Rams 2nd receiver (1 Viewer)

Sorry no official link, I just saw this on a local news cast. The St. Louis Rams have cut Issac Bruce. They said that they are going to continue to work with him to resign. With this happening, who is the guy behind T Holt.

As a Curtis owner, I'm pulling for him.

I'm not sure you can bump Holt on this. I'd rather have a Bruce on the other side to take some attention away. Now teams can double Holt exclusively

this was a roller coaster... i knew his cap number was too high to carry this season without being renegotiated... then it sounded like he would redo the deal... now the latest i heard (i didn't read link above if redundant) was that he didn't object to lowering cap number in principle... but he didn't think rams were cap strapped (i think they are currently about $10 million under)...

OTOH, maybe bruce can be made to understand he isn't worth $10 mill, & he wouldn't get it anywhere else... & the rams have multiple needs on the defense that the extra cap money could be used for... even if CBA is signed & new cap zooms north of $100 mill, i can't see justification for $10 mill contract...

maybe he will come to his senses... too bad, because he could have been an assett for another few seasons...

curtis would have to be choice over mcdonald... there aren't a lot of great FA WRs in this class... curtis came out like gangbusters last season, but seemed to wear down & didn't finish season strong... that could have been due to QB position flux... i'm not sure he can be a viable WR2 for a whole season, & isn't a miscast WR3... dude has some serious wheels, though, if he holds up... he is like don beebe on crack.

Wow...the Rams had openly maintained re-signing Bruce was a priority and had been in negotiations for some time. The Rams loss is going to be someone else's gain [hopefully the Eagles  ]

Was wondering how long you'd take for this comment :)

Holt didn't seem to suffer with Curtis playing #2 WR last season when Bruce was hurt...

this sounds like a new development...

Rams | Bruce may stick after all

Sun, 5 Mar 2006 20:35:19 -0800

ESPN's John Clayton reports the St. Louis Rams may not release WR Isaac Bruce after all due to the recent extension of the waiver deadline. Bruce was a cap casualty under the previous deadline, but the Rams may choose to remove his name from that list and continue to use the extra time to work out a new contract with him.

Ike is from Florida. If he doesnt re-do a deal with the Rams, Tampa or Miami is a possibility. But, Id say he wants to either play in a dome or turf environment or a warm environment. He plays much better on turf. Having said that, I think he'll go to Carolina.

My prediction: Isaac Bruce signs with the Redskins. Gibbs loves verteran leadership.
How the heck are they gonna sign anyone with no money under the cap? Last I heard they still had a looonnnggg way to go to.

Think he may just resign in St. Louis for less? He can't be too far from playing his entire career with the Rams. If he doesn't stay, what about KC?

There was a lot of talk about Bruce to KC last year, but with new coaching, Parker emerging as a legit #2, I doubt it happens now.Philly would be a much more likely canidate.

Will the Rams really throw it around the yard the way they used to without Martz? I think Holt is still money, but I'm a little wary about getting too worked up about the new WR2 just yet....there may be too many options and WR2 just means starter, not necessarily Bruce numbers like we are used to.

Even though Vermiel and Sauders are gone I thought it may be a good fit since it is basically the same system (terminology wise) that he has been running for quite some time. I'm still not sold on KC's WR corps and it seems neither is Edwards if they are considering bringing in the cancer that is TO.

I think Bruce will sign with a team that he views as a contender, and it won't be about the money [i don't think any team is going to open up the coffers for him at this point].

Team I could see taking a look at Bruce...

Miami
New England
Houston
Denver
NY Giants
Philadelphia
Washington
Chicago
Carolina
Tampa Bay

I don't think Houston is a viable candidate, especially if you think Bruce wants to sign with a contender. Even if Houston is improving, they have 4 tough games a year (Indy / Jax x2).

What? No mention of Bruce in the Mad Martz offense in Motown? RW

The Rams tendered Curtis at the highest level, so he is likely their choice to assume Bruce's role.

