WCOFF question (1 Viewer)

I have a question regarding the World Championship of Fantasy Football (WCOFF), as was promoted several times in the footballguys.com daily emails. Their site is http://www.wcoff.com/

First of all, sorry if this is in the wrong forum. Also, for anyone who does not know, this is bascially supposed to be fantasy football's equivalent of the world series of poker.

However, from looking at their site, it looks like they made a HUGE mistake. They scheduled their draft for Saturday 9, 2006. Which is AFTER the NFL Regular season has already begun!!!! (Miami plays Pittsburgh the night before!!!)....

How can you have a draft of this much importance after the regular season has already begun??? If I am missing something or this has already been discussed, then please point me in the right direction. TY.

the points for the Thursday game count. it adds a little wrinkle to the draft.

it goes back to the first year when they moved the opening game to Thursday after they already had everything set for the draft in Vegas. It couldn't be moved. Everyone liked it anyway and wanted to keep the draft the day before the opening Sunday.

"search" would be the right "direction".multiple threads in the fguys free for all....
Thanks for the reply Joffer... I now agree that that would indeed add an interesting twist. As to the other poster in this thread.... I tried the search function and it brought back several unrelated posts.

If true this is one of the most ridiculous and assinine things I have ever heard.

700+ owners per year, going on 5 years, would disagree.

Whats the big deal? So a game has been played?

If one game alters your draft plan more than a player or two, you're one gullible cat.

When was the last time you saw 700 fantasy players agree on anything?Actually, its a tough trade-off... Some might prefer drafting later (albeit after one game) rather than one week earlier because of late breaking information (injuries, position battles, etc.).

Having gone through 4 previous WCOFF drafts, and I'm sure Nag and Team Legacy would agree, the one game changes very, very little. Maybe one or two players are bumped up a round or so - that's it.But I will add that I drafted Kerry Collins last year when I normally would not have because 1) he was value at the spot I took him; and 2) he had a guaranteed almost 30 points banked for that week's games. I turned to the team I was facing that week right after the pick and said "You're in a 30 point hole". But that team could have taken him too.

BUT year after year we can count on somebody to complain about something.............

If you don't like it = DONT' PLAY - we promise not to miss you.

And if it is such a BFD to you there is another national competition the weekend before, so go play there.

if i remember the polls correctly, keeping the draft where it is now was overwhelmingly popular. it doesn't affect the draft that much, and you can't beat being in Vegas for the opening weekend of NFL football. sad i'm going to miss it this year :(

The main reason I never entered the WCOFF was the payout system. If you win the league you make money, but coming in 2nd only breaks you even and 3rd is $500.

Even if you win your league or get in as a wild card, then you have to get very lucky to get a prize in the post-season (15 out of 87 teams).

Not sure when you last looked cstu, but they have increased the League payouts as well as several of the others, so for an entry of roughly $1650, the league payouts are:1st Place = $6000LCG loser = $18003rd place = $500Yes the Playoff odds are against you, but the 1st place payout of $200,000 makes it worth chasing the brass ring

As nice as the shot at $200k is, I'd like to see more money paid out in the league. Out of the $18k paid in by the league, only $8300 is paid out with the rest going to to the playoff winners. A payout of $6000, $3000 and $1500 would make it a lot more enticing. I know they want to have a big payout for the champion since it makes the WCOFF look more impressive, but it isn't good for most of the people who enter. Around 150 out of 840 get paid more than $500. Of that 150, only about 80 will end up making more than they paid in ($1800 for 2nd place is basically breaking even).
