Hey everyone -- wanted to take a minute to announce a new Footballguys contest to our message board community. We're going through the process of putting our Podcast, "The Audible", onto iTunes to help build our audience. One thing that we need in order to do this, though, is a snappy logo graphic that will be displayed on our page in the iTunes store and alongside "The Audible" when it appears in people's search results in iTunes. The only problem is that we're Football Guys, not Graphics Guys. That's where you come in.

I know we have a number of professional graphic artists among our regular members here and a number of other folks who are very handy with PhotoShop. So we're asking y'all to help us out by creating a new logo for "The Audible". In return, we're offering $100 cash and a lifetime subscription to Footballguys.com to the person who creates the logo we wind up choosing.

Here are the qualities we need the winning entry to have:

Square image -- 340px x 340px in size

Created at 300 dpi

JPG format (no GIFs)

Should incorporate our Blackeyed Joe and have a clear audio or podcast tie-in

Needs to look sharp at reduced sizes as small as 157px x 157px

Should have a border and should stand out on a white background

Please email all entries to overton@footballguys.com in JPG format -- he will send you back an email ASAP to confirm that he has received your entry.

The deadline to enter the contest is 8/9/06 All entries must be received by 11:59:59 PM Pacific Time on that date. Judging will commence the next day. The winner will be selected by the Footballguys.com staff.and announced here on 8/12/06

Hey, Joe - I'm interested in throwing my hat in the ring here...am I just missing the black eyed joe graphic in your first post or did you forget to link them in? :loco:

:rolleyes: I'm quite aware...but it also a) is not 300dpi, and b) it has his name over part of it... I would imagine his avatar is not the graphic that he was referring to...
 
I'll offer my services if needed. During my year off of college I worked as a full-time graphics designer.

Agreeing with above poster, I think the current one looks fine, or at least has the correct idea.

Great idea... and your logo looks ok now, but you are right, could use some spit and polish...

But the board is also correct, you left the link for your current logo, but not for some clean, blackeye joe only logos for us to use... thanks,

Honestly, looks like the work from a guy who flunked 2D design....... You clearly spent no more that 5 minutes of thought on the concept. Your layout is not even at a novice artist level.What can I say, marketing critiques are tough and..... Hey, you asked.

Would love to give it a try, if you have the Blackeyed Joe in a lossless format as well (like BMP) at a large size at 300dpi, that'd be a huge help too.

Damn! I'm just a second grade teacher who just decided to put something together at 2:00 a.m. last night!Gotta work on a better one now.

 
Let me offer a couple of tips...

1) "FBG" means nothing to the outside world.

2) If I'm looking for a podcast, does the word "podcast" really provide much benefit?

 
So far I like cardaso2 but fill in the white space... depending how that white space is used would determine a winning vote.

My other favorite so far is by squirrels. Nice and bright with clear wording.

CoryNJ has a good one going too.

Lots of decent ones. I actually like braven112's image quality. I wonder what it would look like with that black converted to green/white, i.e. a football field, but keeping that sheen.

FBG yellow would be better than white.

I like it. I think when it is downsized, it will look sharp. I am not sure what BassNBrew means for the yellow, maybe around Joe? I think maybe he is talking about the "The Audible" text. I think he may be correct that it might look better with the FBG's normal font (see current podcast gif).The only thing I would be concerned about is that Joe in the middle might look too small when it the size of the current graphic. Right now it looks like it is the same size as the current one, which means it will be smaller when downsized.

Anyway, you at least have me as a fan. :D

I saw your submission (which is pretty cool, BTW) but I've only been posting the submissions in the gallery that were sent to me by email. I figure this thread makes a great testing ground where folks can get feedback and tweak their designs, then they can send them over in an email to enter them officially. It's partially a formality to send it to me by email, but it also helps me know that the submitter feels the design is complete and ready to post. Just shoot me a quick email and I will make it official. :thumbup:
 
No graphic talent, but lots of experience making the decisions. :)

The ones with color added work much better imo. They pop and communucate higher quality and professionalism ( of the product, not the designer!) The ones with just yellow/white/grey are less appealing and almost "old fashioned" -- vs the cutting edge look you want. The greyscale , in particular, I think should be avoided.

This is just for online, correct? So there is not even added cost for additional color?

eta: I agree with the comments that "podcast" is expendable and "FBG" is not meaningful -- unless you have a goal to create a recognized acronym.. which I expect you probably do not.

I like it. I don't know why, but I like a football field as a background instead of the blue. I think the football field makes it instantly recognizable when you are looking at a page of icons. You could fade it the same way though. Also, I agree with the post above that "FBG" isn't necessary, maybe a picture of an iPod on the laces, instead of the FBG would work?

One more comment - not sure there should be quotes around The Audible. Thoughts?

Edit to add yet one more... For branding purposes, Footballguys.com should be in the "official" font/yellow used on the site.

No problem at all. I think my favorites so far are yours and braven112's. I like the fancier, more picture like ones.I don't know why I am hung up on the football field, but I just think it is pretty much a universal symbol that any football fan would spot from a mile away. I guess I just picture a sea of icons and that as a FF guy, I would pick that football field out immediately and check it out to see what it was.

Yep. This is a very good point, and I'll definitely experiment with it on my next attempt. I think it'll add a little depth to the image also. Thanks again. :thumbup:
