Return Yards *Discussion* (1 Viewer)

Anyone know of a place that I can find projections for return yards? Our league rewards them the same as receiving yards which makes it a pretty big deal.

After much investigation I'm starting to think that these things don't exist. Maybe we can at least get some discussion going.

Basically, in my league anyone that is getting serious return yds (Hall, Mathis, Sproles) warrants a starting spot and if they pull double duty they have a chance to be the top WR (Hall is top 15).

Does anyone know if Koren will continue returning kick despite his increased role in the MIN passing game?

I haven't been able to find any projections either. On K-Rob -- As of now (which is way early) he isn't slated to return kicks or punts.

STATS shows: T Williamson as KR and M Moore as PR

link: http://snap.stats.com/stats/nflinfo/teamst...no=16&Submit=Go

I don't think you are going to find any creditable projections. Start by looking at last years stats. A lot of teams have open competitions for return jobs during preseason so you will have to pay attention to team reports. There were 16 players that passed the 1000 yard mark in return yards last year. One guy had close to 2000 yards. It is going to have a huge impact on your league.

Regarding Koren Robinson, early word is that the Vikings would prefer not to use him on kickoffs due to his WR1 role. However, if he is their best option, they still intend to use him on KRs. That means it will hinge upon whether someone else can step up in the pre-season on KRs.

For now, I'm guessing it will still be Koren.

The really great news is that probably only half the league even realizes we get pts for return yds and somewhere between 0 and 1 of them are going to recognize that it completely alters the WR corp.

At worst I'll get some great flex guys (we go 2 RB, 2 WR, 3 flex) multiple rounds after they should go.

At best Koren returns kicks and is a top 10 WR that I get in Rd 7. It sounds like this is something where we may get more info later on in the preseason. I imagine Dante will still get that job and is a part of the offense in KC for sure.

Dante Hall is definitely, absolutely, positively, no-doubt-about-it the KR/PR for the Chiefs. Plus Herm Edwards said they want to get him a little more involved on offense.P.S. Check out this thread for returner news since the draft

P.S.S. returner stats from last year

Being fairly new to FFG I'm assuming the Returnerguys link in the above PSS is a weekly feature on the site. If this is true that is so sweet. Thanks Mike!

I am in four league which use the Idividual Kick returner and only the designated KR get the return yardage and TD points.

I agree with you we need more infromation on these guys. IKRs may be the be the next frontier in fantasy football.

But one of the benefit of no sites even paying attension to the KRs it has been become the one position that the person who does his own homework gains the benefit and gets the advantage because they just can't show up at the draft with a website cheetsheet and be just as effective as the guy who studied the information himself then compared his evaluation with the experts before going to the draft.

I say let make a push to add IKRs to Fantasy football

Yes, it's weekly feature. We'll also be adding a weekly that tracks return stats allowed.

Even better! What returners are already solidly entrenched on their teams?

And how would you rank them?

A bad defense and no running game made Swinton a stud for me last year.

On that tip, does a lack of a solid ground game lead to more return yards?

In my league last year, Dante Hall scored less than 5+ FP in a game only 1 time and topped 10+ 7 times. Depending on return yards and the scoring setup, return guys could be more valuable than a guy like an Antonio Bryant or Joe Jurevicius.

The following players could be sleepers listed as return men according to the FBG Charts.

Baltimore Ravens: BJ Sams (KR/PR)

Buffalo Bills: Roscoe Parrish (PR)

Cincinnati Bengals: Antonio Chatman (KR) and Tab Perry (PR)

Cleveland Browns: Dennis Northcutt (PR)

Dallas Cowboys: Patrick Crayton (PR)

Houston Texans: Jerome Mathis (KR/PR)

Minnesota Vikings: Mewelde Moore (KR/PR)

Kansas City Chiefs: Dante Hall (KR/PR)

Miami Dolphins: Wes Welker (KR/PR)

New York Jets: Tim Dwight (PR)

St. Louis Rams: Shaun McDonald (PR)

San Francisco 49ers: Arnaz Battle (KR/PR)

Oakland Raiders: Ron Curry (PR)

San Diego Chargers: Darren Sproles (KR)

For leagues that award return yds to players the same as receiving yards then anyone getting KR and PR duties is probably going to crack the top 50 WR even doing nothing else.

This could open you up to draft a ton at other spots and fill in WR late if your leaguemates don't catch this.

Obviously a guy like Dante Hall or Koren if he returns is huge value (top 10-15).

I play in a league like this and had Dante Hall and Wesley Welker playing at WR for me. They weren't anything special, but to get them for nothing and get WR2 production was pretty nice.

No mention of Reggie Bush in this thread? Any return yards added to his production could make him a monster.

Good call on Reggie Bush, especially if Michael Lewis isn't fully recovered, which is looking like a distinct possibility.Rookie Watch:Chicago's Devin Hester is looking very good so far. GB's Cory Rodgers is not.Check out FBG's weekly Camp Updates during August for lots of news on returners.

yeah, nice list.and i bet all of them are the primary PR and KR on their team like Hall in KC and Welker in MIA...

San Diego

Chargers' Darren Sproles is out for now with a broken leg. Marty Schottenheimer says Eric Parker will handle punts and Michael Turner will handle kickoff returns.

Dallas

"The first punt return he had his high heels on, but after that one he did go north and south pretty good."

