Dansby update

It's becoming increasingly doubtful that outside linebacker Karlos Dansby will be ready for the regular season. He hasn't practiced yet this training camp because of a sore left toe that he said has caused problems in leg muscles.

Dansby was walking out of the team's facility Monday with a rolling bag that contained a treatment device that he said is helping.

"It's a serious injury," he said. "They say (it could be) career-ending injury."

Dansby said the problem is in the bone of his big toe. "It's moving up under my other toe, and it's causing my muscles in my left leg to shut down. I'm having a real tough time right now. It's been like this for a couple of years now, and my body just can't take it anymore."

Dansby said he feels much better now than he did a few weeks ago and is confident he'll eventually be fine. He's not sure when he'll make is preseason practice debut.

I don't have the first clue what this means.I'm no anatomist (although I play one on the weekends sometimes) but I'm not sure how an injury to the first toe (or ligament capsule or midfoot) causes weakness in the lower leg.

ATC1? Any other trainers or unfortunate souls with firsthand experience?

Smells fishy to me. From "I can't take it anymore" to "I'll be fine"? Telling Denny Green to get off his jock while he sees Orlando Huff beat up the boxscore this weekend?

I think Green stopped just short of calling him a female cat a couple of weeks back. Now, it looks like Dansby has some freak type injury or condition that I will leave to those with medical backgrounds to explain.

I have heard of medical conditions that can do something like this, but not to the toe. I will check it out, but has there ever been a diagnosis given to the media? If not it just makes me feel more sceptical on how serious it maybe.

Nope, not that I can find. Turf toe sucks, but I'm not aware of anything (overcompensation in another area or around that capsule) that would cause a nerve impingement and weakness. Dansby was doubtful a couple of times with a unspecified toe injury last season and played. -- thanks for the help.

Karlos Dansby (thumb, toe) was inactive for Saturday's preseason game at New England.

(Updated 08/20/2006).

Any reports of what's wrong with his thumb. Any of the same symptoms?

Think he had a ligament injury in minicamp that healed quickly. Pretty sure it's a non-issue.

From KFFL last week

Tue, 15 Aug 2006 08:29:24 -0700

Darren Urban, of the East Valley Tribune, reports Arizona Cardinals LB Karlos Dansby (toe) is not expected to require surgery on his injured left big toe.

I did research and he is showing signs and symptoms of bunions, but no where does it have anything about muscles not functioning correctly.

There is either a condition that we don't know about that can be threatening to his career, or he has a Bunion that is causing pain and walking gait problems from compensation. It maybe just a coaches excuse to not practice and play in the preseason.

Anyone else catch Denny Green on NFL Live last night? He was vague, but it wan't encouraging. He made it sounbd like they didn't know what the problem was, but he definitely fears for Dansby's career.

Yeah, I saw it and I'm lost. Dansby says he is getting better and should be ready, but D. Green did not sound to promising. I'm staying away.

LB Dansby And OL Ross Probable For Seahawks

Associated Press - [Full Article]

Arizona Cardinals linebacker Karlos Dansby and offensive lineman Oliver Ross are both listed as probable for this week and should play Sunday in Seattle. Dansby missed all of training camp. He underwent thumb surgery in the offseason, then was slowed by a toe injury during rehabilitation. Ross had missed five weeks while recovering from knee surgery. "They got a lot of work in today," coach Dennis Green said.

Sounds like some wunnerful communication in the desert. And, no major surprise, Dansby likely to play WLB. Should that happen, it's probably Hayes and Dansby in nickel situations.
Green is pleased with the solid play of transplanted defensive

end Calvin Pace at the strong-side linebacker and has mentioned the

possibility of moving Dansby to the weak-side spot. Dansby said no

one had talked to him about that.

I hope you are correct. I am having to choose between T. Howard and Hayes. I'll probably roll the dice with Hayes and hope he plays in the nickel.

Benching a MLB against the Seahawks at home with Walter Jones off the injury report is pretty gutsy.

If Danby plays, what does that do for Calvin Pace? Is Pace a starter at SLB now?
(Rotoworld) Cardinals OLB Karlos Dansby (probable, toe) practiced Wednesday for the first time this season.Impact: It remains to be seen if Dansby will play on Sunday, but he is listed as probable on the injury report. Converted DE Calvin Pace has excelled on the strong side in Dansby's absence, so he may play on the weak side or as a reserve.

LB Dansby Returns But May Not Have A Position

Len Pasquarelli, ESPN.com - [Full Article]

Cardinals LB Karlos Dansby returned to practice this week, but he may have lost his starting role because the team has played well without him. LB Calvin Pace has played well in Dansby's absense and so has the unit as a whole. Dansby, is listed as "probable" on the Arizona injury report. "We haven't decided what role he will play," coach Dennis Green told the local media early this week.

Interesing article. Youll note they never mention Hayes or MLB as a possible home."In the absence of Dansby, former defensive end Calvin Pace, who Cardinals officials feared might turn out to be a first-round bust, switched to strongside linebacker and has played well. It will be difficult, now that the Arizona coaches have defined a role for Pace, who has embraced the switch, to move him back to end or bump him from the lineup. If the Cardinals decide to move Dansby to weakside linebacker, he will have to battle incumbent Orlando Huff for the starting job there. The most likely scenario is that Dansby will return as a reserve and will have to earn more playing time."
