GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The Green Bay Packers released former starting safety Mark Roman on Thursday, one day before the team reports to training camp.
Roman said during a May minicamp that he was unhappy that Packers management didn't consult with him before signing free-agent safety Marquand Manuel away from the Seattle Seahawks in the offseason.
But Roman said at the time that he was willing to compete for the job that used to be his.
"I'm happy to be here, I'm happy to be in Green Bay, I'm happy to be a Packer," Roman said in May. "And all I'm doing now is just playing football. That's all I'm focusing on right now."
Roman signed with the Packers as an unrestricted free agent from Cincinnati before the 2004 season.
