Rams WR Holt to have MRI on Monday (1 Viewer)

Uh oh...this doesn't sound good. I'm guessing he has cracked ribs.

Waiting a week after the injury is not a good sign.

St Lous Paper web site saying injury was first thought to be bruised ribs, but is a bruised sternum from falling on the ball and having the wind knocked out of him. Should be fine with no limitations......
I know that the WR and QB positions are different but didn't Steve McNair sit out some games with a bruised sternum at some point in his career? Wouldn't this be a concern for a guy who's stretching out to catch the ball and then possibly landing on the ball again? I have Holt as WR #1 on my board because he has the least amount of questions. This may certainly change things.
From a thread right after he got injured. Indeed I took him as my #1 WR this week at 2.4.

Linehan after the game....

“If we were healthy, we would have had them in there,” Linehan said. “Torry bruised his sternum and worked all week to get back. He probably could have played with it in a regular season game. It’s not worth it at this point to have him in there and risk further injury being 15 days out from our opener; I didn’t want to have a setback. I didn’t want to risk further injury with those guys and I would do it 100 times out of 100.”

might be precautionary

I've seen this happen a few times with WRs (i.e. they don't feel too much pain, but the pain lingers a while, then they decide to do an MRI and its cracked ribs), and it usually ends up being cracked ribs. This most recently happened with Milt Stegall - the star WR for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

If it is cracked ribs, my guess is he'll be out another 3-6 weeks.

KANSAS CITY - While receiver Torry Holt’s absence from Saturday night’s game against Kansas City came as little surprise, the sight of Isaac Bruce in street clothes might have come as a little bit more of a shocker.

Holt suffered a bruised sternum last week against the Texans and was held out of practice all week. In other words, there was little chance that he would play against the Chiefs.

But Bruce, who routinely is given opportunities to stay fresh during practice, participated in a good portion of the workouts this week. Saturday night, though, coach Scott Linehan revealed that Bruce has been dealing with a hamstring injury that has plagued him all week.

“His hamstring is probably about 80 percent,” Linehan said. “He did hurt it on Tuesday. He practiced about three-quarters speed most of the week. He says it doesn’t feel very good. He went out. We worked him out tonight and he felt like it was too tight and I didn’t want to risk any further injury.”

The Rams took a similar approach with Holt, who also did some running before the game but it was ultimately decided to err on the side of caution.

Aside from Holt and Bruce, fullback Madison Hedgecock (ankle) and guard Claude Terrell (wrist) also did not participate because of injury. Terrell didn’t make the trip to Kansas City while Hedgecock dressed, but did not play.

During the game, the Rams came out relatively injury free. Receiver Kevin Curtis suffered a mild concussion after taking a hit on an interception thrown by Bulger in the first half.

Defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy suffered a sprained left ankle. Linehan said Kennedy will likely have an MRI this week to determine how severe the sprain is, but it seemed fairly mild on the surface.

Maybe a bruised sternum

Similiar to what McNair had a couple of years ago - similiar to what McNabb had last year

Could cost him when he needs to stretch out and reach for the ball

not a doctor, or a holiday inn express occupant, but that would show up on an x-ray, which was negative last week.
Well, the same thing just happened to our star WR, Milt Stegall (Winnipeg Blue Bombers). He took a huge hit in a game up the middle from two DBs. Got X-rays, and they came back negative. He didn't feel too much pain and played the rest of the game. A week later he stillhad a bit of pain - got an MRI and it indicated that he indeed had cracked ribs. I guess an MRI shows more than x-rays. He's been out 4 weeks, but *should* be back next week (the 5th week).

i'd be interested in hearing how an MRI reveals a crack in a bone that an x-ray doesn't

I drafted Portis in the 1st, Holt in the 2nd, who else can I lose this preseason.

I even drafted Betts as a back up and K.Curtis later but this is getting silly already.

I hope Holt will be fine in 15 days...my thinking is netiehr Bruce or Holt touch the field the rest of the preseason...Linehan doesn't need to see anymore of these 2.

