Over the course of the offseason, we will be evaluating a multitude of players at every fantasy position. One such way we go about that is through the Player Spotlight series. Think of the Spotlights as a permanent record on some of the more intriguing players for the upcoming season. Each Spotlight will be featured in an article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Drew Bennett, WR, Tennessee Titans

Each article will include:

Detailed viewpoint from a Footballguys staff member
Highlighted member commentary from the message board threads
FBG Projections
Consensus Member ProjectionsThe Rules

In order for this thread to provide sustainable value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:

Focus commentary on the player in question, and your expectations for said player
Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"
To be included in the final synopsis and consensus outlook, you MUST provide projections for the playerProjections should include (at a minimum):

For QBs: Passing Yards, Passing TDs, Ints, Rush Yards, Rush TDs
For RBs: Rushes, Rushing Yards, Rush TDs, Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs
For WRs & TEs: Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDsBest of Luck and ENJOY!

Drew has good size and speed and will benefit from learning as the #1 last year. Titan wide receivers have averaged 2450 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns the last four years with four year lows last year. I am predicting a bump back toward the norm this year, though this could change if the Titans are out of the playoff picture and throw Young out there. The #1 WR for the Titans averages about 43% of the WR yards and 33% of the TD's. Drew finished just below these averages last year. This equates to my predictions of:

75 receptions - 1008 yards - 6 TD's.

Put up 738 yards last year in 13 games and a bit of the injury bug limiting his action in others. Staying healthy will be key for him and I think the longer Volek can keep the starting job, the better for Bennett. Additionally, Givens on the other side balances out the WR corps and gives Bennett some breathing room (and visa versa).

70 receptions, 980 yards, 7 TDs

I see Drew starting out strong with Volek as the QB. Volek has always locked onto Bennett and this season will be no different.

What concerns me is if the Titans are not winning we may see Vince Young sooner than expected and if that is the case Bennetts numbers could fall off drastically.

With a fast start and slow finish. 72 catches, 960 yards, 7 TDS.

It appears very likely Volek will be doing most of the QB'ing this year for TENN, and that seems to be a plus for Bennett. My personal feeling is that TENN may really try to run a bit more in 06... so I'm not expecting huge numbers from Bennett or Givens, but Bennett shouuld be solid.

Recs: 65

Yds: 895

TDs: 6

WR Drew Bennett...Last years great white hope going into the draft....followed his 2004 Monster season, with a fizzle in 2005.

When he gets the ball, he does put up the yardage per reception (2001 - 13.7, 2002 - 14.5, 2003 - 15.8, 2004 - 15.6) Last year he dropped to 12.7 though.

With the Addition of WR David Givens, the chance to reconnect with QB Billy Volek, and a RBBC that will keep defenses honest, I think Bennett has the chance for another breakout season like 2004. The wild card in this formula is QB Vince Young. If the Titans are not winning games, it will only be a matter of time before VY takes the field. It will take time to click with a QB change. I personally think the Titans would like to ease VY into the game than just throwing him to the wolves. Volek is more than capable to run the Titan offense, which will be good news for Bennett owners. I think Givens will cut into TD production though. Lots of changes in the Titan offense might take time for everyone to jell as well. Going conservative on Bennett, even if breakout potential is there.

72, 1015 yds, 8 TDs

there is very little difference between Brandon Stokley and Bennet, IMO, i.e., 1 good year and a career of 'promise' and 'potential'

60-600-3

I'd rather have the #3 WR on a team like Cincy, than a supposed #1 like Bennett..

10.0 YPC???? Even in a bad year last year he put up a 12.7 YPC. His career YPC is 14.5. At least give your projections 5 minutes of thought.66/887/5
