Sirius said goodbye to Sharpe (1 Viewer)

I called in to Sirius NFL radio to ask when Shannon Sharpe was coming back, and was told he won't be coming back because his contract wasn't renewed. That's too bad, I enjoyed listening to Shannon's take on things, and his tell like it is style when commenting on players. I'm assuming Rice is his replacement, but I can't say for sure...

I didn't have much against Sharpe other than the fact that I couldn't understand him most of the time... "Blu He threw the bla blall to the bla black out of the back flield..."

On a related note, I think Rice has slowly gotten better, but man, he still seems to just name players off teams, and say how they will step up...

That and the constant "Umm's" and "You know's". I really hope he gets better, because once in a while its really great to hear his insider's opinion, but most of the time it's kind of hard to listen to.

Also, does anyone like Shein? Man, I can't stand that moron...

Rice is terrible. Just awful. I can't even listen to him. He gets names wrong, he stammers and "ums" way too much. He doesn't offer anything substantial to the conversation. It is extremely frustrating to have him on the air.

I would take 100 Sheins yammering over one Rice. Stick to the ballroom dancing, my friend.

At first I had a hard time listening to Sharpe, but once I got past his mush-mouth, I liked what he had to say. Coupled with the loss of Riggins, Sirius has taken a step backwards in the last few months.

I agree on rice. He's brutal when it comes to names, and he doesn't offer any good insight at all. He also seems to have great praise for every player, no matter how terrible they are. Shannon wasn't very articulate, but at least he was a funny guy, and you knew you were getting the truth about players/coaches. Even if they were his friends.

Schein is the most annoying sports "personality" I can remember. His cliches get old ("big happy red bow"). His "script" is so predictable - you can almost predict what he is gonna say or ask next. I love the NFL and have Sirius and have a long drive home at rush hour. I look foward to the 2:00 minute drill.

He drove me up the wall when I first started listening to Sirius NFL. He doesn't drive me as crazy now, but he still gets on my nerves. What really gets me is how he is he is always getting back to the "ultra busy phones", and then both before going to break and coming back from break, he summarizes who is either coming up or who just was on the show, "were going to talk to the Bengal’s, were going to talk to the Steelers, were going to talk to the Bills", etc... for like 40 seconds he just summarizes who they are going to talk to!

I've been thinking about subscribing to Sirius for some time now. Is the NFL stuff really any good?

Does anyone know why Sirius subscribers can't listed to the NFL Channel (124) on the internet? They have a number of "Talk" channels available but the NFL does not seem to be one of them.

Did Riggins leave the NFL network? I thought that he just didn't work during the offseason and that he'd be back in September.
God, I hope he comes back. The only reference I heard on the air about Riggins was that he left to "pursue other opportunities". A great loss to the program, IMHO. Jerry Rice is just not cut out for radio. On radio you have to be articulate most of all. Hey, its a great coup for Sirius from a name-recognition standpoint, but what good is that if the guy can't get a point across?

Those things drive me nuts, as well. In addition, he always talks about what they've talked about... "We've been talking a lot of Chiefs today, a lot about the Ravens, a lot about the Jags..."Also, on the cliche subject... "Bring it!"The thing that really gets me, though, is when someone disagrees with him he gets all offended, and almost insulting to them. The guy thinks he knows all, or something.I too have the hour ride home when that show is on, and I too look forward to the 2 minute drill. That and I look forward to the days Solomon (sp?) is on. I really wish Zig, and Solly were the regulars in that time slot...

I think Danny Boy has Riggo locked up for Redskins Radio here in DC.

It has something to do with licensing costs, I think.

Quick-hit replies to all of you.

- Riggo left Sirius to work on Washington radio.

- Schein drove me nuts at first with the way he speaks. I could not

get used to his nasal tone. But when I listened to WHAT he was saying

instead of HOW he delivered it, I became a convert. The man has a

passion and knowledge for the game which is unmatched.

- Sharpe is no big loss. "Look here, Papa....."

- Rice is awful. He answers every question by saying "WIFOUT a doubt." :wall:

- You can stream Sirius on your PC if you are a member. They also have a free preview.

- Schein's "Ultra-busy phones" was a joke at first when they were first growing.

I could get through anytime. But since Howard Stern came to Sirius, the membership

has grown greatly. Now it's really hard to get through to any of the NFL Radio shows.

