I am not a Jags homer or an NFL coach, but I would not want Ashley Lelie to be the guy I go to when I need a receiver to make a clutch catch. He has speed and is dangerous when he has the ball, but he was only targeted an average of 5.5 times per game last year.
He was ranked 45th in targets with 88 and caught just 47.7% of them. Rod Smith caught 67.5% from the same quarterback.
Of the 44 players that were targeted more than Lelie, only Burress (45.8%), Muhammad (47.1%), Brandon Lloyd (44.0%), Greg Lewis (45.7%) and McCareins (42.0%) had a lower percentage of receptions to targets. At least three of those players suffered from poor quarterback play.
For comparison, Wilford caught 41 of 74 (55.4%), Jones 36 of 69 (52.2%) and Williams 35 of 63 (55.6%).
Lelie is a possible game breaker, but he is not reliable. There is a reason Denver went out and traded for Javon Walker.
I am not saying a move for Lelie couldn't happen, but it wouldn't be my choice, and if I were a Jax fan I would not be hoping for it.
ETA: I realize that many of Lelie's targets would have been long passes and that would reduce the percentage, but it's still a very low figure.