- Bill Parcells regarding Skyler Green

When Schottenheimer said Sproles would be out multiple weeks, what he really meant was multiple months. Sproles was placed on IR yesterday.

With Sproles out, running back Michael Turner will return kickoffs and wide receiver Eric Parker will return punts.

Seeing the mention of Parker really jumps out at me, because he is a starter. I am hoping that he can pick up a enough punt return yards a game to add to his receiving output (which I am quite unsure about with rivers at QB). Anyone think that Parker is worth a late pick based on this? He wouldn't regularly be drafted in my league.

In regards to Parker, punt return duties are not all that valuable as compared to kick returns. There's just not that many yards on punt returns.

Went through all 32 teams...here's some nuggets

Michael Turner listed as kr in SD + backup to LT

BJ Sams kr and pr in Balt

Bryant Johnson kr in Arizona...interesting. should also get decent receiving stats

Jerricho Crotcher kr and pr in NYJ

C. Carr kr and pr in Oakland

KEVIN CURTIS #1 KR in STL - there's your guy

Rasheid Davis kr and pr in Chicago (for now)

Obviously

Wes Welker

Dante Hall

Jerome Mathis

I have also joined my first league utilizeing a KR as one of 12 starters. Going to be a new twist for me. I was thrilled to find this thread. I can always count on you sharks. lol

Something for FBG to ponder to stay one step ahead of the competition! We need KR ranks now. lol

Wow, any confirmation on Curtis? That would make him a huge asset.
Wow. My draft with return yards starts in an hour. This would be awesome.I don't think he's going to produce nearly as much at WR as a lot of people do, but still... a good #3 WR + KR yards in my league would be HUGE.So yeah... confirmation? Rams homers?

It's looking more and more like they'll go with J.J. Arrington on KRs

The problem with this is there is no real good reliable source, unless you know somebody who knows somebody. NFL.com, each individual team's website, and different sites, etc. all have listed different things.

Well, I'm still holding out hope for Curtis. Also, if Chambers continues to be nagged by injuries I wonder if Welker gets more playing time. Of course, I also heard that the Dolphins brought Marcus Vick to camp and if he makes the team may become a return guy.

Mike,

Can you tell us if footballguys is going to have one more camp report before the season starts? They have been a great source of information on the KR & PR positions.

Sorry, but last week was the final camp report. For KR/PR news this week, I'd suggest:- News Blogger- Players in the News- Also, I'll try to post tidbits here when my schedule permitsFrom week 2 onward, you can also check the Returnerguys feature for stats and news.

Note that Skylar Green did not make the final 53 man roater, but is on the Dallas practice squad.

ST. LOUIS

Previously released Brad Pyatt... and now waived Marques Hagans to make room for J.R. Reed, whom the Eagles recently cut.

GREEN BAY

waived Cory Rodgers

SAN FRANCISCO

signed Cory Rodgers to practice squad

SEATTLE

Waived Peter Warrick... Jimmy Williams will probably handle punts again.

"We feel very comfortable with Jimmy. He's going to have good games; he's going to have average games. What you try to prevent is him having a bad game. And sometimes a bad game doesn't necessarily mean him. There was a lot of unfairness to Jimmy last year. When you evaluate everything during the offseason, it was more the blockers. Jimmy Williams has done it in the NFL. I coached against him when he was with the 49ers, so I know what he can do."

- special teams coordinator Bob Casullo

PHILADELPHIA

Waived J.R. Reed

Placed Jeremy Bloom on IR

DETROIT

Shaun Bodiford made the final roster... he could share return duties with Eddie Drummond, who will be more involved on offense this year

DENVER

Placed Domenik Hixon on IR

MIAMI

Marcus Vick landed on the practice squad

NEW ORLEANS

Michael Lewis on PUP

With St. Louis droping M. Hagans and picking up JR Reed do you think that Reed would be the main KR person at the start? I had read that the coach wanted a designated "return specialist" and when he got rid of B. Pyatt I picked up M. Hagans. Now that he is also gone is Reed the man? Thanks,!

Does anybody know if Kevin Faulk will be returning punts this season? Return yards in my league can be very valuable and Faulk would be a nice spot player to plug into my lineup if he returns punts/kicks. Ourlads has rookie Willie Andrews as the primary punt and kick returner with Faulk at backup punt returner.

Andrews will probably handle the majority. The Patriots also just signed WR Jonathan Smith, whom Buffalo recently released. He's also a potential KR/PR. Faulk might see an occasional return, although the team also has Troy Brown for backup on punts and Ellis Hobbs on kickoffs.

SAN DIEGO

Cletis Gordon will probably fill Darren Sproles KR/PR role at some point in the year

PHILADELPHIA

If Reno Mahe can't play this week, Lito Sheppard or Brian Westbrook will field punts

CAROLINA

Efrem Hill did not make the final roster. DeAngelo Williams will handle kickoffs. Chris Gamble will probably be the primary punt returner, and Steve Smith the backup.

ARIZONA

signed Micheal Spurlock to practice squad

DALLAS

Jamaica Rector will be the team's primary punt returner with Terence Newman expected to see some action there as well. Veteran defensive back Aaron Glenn will also see spot duty on kick returns, but expect former Irving High star Tyson Thompson to keep his role as the primary kick returner.
