl.com, aol, espn, etc) been featured in a thread where it has been down or having some glitches this year. Think fantasy is still being overrun by the masses and volume is an issue everywhere.

See that's just what i thought. I like how they lied and said "we're updating the rosters". C'mon that's just :bs: . They screwed up by assuming they could operate the fantasy site, with the same hardware capacity they had last year. Meanwhile, since it's free, everybody and their mother has a league on that site. It doesn't take a astro physicist to realize you need to prepare for an increase in the amount of league that are created... I'll never have a league on that site agian

The real BS is how are they going to handle the waiver wire. I mean if we cannot get in we cannot put in pickups, and that means anyone lucky enough to get in earlier today will get all the good players.

No problems with rtsports or Yahoo Fantasy Football so far this season. Scores update pretty quickly, too.Edit: I'm not saying this to rub it in, but to try to turn some of you onto these sites for next season.

count me in as a commissioner of a CBS league that didn't have any issues (or complaints from team owners) this weekend :fro: I'm in another league which is unfortunately hosted on ESPN (edge not free) and I still haven't been able to see my score yet. not sunday, yesterday or today. :wall:

That's right... I'm the commish, and I knew the quality of the site wouldn't be the same once it went free. So i guess some of this is my fault. I should've moved the leauge to CBS when i had the chance. The league i have there has had no problems at all..

I called and got my money back from ESPN. The guy on the phone was very nice and was well aware of the problems. I will not be using them for quite a while.

what's the #? I tried going to the page that you can contact by phone, but it defaults to the same message

Go ahead and throw eggs at me also, but CBS ran perfectly for us this weekend. Fanball screwed up the scoring all weekend, and their draft engine stinks. I wouldn't play anywhere else but CBS for serious leagues.Go ahead..

I am going to reserve judgement on MFL until after this weekend. They were only down for the first half of the noon games, and live scoring was problematic, but not a total lost cause. They say they have corrected for it, so we will see. To think one of my owners was complaining and saying he wished we were back at ESPN just last week. Customer service is the #1 reason I switched.

MFL was bogged down a little bit on Sunday, but they had the same problem last year week 1. I think they need a full load of users to see what it takes to handle all the site enhancements, then they upgrade. We'll see Week 2.

That makes it 10 times as lame. Our site was extremely slow/not working all day. I give them one more week to get it straight - if we have problems like that again, they've lost me for 06. At least w/the free sites it was free.

Which is why good old reliable software like FFLM and your own host are the way to go. I have complete control over my leagues with FFLM. And their stats delivery has always been reliable.Do we really need live online stats, and lineups instantly? Same goes for transactions. I'm in a CBS league as well this year, and I hate it... so inflexible from a commish standpoint, and an absolute ripoff for $150. Hell, it wouldn't even accept transactions after the Thursday game this week unless I forced them through as Commish. CBS is garbage IMO, and if that's the standard bearer for online leagues, then I want no part. I've also used MFL over the years, but I really prefer Mike Hall's original product FFLM over his online version.

I pay $40 for FFLM stats every year and run 3 leagues with it. No other way to go IMO,. Bit more work for the commish, but also way more customizable and flexible. They also have stat updates every 20 minutes on gamedays, and with add-on apps like Auto-FFLM you can keep your websites updated every 30 minutes or so.

I love the fact that if you're in a free league and don't have live scoring, you can't even get in now to see the standings. It's like a double F.U.

MFL was bad on Sunday but CBS had its moments of frozen stats as well.
My belief is that it was the live scoring that caused the problem. The deal on ESPN was supposed to be you pay, you get live scoring, no pay, no live scoring. But I had both paid for and free leagues....and had live scoring for them all. Same way with my wife and a friend of ours.

I think they screwed up on the restriction on live scoring, with the result that the live scoring servers were overwhelmed by the sheer number of users accessing it.

I've played on ESPN for 6 years. I'm going elsewhere next year.

I guess you get what you pay for.

Not RTSports. Up all weekend, and FAST.

As I see it, this is an enormous black eye on the company and that's why you see the previously posted GM letter. Given their resources and the $$$ spent on marketing fantasy football this year, there is ZERO excuse for server optimization or load issues. Pathetic. And as a long-time customer, their customer service has gone from bad to inexcusable in the process.

Xpertsports.com has been great. Cheap and 100% functional from start of season to present. Hopefully you'll stay away to avoid it being bogged down in future years :) .

This is such crap.  They've had all year to prepare their servers and databases for fantasy football and in week 1, they can't even keep their site up.

The offering of a free site should have been your first clue to switch over. Been using RTS for 3 years and never had a problem. Used Fanball in one league last year and it was terrible. I have heard good things about CBS but the price is a little steep.

I'll chime in with another pitch for rtsports. They appear to be about half the price of CBS (if you get their early bird) and we had absolutely no problems this year. In some prior years it was a little slow week 1, but they always resolved the issue. This year was fast. Sorry to hear ESPN had issues, I know that would make me pissed.

Yeah like i said further down in the thread, it was definitely a mistake. When they went free, I should've bailed. I just figured since they were a big company with plenty of resources, i thought they would still be capable of running a good site. I've been sadly mistakened..

Update on ESPN's site:

Notice: ESPN.com Fantasy Football is currently unavailable as we work hard to optimize your Fantasy Football experience. We are currently updating rosters and standings for your league. We are working diligently to complete this update process by 12:00 AM ET. You will be able to access your league after the update process is complete. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
So with everybody pounding them at 12:00, they'll be down again by 12:05 AM.

Here you go:(888) 549-ESPN (3776)

I stated that our league had a horrific draft (no one could use the java applet) and that the site has been down all day. The guy refunded my CC.
