2006 Player Spotlight Series

Over the course of the offseason, we will be evaluating a multitude of players at every fantasy position. One such way we go about that is through the Player Spotlight series. Think of the Spotlights as a permanent record on some of the more intriguing players for the upcoming season. Each Spotlight will be featured in an article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Jake Delhomme, QB, Carolina Panthers

Player Page Link: Jake Delhomme Player Page

Each article will include:

[*]Detailed viewpoint from a Footballguys staff member

[*]Highlighted member commentary from the message board threads

[*]FBG Projections

[*]Consensus Member Projections

The Rules

In order for this thread to provide sustainable value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:

[*]Focus commentary on the player in question, and your expectations for said player

[*]Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"

[*]To be included in the final synopsis and consensus outlook, you MUST provide projections for the player

Projections should include (at a minimum):

[*]For QBs: Passing Yards, Passing TDs, Ints, Rush Yards, Rush TDs

[*]For RBs: Rushes, Rushing Yards, Rush TDs, Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs

[*]For WRs & TEs: Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs

Best of Luck and ENJOY!

Jake is like any normal guy. He has a one-track mind. With Mushin in 2004 and Steve Smith in 2005, you can tell he focuses on one receiver, possibly to a fault.

Even though Smith destroyed other WRs last year, Delhomme was just TENTH among QBs. He does add some talent this year with Keyshawn Johnson, but will that be enough for him to spread the ball around and increase his stats?

I think so. Also, I think Carolina's not going to be as good defensively, so that'll mean a few more attempts for him as well.

3700 passing yards, 27 TD, 17 INT.

I hope that Delhomme learns to go through his reads a bit more rather than leaning completly on one target this year. It would make him a much better FF QB while at the same time making Car a much better team. I just don't see it happening though. I feel that the running game is going to be much improved from last year with Williams in the fold and this could reduce the passing numbers.

Projection

450 atts, 275 comp, 3380 yds, 22 TDs, 15 Ints, rushing stats are meaningless.

This is about what I see.3800-4000 yards is a pipe dream. Better running game and a better defense will keep Delhomme from having to put up that kind of yardage through the air.

CAR doesn't attack people through the air in the way Indy or NE does.

I love this guy, but I think this is the first year he will be overvalued (just by a tad). Although Carolina has added a receiving weapon, they also added a rushing weapon in D Williams in the draft this year. Unless he proves to be a true Carolina RB in the form of Biaka, S Davis, Shelton and Foster (i.e. injured all the time), they may be able to establish a consistent rushing threat from the beginning of the season to the end of it.

I predict 3500 yards, 22 TDs 14 INTs.

You will see Jake's stats down this year merely as a function of attempts. I think he's peaked in his developement and the rushing attack will be improved. Smith effectively served as a RB because the Carolina ground attack was one of the worst in the league. As I recalled, they were 2nd to last in ypa going into the Chicago regualr season game. Foster and Williams will push that average up and eliminate the need to pass as much.

What you get with Jake is a guy that should be the POSTER QB for drafting a QB late...if you wanted to draw a FF comp to an NFL comp you can look at Jake vs Dilfer(balt sb year)...Dilfer just had to be consistent and not lose the game...Jake is similar for FF in that he isnt gonna see the bench...he wont put up many monster games but he wont put up any major duds either...his production will be very similar to QBs taken atleast 3 rounds prior to him

3500-3800 25tds 15ints

rushing 25/40 1td

I dont see his stats really falling off very much if at all

 We both nailed his breakout 2 years ago...Im betting we are both nailing his regression now.

3,550 yards   26 TDs   12 INT

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Care to wager on the INTs? FBG subscription for enxt year?
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Sure. Since I predict 12 INTs and you predict 14, what happens if he ends up with 11, 13, or 15?

> 13 You buy my subscription.< 13 I buy your subscription.

13 Push and FBG hires us to do all the Carolina projections next year. :D

This also needs to be on a per game starter basis average in case of injury. I don't want to lose both my QB and a bet.

> .8125 You buy.

< .8125 I buy.

.8125 Push.

I'm in. :boxing:

One other disclosure...I'll probably have a "BnB takes candy from Simey" hyperlink in my sig as a reminder about this. :D I guess in fairness I should let you know that I clipped Lhucks and Cappy over the last two years on Carolina wagers.

Ok. This is regular season stats correct? No pre or post season. So...does this mean you are going to be cheering for Jake to throw interceptions?

I hope this bet doesn't bring some sorta icky karma to Jake this season. I can't help but wonder if I just made a deal with the devil. :boxing:

:stirspot: Deal

Jake Delhomme INT's on a per game started basis in the regular season.

> .8125 You buy me a FBG sub.

< .8125 I buy you a FBG sub.

.8125 Push.

Accumulating those INTs won't require any cheering, I'll be cheering that he doesn't go totally Favre. bassnbrewrules

:bye: Even if he plays next week and doesn't throw an INT, he'll be at .846 which means you can put down the popcorn and get the check book.
I knew this bet would curse Jake. PM me an address where I can send you money for a subscription fee. :hot: By the way, did I ever tell you that I have a bad habit of writing rubber checks?So...who do you think will be quarterback this weekend for the final game? Weinke or DeAngelo?

Well DeAngelo is more effective. I was embarrassed to be a fan last week and won't watch the game this week if Weinke starts. That was the worst display of football I've seen at a professional level. Regarding the rubber checks...did I ever tell you that I'm a property manager so the sheriff is on my speed dial. :D
