DBs - sacks possibilities? (1 Viewer)

Hi Guyz!

I'm playing in a 12 teams league with IDP - where they only score points for sacks (6) or Ints (8).

From this, I wanted to look closely at the DBs that have a chance (from their scheme / playing style / else) to have a few (if not alot) of sacks this year.

I'm leaning that way since predicting Ints from year to year has been cumbersome and a crap shoot at best... I think sacks tend to be more stable...

I quickly came up with the following list (probably 3 sacks or more?)... If you see others, feel free to add - or to rank...

AWilson Ari;

TPolamalu Pit;

RWilliams Dal;

BDawkins Phi;

GWilson NyG;

RBarber Tb;

Others?...

Ed Reed may be worth a shot here too.

G. Wilson is always rushing the QB. He will get a fair amount of sacks. A. Wilson and T. Palumalou are studs. Those are my top 3 DBs.

I am undecided on Ed Reed. He had a disappointing season last year and it had to do with injuries and the new scheme the Ravens implimented on defense. Does anybody know if the Ravens are going to use the same scheme this season? If so, I would be hesitant to put much stock in Reed's production.

While I've seen nothing official, I'd expect them to mix in as many 46 looks as they can this season. Hard to know exactly how this defense will break down given the amount of time their two studs missed last year, but it wasn't looking great for either Lewis or Reed during the first month of last season.

If big plays are the only stats worth points, I'd add Sean Taylor to the list. He may be a mental midget but the guy makes plays. He's also had enough time to master the system.

Madieu Williams is worth a late pick.

Mike Brown is getting up there in age but he's always seems to have a couple of games a year where he goes off.

Darren Sharper is a playmaker.

Look into the Eagles safeties too, although with your scoring Dawkins may be the better option.

How has the thread made it this far w/o mention of Archuleta?? :confused:

He's never had less than 2 sacks per season. The mad masher has 15 sacks over five seasons.

Good Point WD ... He should come up big in the sack department this year. The Skins use , I guess you would say, a version of the 46. I can remember Chicago SS Dave Duerson, back in the mid to late 80's, scoring very well in this type of system.

i totally agree with WDs adam archuleta mention...

when healthy, he can be as good as anybody among DBs in the sack department...

WAS just signed him to biggest contract ever for a safety (before ed reed, & soon roy williams & troy polamalu)... they have sean taylor to play center fielder role, so they can turn him a loose. :)

No idea how that happened - he was the first guy who came to mind.

Lawyer Milloy may be flying under the radar a bit. He's posted good sack totals over his career. Dunta Robinson picked up three as a rookie but only one last year. The potential is there.

I'm seeing that Thomas Davis is still listed as a DB... would you jump on him with this setup (points for only Sacks and Ints) instead of the other guys mentioned in the thread?

(I already got DRobinson on board :thumbup: )

I don't know. I don't see TD having much impact in coverage, that's most of the reason he has been transitioned to linebacker. And it's probably wishful thinking to believe that Davis can equal the 7-8 sacks/year output in his first year as a linebacker that Mark Fields did as a veteran backer.And if this is a MFL league, Davis will be moved to LB before the season starts so it'll become a non-issue anyway.

I was really high on Shawn Springs in this category going into last year given his 6 sacks in 2004, and given Gregg Williams' propensity to essentially zone blitz with CB's every so often. As it turned out, the Washington CB's had 0 sacks last year. :lmao:

Still, both Springs and Rogers are over 6' tall, and are certainly capable of bringing down all but the largest QB's (e.g. Culpepper) on their own. :shrug:
