There are more than a few threads that looks at the positives and negatives of the top rookie RBs (Bush / Williams / Maroney / White / Addai)... and a few that looks at the second tier - but none (it seems) that ranks Jerious Norwood / Brian Calhoun / Maurice Drew altogether - 3 RBs that are constantly picked at the end of the first or at the top of the second round in rookie draft...

I'd love to get your thoughts others on who they would pick [DYNASTY] wise - who has the better way of making it big in the NFL...

If you prefer another back (Washington / Harrison / Daniels / Humes / Lundy) - just explain why...

Let me rank them for the criteria I consider important in a complete RB (compared to one another)... so we can discuss who you would want on your team and why...

I have ranked them from best to worst for every category - in my opinion...

Measurables: height - weight - vertical - etc.

Calhoun is undersized but has good muscle development;

Norwood has a skinny lower body, nothing to grow on;

Drew is obviously undersized though he has good strength and muscle development;

Speed: pure speed - 40 time - breakaway abilities

Norwood has above average explosion and straight away speed;

Drew is a burner, constantly running under the 4.40;

Calhoun has valid speed to run away from defenders when he has space;

Acceleration: burst through the hole - start/stop speed

Drew has a quick acceleration and a sudden burst. He does not hesitate to attack the hole;

Calhoun is flexible enough to generate explosive acceleration;

Norwood has the burst to take it the distance if he reaches the second level;

Quickness: cutting ability - changing motion at top speed

Calhoun has excellent quickness when changing directions;

Drew has the quickness to bounce outside and cut swiftly;

Norwood, with his lean body, has tremendous straight away quickness;

Vision: seeing the play develop - recognition of the defense - where to run

Norwood has good vision to quickly locate cutback lanes;

Drew has good vision where he sees the play develops and attacks the hole accordingly;

Calhoun has god vision to see the threats to his runs;

Balance: toughness to bring down - keeping the legs going - body control

Calhoun has outstanding balcance and agility making you miss with great moves;

Drew good adjust quickly and redirect, he has great balance;

Norwood lacks the strength to make tacklers miss;

Elusiveness: making defenders miss - shiftiness - spinning moves - open field running

Drew is very elusive, he can spin and keeps his balance;

Calhoun has very good elusiveness and is best at trying to avoid tacklers;

Norwood is easily tripped when running in small places;

Patience: letting the block develop for him - timing

Norwood shows good patience waiting for his blocks to develop;

Drew does good job of locating his downfield blockers and lets them lock in;

Calhoun is good at letting his blockers help him out;

Ball Security: fumbling - coaching confidence at crucial moments

Calhoun has no issues at securing the ball;

Norwood has been a durable player that does a good job of protecting the ball;

Drew has fumbling issues because he carries the ball loose at times;

Receiving / Hands: catching the football - securing it - adjusment to poorly thrown balls

Calhoun has natural hands to reach and pluck the ball away from his body;

Drew showed imporvement but needs better tecnique to catch balls away from his body;

Norwood lacks hand technique as he prefers to absorb the ball with his body;

Receiving / Routes: right place at the right time - security valve - defense recognitions

Calhoun is a precise route runner that can line out outside;

Drew runs good underneath routes but must bet better in spotting the soft spot in defense;

Norwood is a marginal route runner, nearly a non-factor in the passing game;

Blocking / Strength: ability to take on DLs and LBs alone - sustaining the block

Norwood lacks the true strength and the courage to lock on to blitzers;

Calhoun was not called upon to block much and lacks technique and bulk;

Drew size negates all the chances he has to take on blizters and sustain the block;

Blocking / Blitz: play recognition - knowing his assignment

Norwood has good cut blocking technique but he gets knock too often out of place;

Calhoun uses his tremendous quickness to get back into plays when blocking;

Drew size, even though he recognizes the play very well, limits his blocking abilities;

Opportunities: playing time - team competition - long term possibilities

Norwood is wating for Dunn to let go - only Duckett will cut into the red zone looks;

Drew has only Fragile Fred ahead of him - Greg Jones should see alot of the short yardage / red zone touches;

Calhoun seems to be locked behind Kevin Jones but could see time if Jones falthers again;

Intangibles: coachability - surroundings - football knowledge - learning the playbook

Norwood has great work ethics and willingness to do whateever he needs to win;

Calhoun is a durable back that transfered to get more playing time;

Drew had issues recently with the law but other than that he seems very aware in interviews;

There you have it - I can't really decide which one has the better chance of having a good NFL career... that's why I'm looking for everyone's opinion...

Thoughts?...

From the limited amount I've seen of these 3, Calhoun is a nose ahead of the other two. His combine 40 wasn't special, but once his muscle pull healed and he ran at his pro day, he flat out smoked it.

Also Drew has more than Fragile Fred to mess with. He's got Jones and Toefield at the very least, and I haven't heard any rumblings that he has unseated either. And in addition to Dunn and Duckett, Norwood has Griffith to compete with as well. Meanwhile, Calhoun has already climbed to the #2 spot, and is waiting in the wings for KJ to falter, as the initial post notes.

Man I just can't stop thinking about Calhoun's performance at the Auburn game. He was Bush-esque (the comparison has been made before, even by Calhoun himself). Long term, I really see him surprising people and becoming a top 15 back.

As it stands right now... with the 18 votes... if we say that a 1st place vote is worth 5pts, 2nd is worth 3pts, 3rd is worth 1pt...

We get the following results...

Norwood: 72 = 10 / 7 / 1

Drew: 50 = 4 / 8 / 6

Calhoun: 40 = 4 / 3 / 11