- The two best programs on 124 are "Moving The Chains" with Tim Ryan & Pat Kirwin,

and the Fantasy Football show with our own Adam Caplan & John Hansen on Friday nights.

I don't think you can stream the NFL channel. I've tried before it the only option they had was a canned preview. Unless that's changed?

When I 1st started to listen to Schein about a year ago he told every caller that he or she was great and he refused to say a bad thing about ANY player or coach in the NFL. Now that he has grown a set and rips into the idiot callers and has begun to throw some players and coaches under the bus he's much much better.

I tolerate Schein most of the time but when he teams with Jerry Rice it's bad...real bad. I really enjoy Randy Cross and Moose Johnston as they are informed, articulate, and it helps they are also former players.

You cannot listen to Sirius NFL radio over the internet because some of the content is streamed directly from NFL network. Its a licensing issue. Ive contact sirius about it several times.

I haven't heard Rice too much so I have no comment.

Sharpe is not a huge loss imo. I found him difficult to understand and it just didn't seem like he got into the show like other hosts.

I don't mind adam schein, but maybe it was because his show was with john riggins. Personally, "I gotta tell ya", I liked the way schein spoke. I felt that he enjoyed doing the show and you could almost see him in your mind getting animated.

Without a doubt, the best show is "Moving The Chains" with Tim Ryan & Pat Kirwin like Raidernation said (hate to agree with "da raiders". Raidernation Im sure knows how thats supposed to sound when T-Rock says it. T-Rock and PK bring a very interesting combination to the table in their program. PK was a front office man and knows the business side of things and what teams are thinking. He has alot of first hand knowledge of what goes through the GMs mind when making cuts or drafting players. T-Rock comes from the players side of things and can speak first hand about contract hold-outs, injuries, and situations you face as a player. I really hope sirius doesn't do anything stupid like not renew these guys contracts.

I guess its just me, but Bob Popa really annoys me. When I listen to him I can almost see him making that "why I am sitting here doing this show" face. The only thing he brings to the table imo is his inside knowledge of the NYG.

Lastly, the Fantasy Football show with Adam Kaplan and John Hansen is pretty good. I enjoy it but haven't grown the set to call yet. I will say one thing, I wish they would stop taking the "I have x, y, and z. Who do I start?" calls and take calls from guys that ask questions like "Break down Aaaron Brooks as a Raider for me" or "Is x going to start this sunday?". Also, they do a replay of the show on Sunday, I don't know the exact times but I know its repeated on Sunday.

Rice is the worst analyst that I've heard. He basically sets up every guest for a mutual gloss session and this coupled with his horrible speech makes this a total train wreck.

Sirius' loss is DC's gain. I LOVE having Riggo's show on during my evening drive every night! I never get tired of his war stories from the old days. And even though he's on Snyder's new stations, he doesn't appear to be afraid to offend the powers-that-be... but I guess Danny had to know that going in!

IMO, that channel is almost un-listenable during the morning drive with Bob Papa. Guy is a brutal listen, absolutely no inflection in his voice.

Nothin worse than Papa and Banks in the morning

What time does the fantasy show come on? I've never had occasion to listen to it. If it's good though, I'd enjoy checking it out. When I first got Sirius last year I really liked the Afternoon Blitz. I could listen to it while I was working and feel very up-to-date and informed. I never put a lot of thought into the personalities involved, and I tried never to miss a show. Then Riggo left...and I gradually stopped tuning in. The guy was the heart and soul of the program and I miss him muchly.

8pm every Friday, and it gets replayed on Saturdays. It's a must-listen for the fantasy fan.If Adam reads this, I agree that the WSIS questions tend to dominate the show. I findthe commentary of the hosts to be much more interesting. Perhaps limit the WSIScalls to two segments? If people get in, they get in. If not, tough luck...

Agree. Riggo and Schein had pretty good chemistry. I dont like the rotating hosts

You guys liked Riggins? Really? He was a wishy-washy marble mouth.

Here was a typical back-and-forth between he and Schein.

RIGGINS: "I really think the 49ers could surprise some people this year."

SCHEIN: "REALLY, John??? I think they are still the worst team in the league."

RIGGINS: "Yeah.... I guess you're right."
