(Rotoworld) The Green Bay Press-Gazette confirms Ahman Green won't be able to practice until late August.

Impact: Green is near the top our list of players to avoid in fantasy drafts this season. There is no telling what kind of player he is going to be after missing nine months with a torn quadriceps.

I know there were similar threads, but this news just came out. Its official. He doesn't being practicing until late August..

His contract is structured in a way that if he can not play this season or is very limited or just doens't make a comeback, he can be cut and there is very limited impact on the cap.He did get a signing bonus but it wasn't much.

The Green Bay staff I think are mixed on what he will do. In the past a few other players had this injury and were never the same.

Yep. I kept hearing Santan Dotson and Steve Warren mentioned by those in the Packer media. Completely different to have a D lineman come back from this. Green might never be the same, and him missing this much time is a huge red flag.Personally, I think Davenport has a good shot at making an impact. He is an injury risk for sure, but he has the tools to be a good NFL running back.

If Green is done -- and frankly I think he may very well be -- don't be surprised if Davenport opens the season as the starter. But he's a safe bet to get hurt so Gado remains the RB with the highest value in Green Bay IMO.

Those are the two. Even from a fan point of few, and I am not alone in this opinions, those two were never the same after their injury.

lets not forget that Green wasnt exactly tearing it BEFORE his injury last year - in fact Gado was much more impressive...

Gado had three 100 yard games in seven starts, and was on his way to a 4th before getting hurt (6 for 45 before the first quarter was over).

If Gado was a 2nd or 3rd round pick instead of a UDFA, he would be the favorite to win the job in everyone's mind, and one of the hottest sleeper RBs in this year's drafts. His situation is almost identical to Gore's, except Gado is actually healthy right now.

This just makes him an even better value play in July.
I know I'll be taking the chance on Green in a few drafts if he slips to the mid/late rounds because of this.It kind of reminds me of May-July last year when Stephen Davis was being written off. He ended up being a real nice late round pick.

i wouldnt be surprised if davenport started i would be freaking shocked.its gados world, enjoy the ride.

Let's also not forget that Green wasn't exactly healthy in those early weeks and Green Bay's interior O-line had some new inexperienced bodies. It wasn't until mid season and after Green was placed on IR before the O-line started to show some improvement. This will only cause Green to fall further in drafts and become even more of a low risk/high reward value.

How do you guys feel about GB having a zone running scheme? Will this help or hurt Gado. He is so raw, is it an easy system to learn? I'm thinking of taking a chance on him.

Thanks in advanced

IMO, the zone blocking scheme speaks for itself. Look at what Denver has accomplished during the past decade utilizing the scheme. Atlanta implemented it two seasons ago and finished first in the entire NFL in rushing yards the past two seasons. :banned:

So, is that something Gado shouldn't have a problem adjusing too.

Same type of O'line blocking scheme he ran behind in College...so no, he shouldn't have a problem adjusting.

I'd definitely consider taken a chance with Gado, but with this news and Davenport's injury history, Gado might be going too high for my liking.

If his ADP climbs to the 4th round territory, I don't see Gado making many of my teams. I think he is plenty capable of having a nice year if given the proper amount of work, but I'm not sure I would want to risk that high of a pick on him at the moment.

As long as this is the consensus, I'm happy knowing Green's value continues to increase as more write him off.

Gado was injured at the end of the season last year; how is he doing now? Everything good to go?

He's fine. The injury he had at the end of the year was relatively minor and would have only kept him out a few weeks if it had happened earlier in the season.

Last night Milwaukee sports did a story on Gado. He currently is interning at a hospital in the Green Bay area. Didn't look like he is had any physical issues.

Gado played in a zone running system in college.

It is a new contract and not for a ton of money otherwise this applies to every similar contract

Not exactly a fair comparison as Gado got over 20 carries in 5 of his 7 starts whereas Green averaged only 15 carries in his 5 games and didn't break 20 carries in any of them. Gado specifically got 25, 26, and 29 carries in his 100 yard games.A proper comparison would be that Gado averaged a slight tick above 4 ypc, while Green averaged only 3.3 ypc.

OLD NEWS for me. Anyone foolish enough to be on Green deserves what they get and if I go back to my post ( get a feeling i may? whewwwwwwwwwwwwwww!) and check their are many around here. Once again how can he possibly be ready top play week one with this time table? He can't and his ranking needs to FLY down fast if your smart..thei KRS dude is dying to get this log on his roster...have fun with that..I say this..IN GADO WE TRUST! This guy could be a differnce maker this year..get him on ROSTERS.

McCarthy mentioned only one player who won’t attend, halfback Ahman Green, because of a charity commitment. Green is recovering from a torn quadriceps tendon and won’t be ready to practice until late August anyway