So does this give Curtis and Bruce a bump? I might just pick one of these up until more information is released.
You're in a league that has Bruce and Curtis on Waivers??
These always come up every year and each league is diffrent and they don't all follow a cookie cutter pattern. It's a 10 team league and you have to take 2 D, 2 K, 2 QB and can only have 8 RB/WR's. You can start any combination of 5 RB/WR. Needless to say most slots are filled by RB's and we have some value to pickup on WR. For example I drafted 9 and ended up with Moss, Driver, Stallworth and Coles. After this I might drop Coles or Stallworth for Curtis or Bruce.

One of my drafts is tomorrow night... care to list your rosters?(I thought your RB/WR rankings were the most valuable threads you participated in - this might not be the case after all ;) )

Those wacky Canadiens! Always a step ahead.

:hey: Me too I am in a league where these two are availible. I don't really have issues at the WR position and I can't see either one starting over my current 4.

Rams | Bruce a late scratch from Saturday's game

Published Sun Aug 27 11:39:00 p.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports St. Louis Rams WR Isaac Bruce (hamstring) had a tight hamstring during pregame warmups Saturday, Aug. 26, and was held out of the preseason game.

(Opening Statement) “Kevin Curtis came out okay. He had a slight concussion in the first half and everything checked out fine after the game. He actually came back in and caught that touchdown that got called back. Jimmy Kennedy got an MRI on his ankle. We don’t have the results yet. He looked okay today and moved around better than we thought. He actually went back in, as you probably saw, and played a little bit. He’s pretty doubtful to be available for this week’s game, but I don’t think it looks too bad. I think we might have dodged a bullet there. We’re going have Torry (Holt) have a precautionary MRI on that sternum just for piece of mind more than anything. It’s fairly sore, but there’s no reason other than to make sure there’s nothing else in there with him. Isaac (Bruce) has a sore hamstring and he’ll be day-to-day. I’ll be surprised if we do something with him tomorrow, maybe a little bit more on Tuesday. Madison (Hedgecock) worked out yesterday in pregame. He’s improving; straight line running only. I’m not sure he’s ready to do much radical cutting on that. Those high ankle sprains they get into that joint and the cutting is the issue, so we’ll see what he can do this week. Leonard (Little) came out okay. Actually, better than we had even hoped coming out of that game, as far as the quadriceps. (With) Claude Terrell we are looking into getting that wrist surgery that was recommended by all the doctors that were involved with looking at the wrist. It is somewhat an experimental procedure, but hopefully it will be something that alleviates the problem. So, if he goes ahead and does that he’d obviously be done for the year, but we’re going to look into that here in the next couple of days.”

It is a precautionary MRI, but doesn't that mean there is more pain than there should be or something? If everything was normal for this type of injury I would assume they wouldn't wait a week to give him a precautionary MRI. They seem to be downplaying it, but it seems odd to me.

Could be worse, you could be the Vikes... :wall:

obviously you've never heard the story of Milt Stegall

I drafted Stegall at 2.44 (we have large Canadien leagues!) and then used my #1 waiver claim on Doug Flutie when I heard a rumor he was coming back and then he didn't. I don't even want to talk about the Ricky Williams ordeal...

My season is toast :wall:

this board is getting ridiculous; the amount of overreacting that goes on around here is mind blowing.
I must have missed where anyone here is saying Holt is out for the season. Holt owners crossing their fingers or asking about his backups "just in case" hardly equates to them trading him for Lee Evans. Any time any of your studs goes in for some type of injury examination, you hold your breath and think about a few "what ifs". But yeah, I guess you can pretend you are the only one who thinks he'll be fine if ya want.

As a Holt owner in 2 leagues, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. MRI....sounds bad. Precautionary MRI....still sounds bad. Hopefully, it's just a bruise and no real damage....

I can feel your pain Portis 1.03; Holt 2.10 and top ya with a Greg Jones ACL  ... I got him in the 7th round as insurance for Fragile Freddie .... YIKES!

Yeah, the only thing I am trying to figure out is how far from my next pick can I be and still pick up Holt the next rd. due to overreacting!