Houston was the one name I was most on the fence about including. But with McNair having deep pockets, the team having more needs than it can address in the draft, and a desire to surround David Carr with the pieces to legitimately evaluable if he's a franchise QB this year [so they can move on next year if he proves his doubters correct], I could see them adding a veteran receiver to line up opposite A.J.

Something to think about...Al Saunders also used to be a coach in STL w/ Vermeil. Does that mean it will happen, not sure. Just thought I'd through it out there!

:banned: Bruce lives in Memphis; never wanted to live in St. louis and did his workouts in East Memphis. Loves that part of the state; any football team near by ?Shaw might go for giving Bruce 5 millon but the time has come to move on. :excited:

i think they offered him 5 million, but he stated an unwillingness to take a pay cut since the rams were not cap strapped (like say, the redskins)...

i don't see anybody giving him 8 million in 2006...

there seems to be conflicting information... he has said he wanted to finish his career as a ram... heck i would to if they paid me 8 million this year... :)

so unless this negotiating experience has made him feel unappreciated by STL, if he can't get any more anywhere else, i could see him re-signing...

another potential factor in his decision making process could be that with a new coaching regime in place, his team loyalty can't be invoked in the same way as if his old HC martz was still there...

Haven't seen his name mentioned but Nate Burleson did remarkable under Linehan in 2004 (1000/8) and would seem to be a perfect possession receiver to compliment Tory Holt's deep speed. If the Rams can land him for a 3rd it would be a great move IMHO.

Kevin Curtis 60 801 13.4 83 6 Tds

They have this guy in their own back yard , i dont think they need to address #2 WR.

He is the fastest WR on the Rams roster has good hands and runs decent routes .

JAX is also said to be in the market for a WR and as an earlier poster mentioned he is from FLA. Strong chance to make the playoffs too.

Where did you get that from? I'm not saying it's not true it's just that I've never once heard that. Also, it's not like Memphis and St. Louis are drastically different towns. They are pretty similar and only about 4.5 hours apart from each other as well.

They also have Reggie Williams, Matt Jones and Wilford. If Jimmy Sniff is expensive or according to the team on his last legs then maybe.

Hmm, CBA extension, Arringotn gives them $4M, other vets willing to restructure, cutting a few players who are not contributing... it's starting to look like another buying season for the Redskins.Honestly, I don't expect the Redskins to be very active in free agency, but I have a feeling the Isaac Bruce is a guy they will go after very hard.

Going for him:

proven productive player

seasoned vet

strong Christian

Bruce is the perfect match for Gibbs.

I had trouble seeing the Redskins signing Randle El for 4 years and $16 M. I don't see any problem signing Bruce to a contract like that.

.. and I think Smith/Wilford/Williams would be good enough yet...."Bart Hubbuch, of the Florida Times-Union, reports the Jacksonville Jaguars could look for an impact wide receiver through free agency."

... so I was just mentioning what I had read.

If Curtis gets a full season starting opportunity, I put him around 75-1100-8. Bruce would have to go elsewhere for those numbers to occur though.

As a Chiefs fan, I cant imagine how Samie Parker is a legit #2. He drops too many balls and should be quicker than he is.

The Chiefs need someone reliable to help Kennison (who is in his golden years now). Bruce would be awesome for the team for 2-3 years but how the hell they'll sign him w/ the cap issues is beyond me

I have Curtis in all my dynasty leagues and I've been sitting on him waiting for this moment. I think he will put up numbers in the 1,050 & 7-9 TD range.

Isn't Curtis going to be a popular restricted free agent?

Also he's not the youngest up and coming receiver either.
The Rams have only two of their top five receivers from a year ago currently under contract: Torry Holt and Dane Looker. However, the Rams have made tender offers to restricted free agents Kevin Curtis and Shaun McDonald. Curtis and McDonald can receive offers from other teams, but the Rams can match any outside offers.
