Zoo York
2006 Player Spotlight Series

Over the course of the offseason, we will be evaluating a multitude of players at every fantasy position. One such way we go about that is through the Player Spotlight series. Think of the Spotlights as a permanent record on some of the more intriguing players for the upcoming season. Each Spotlight will be featured in an article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Joe Jurevicius, WR, Cleveland Browns

Player Page Link: Joe Jurevicius Player Page

Each article will include:

Detailed viewpoint from a Footballguys staff member
Highlighted member commentary from the message board threads
FBG Projections
Consensus Member ProjectionsThe Rules

In order for this thread to provide sustainable value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:

Focus commentary on the player in question, and your expectations for said player
Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"
To be included in the final synopsis and consensus outlook, you MUST provide projections for the playerProjections should include (at a minimum):

For QBs: Passing Yards, Passing TDs, Ints, Rush Yards, Rush TDs
For RBs: Rushes, Rushing Yards, Rush TDs, Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs
For WRs & TEs: Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDsBest of Luck and ENJOY!

With Jurevicius it's always a question of health. Ironically, he'll be the default number one as Braylon Edwards attempts his return from his ACL injury. Maybe Joe can put it together and stay relatively healthy this year. Maybe not.

72 receptions, 875 yards, 7 TDs

Unfortunately for Jurevicius, I can't see Cleveland offense taking off this year because they didn't get any immediate help from the draft and free agency except for Bentley.

I'll go out on a limb and predict that Winslow, not Jurevicius, will be Cleveland's #1 receiver because of his position as a TE providing a safety valve for Frye and Frye has been hanging out with him a lot lately= positive chemistry. As a #2 wr, Jurevicius might pose similar receiving yardage stats from 2005 but his TD numbers will take a hit.

2006 Stats: 59 catches, 704 yards, 4 touchdowns.

Joe J = FUBAR's value pick for 2006 right now.

75/900/8 = very good value as the #44 WR in ADP.

900-1100 yards8TDs

JJ will be a good vlaue pick in redraft leagues and leagues that start 3 WRs or a flex or 2.

40 catches 500 yards 5 TDs

WAYYY overrated IMO
Is this projection over 16 games? Even if you think he's overrated, with Edwards out until at least October, and unlikely to be 100% all season, don't you think his numbers will have to be higher than this, assuming he plays 16 games?

No!Dennis Northcutt is good in a "get the job done" sorta way.

One author surmised(thread here) that rookie Travis Wilson will start and Romeo said he'd play.

Winslow is so talented Frye will be locked on him alot.

Frye threw for 1000 yards in 7 games last year. That isn't even close to a 4k yard QB in 2006 IMO. That's a no mistake, take it easy with the pass, let's run type offense.

8 years of Joe, he's not a young WR coming into his own he's an 8 year veteran enterring his 9th year that averages about 30 catches 350 yards and 3 TDs per season.

He's a good guy and a coach's pet with his work ethic but I don't think he's proven to be a great WR on the field

You either love him or you hate him. I'm somewhere in between. But for a guy with an alledged ADP of WR #44, I say - why not? For a guy who's likely going to be the default #1 WR for at least the first month...

60 rec 650 yards 5 TDs

Cleveland's WR's last year put up the following #'s:

Wide Receivers+----------------------+----+-----------------------+----------------------+| Name                 |  G |  RSH  YARD   AVG  TD  |  REC  YARD   AVG  TD |+----------------------+----+-----------------------+----------------------+| Antonio Bryant       | 16 |    1     3   3.0   0  |   69  1009  14.6   4 || Josh Cribbs          | 14 |    0     0   0.0   0  |    1     7   7.0   0 || Braylon Edwards      | 10 |    0     0   0.0   0  |   32   512  16.0   3 || Frisman Jackson      | 12 |    0     0   0.0   0  |   24   287  12.0   1 || Dennis Northcutt     | 16 |    2    33  16.5   0  |   42   441  10.5   2 |+----------------------+----+-----------------------+----------------------+This team's offense does not look significantly changed from last year to me. If Braylon Edwards had remained healthy, he was getting stronger as the year went on and could well have ended up with in excess of 900 yards and 6 TD's. Bryant's of course gone. Why is it so outlandish to think that the Browns, who are probably still the worst team in their division and who will be playing from behind a lot, will be passing as much or more than they did last year?

Until Edwards shows he's returned to form, Jurevicious is the de facto WR1 in an offense that threw for 1000 yards to its WR1 last year, something that he's never been in his career which means that his career averages are, if anything, low.

The formula for Joe J IMHO is that he'll get a good number of catches and receptions, but (like last year) that offense will not muster a lot of passing TD's.

My projections are: 65/845/6.

This assumes that Edwards returns to the form he was displaying when he was injured last year by around week 10 or so. If he doesn't, then Jurevicious' season will look like Bryant's season last year, with as many as 7-8 TD's.

He has a very good opportunity to outperform his draft position. Good value.

I see him going for:

Recs - 60

Rec Yds - 760

TDs - 5

I really think that he and Winslow will be Frye's favorite (big) targets this year. Edwards could be slow coming back and producing... however, I look for Northcutt to be somewhat productive this year.
