RB M. Bell May Not Be The Starter?

AP, ESPN.com - [Full Article]

HC Mike Shanahan said Tuesday that the running back situation could still be up in the air. "We've got some fierce competition," Shanahan said. "I'm not going to go through the playing time or the depth chart. "We'll all find out when we open the season against the Rams who that starting running back will be."

I posted this on the Cobbs thread, but Shanny was on the radio here in Colorado, and said that all three RBs would play the next game, while all other starters will rest.

Typical Shanny, it's just too painful to figure out his Rb mess every year!! I tried to stay away but was able to draft Mike bell in the 7th so I grabbed him and he will be my 4th back.

looks like Mike Bell just finished his 15 minutes of fame. kinda reminds me of how everyone was high on ron dayne for that one week.

And this is why Skeletor incurs the wrath of fantasy footballers on a consistent basis. I learned my lesson last year when I drafted Mike Anderson and Tatum Bell and couldn't get the right one in my lineup on a weekly basis. It got to a point where it was almost a guarantee that whoever I put in my starting lineup the guy on my bench would have a great week. I finally had my fill and dealt them both. Tatum Bell for Portis (keeper league mind you) and I don't remember what I got for Anderson (think it was a deal involving DJax coming back my way). In any case, I will not touch another Denver RB so long as Shenanigans is the head coach and I suggest you do the same. Just not worth the headaches.

This is killing me. I've been offered Gonzalez for M. Bell and Mark Clayton. I desperately need a TE (darn that Zach Hilton). I would normally never give up a young RB for a TE (especially an old, declining one), but the risk associated with M. Bell makes me queasy. I do have Rudi, McGahee and Droughns, so it's not like I need Bell in order to have a good team.

Of course, I could keep him, and really drive myself crazy by adding Lundy to Morency (who I have stashed away too). And then I could add Wiggins or Scheffler or Colston at TE.

Aasgh.

Do we really need to freak out every time a coach makes a non-commital comment about his roster during pre-season?

It's called gamesmanship, people.

So is it a consensus that the 3 in question are Cobbs and the 2 Bells? Nash and Dayne are on the outside looking in?

How the hell did you get Portis for Tatum Bell?

Keeper league. This was when Tatum was having his good games about mid-season and Portis was just coming off his 3-TD game against San Fran. As for how I did it, that would be like a chef giving out his secret recipe, lol. :D

Wow. If Tatum winds up with the job, he'll prove to be tremendous value given his ADP. I took him at 7.6 in my main draft, strictly thinking he'd be a RB3.

it won't be TATUM... he has had so many chances to separate himself and he's still in the same spot he started. the only way he starts is with a different team

Cobbs off the waiver wire would be even better value. ;)

Soooo, we all gonna be glued to the TV/internet Thursday at 10PM Eastern? :D

Mario's Secret Recipe1. Have a moron in your league.

2. Trade with him.

Delicious!

If Cedric Cobbs wins this starting job I'll eat my hat...

For weeks I've just been having fun saying he'd end up as the starter just because I thought it was funny since he was on my one fantasy squad.

Now I see it could actually happen?

:loco:

I've never been more convinced Denver will go get a top RB in next year's draft as long as they can get decent value (unless one of their current RBs really steps it up this season).

I think you're right. They haven't been this thin at RB IMHO since Derrick Loville was their starter during Shanny's first year back in 1994. :X

Tatum looks to be the man to target here. He rushed for 900+ yards last season. Regardless if he gets the starting gig, he is still worth playing on bye weeks and fill ins as a spot starter. So it will likely be a comitee reagrdless if Tatum does not start. If he does win the starting job it is very likely that he keeps it for himself. This off season could very well be a test from Shanny to see what he's made off. My $$ is on Tatum to have the most rushing yards at season's end.
