Zzzzzzzzzzzz.
As a continuation of the work OZ (and Tick) did in his positional dynasty polls, I am going to run a series of polls on overall player rankings in a dynasty league. This will allow us to see both how people's values of the players have changed in the last couple of months and how people value the players relative to each other across positions. I am going to attempt to get as many of these done before the NFL Draft as possible because player values will fluctuate wildly at that point, and I may just let OZ take over with a new series of position polls at that point. (I am also doing this before the Draft because some of us have fantasy drafts starting that day.) In order to make this most applicable to everyone, let's assume a standard lineup and scoring rules.

Standard fbg scoring rules:

1 pt per 10 yards rushing/receiving

6 pts per rushing/receiving TD

1 pt per 20 yards passing

4 pts per passing TD

-1 per INT

3 pts per FG

1 pt per XP

Lineup:

1 QB

2 RB

3 WR

1 TE

1 RB/WR/TE flex

1 K

1 D

I started this poll by including the top ten players in the staff rankings plus the consensus top rookie. I don't expect these polls to mirror the staff rankings, and there should be some interesting discussion as a result, but I will add the next players to the poll from the staff rankings if necessary. I would prefer to add players only after they have gotten a couple of other votes in the previous poll. Some of these players probably won't get any votes for now, but I'm not going to temporarily remove them as OZ did because I don't think the clutter among the poll choices will be an issue for now. Anyway, on to the rankings.

1. RB LaDainian Tomlinson, SD

2. RB Larry Johnson, KC

3. RB Shaun Alexander, SEA

4. RB Clinton Portis, WAS

5. RB Steven Jackson, STL

6. RB Ronnie Brown, MIA

7. (Runoff) RB Cadillac Williams, TB

8. RB Reggie Bush, NCAA

9. (Runoff) RB Lamont Jordan, OAK

10. RB Willis McGahee, BUF

11. QB Peyton Manning, IND

12. (Runoff) RB DeAngelo Williams, NCAA

13. WR Larry Fitzgerald, ARI

Who is the #14 player to have in a dynasty league? If you vote other please list the player. If you think someone else should be added next round let me know.

I will probably put the next poll up sometime tonight.

Rudi at #14 seems like a steal in non-PPR leagues.
What's his long-term value? How long before Chris Perry take over?
tell me who has more talent, opportunity and longevity among RBs left. If you would rather have a WR, TE, or QB, fine. Just not RB.

Rudi is just now going into his prime, so I don't think Chris Perry will be taking over anytime soon, if at all.

One of these two should be traded while the Bengals can get something for 'em.

Problem is, Chad Johnson, Torry Holt, Antonio Gates, Randy Moss, and Anquan Boldin are all much better football players than Rudi. I can't see myself taking Rudi over any of those guys in a dynasty league.

Agreed, it goes against my "Perry is a stud in the wings, if Rudi ever got injured, he'd never get the job back" train of thought.I went with Edge, but can easily see Gates or CJ here.

I voted Rudi, he has just come off two top ten finishes. His play gives him enough talent for my liking. He hasn't been injured at all and he gets a heavy work load. The only thing scary about him is Perry but that could be something like the Martin Jordan situation where Perry will never really get a shot until he moves on. Just my thoughts.

Cannot believe Rudi is getting this much love. I must have him undervalued because I think he is has marginal potential this current year and possibly a demotion by next year.

RB Rudi Johnson, CIN [ 19 ] [19.79%] RB Edgerrin James, ARI [ 25 ] [26.04%] WR Steve Smith, CAR [ 11 ] [11.46%] WR Chad Johnson, CIN [ 18 ] [18.75%]
so edge is going to take this one, but i see the next two players being chad johnson and steve smith. both totals are lower that rudi's but i suspect that is a difference of opinion on which WR to select...not a pro-rudi one

Kevin Jones.
:blackdot: remembered :hophead:
Ok, let's revisit this in a couple years when Rudi is out of a job and KJ is in the Pro Bowl.

I was referring to a league we share .....

Perhaps, but while the WRs will continue to split the vote, the pro-RB lobby will vote Rudi into the slot.

Rudi gets the sort of respect or lack of respect that tiki barber got not so long ago

Edit-Rudi was the #8 RB in my ppr league last yr and #12 overall if you remove the QBs and IDP players

Rudi reminds me of Travis Henry, i wouldn't vote for him in the top 30.

Chad Johnson gets the vote. Edge is also a solid choice and i'm surprised at the lack of Moss love.

Here is my :2cents: on the rankings of the current players.

I gotta value the RBs here, not wholly because I am a "RB first no matter what".

But because of the dropoff after Rudi.

Say you are in a 16 team league picking 14th and 19th overall.

Are you gonna pick Chad here and take Brian Westbrook 19th? Westbrook would be a reach but if you don't take a RB, you don't pick again for another 30 picks, at which point even guys like Droughns and Chestor Taylor might even be gone.

Sooo would you rather have Chad and Westy or say.... Rudi and Holt?

This is obviously only if you're in a big league, but in that case I don't know why you'd want to take a WR here while there are still two well above avg. RBs.

As for the Kevin Jones fans.... did you HAVE him on your team last year? I'd put him in the same category as Jamal Lewis, maybe a little higher.

Edit: I forgot Barber was also on the board here, so I'm basically making this argument for the 16th pick when James and Barber are gone

If it's a TE league I would probably take Gates unless the run on RB'S made me alter. Palmer if healthy up around here too. Julias Jones would be MY most attractive RB pick around now and he's not even up there for vote so my vote went to Gates by default!

what makes you say this? I honestly am interested in your answer(s)

I wouldnt pick him nearly this high either. He's a one diminsional no frills runner who most teams wouldnt want as their featured running back. I'm going to put all my dynasty stock in that guy? No way.My next few picks would look something like...

Gates

Moss

Boldin

Lewis

Jones

Benson

I've been picking Gates for a number of votes now. I can see I'm having no impact on the voting and wont for some time yet.

I've been right there with you. Gates is easily a top 10 dynasty player.
