Marques Colston: Impresses Saints

RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com

Wednesday, August 30, 2006

Update: Colston has moved ahead of Devery Henderson on the depth chart and is penciled in as the Saints' starting receiver opposite Joe Horn heading into the regular season, the Times-Picayune reports.

Everything I've been reading indicates Colston will be the starter opposite Horn.

Colston Moving Up

the reason i bring all of this up is because in a lot of leagues right now colston is listed as a TE...and being a number 2 wideout in reality, with HUGE red zone size...he's definitly worth a shark bite...

~thoughts?

I drafted him late in a recent survivor draft with several staffers. I've liked what I've seen this preseason.

I have him in both of my dynasty leagues. Horn is getting old and looked damn slow in preseason. Siants delt away Stalworth. Something tells me this is a huge diamond in the rough.

my sentiments exactly stashy....

Colston and Dev Henderson are the WR2/3 combo in NO.

Yes, you should know the name.

7th rounder IIRC from Hofstra (where Chrebet played, IIRC).

Have been keeping an eye on him. FWIW, he's now listed as the starter on the Saints' website. Up until yesterday the spot was blank.

For leagues that allow pickups now, I would take a flier on Colston. If he has a good game on Sunday, there will be a bum rush to get him.

When I originally opened bidding on him in Zealots, he was listed as a TE. By the time he made it to my roster, he was a WR (MFL).I would expect that he will be listed as a WR, sooner or later, on all sites.

Saints fan here -- if you have a spot available as your WR 5/6, take a flier on him. Something tells me his size reminds Brees of Gates, and his hands have been really solid. Nice sleeper potential here.

Would you rather have Samie Parker or Colston as your WR#6?
He has risen from 7th round draft pick to #3 starter in the course of one training camp. I'd take Colston, particularly in dynasty.

Tried to get him, but somebody else in my league was paying attention :hot: . He went about 2 spots ahead of me on the WW.

Where the Jets practice or used to practice too(not sure if they do anymore). Good place to get noticed as Fiedler was "a nobody" throwing passes to Chrebet in practice warm ups. A few linemen have also come from Hofstra.

Will MFL carry him as a WR/TE or just a WR now? Just curious. Nobody drafted him as a TE, but if they had and then MFL changed him to a WR....what to do?

I ahve never seen MFL list a player as a "slash" like you suggest. Yahoo, yes, but not MFL. I may be wrong, and maybe it varies from league to league, but I do three leagues on MFL, and there are no WR/TE's that I know of.BTW, the Colston auction continues, he's at $2300 right now. Too rich for my blood.EDIT: Hmmm, in my original post, I said he "made it to my roster". Noy true. He's still a FA. It was mid-auction that his position switched.

Is this guy going to be the #2 without question ?
it appears to be so...as of today...he is listed number 2 on the saints webpage....http://www.neworleanssaints.com/depthchart.cfm
Now the tough question, should I dropeither Michael Jenkins or Vincent Jackson

for Marques Colston ?
i would dump jenkins...just because vick doesn't throw the ball...and he has more competition...jackson on the other hand might be starting....

I wish Housh would be listed as OUT so I could IR him for the week and pickup Colston. Damned roster limits.
My league requires starting 4 WR's and 1 TE. He would seem to give me great flexibility in my roster as to where to play him... Currently I'm carrying 6 WR's and 2 TE's on my roster: Chambers, Glenn, Muhammad, Mi. Clayton, B. Edwards, Curtis, LJ Smith, and Winslow. Would you dump any of these for Colston? If I dumped Curtis, for example, than I might be in a position to trade LJ Smith to upgrade another position. Thoughts??

Well not to go all WDIS, but the only guy there you could even think about dropping is Curtis.

Kevin Curtis

do you think the #2 WR on the saints is going to get more chances than a guy like winslow or troupe?

it is interesting because on yahoo colston is a WR/TE and could be an interesting TE choice.

"Is it worth dropping Reggie Williams or Eric Moulds to pick him up in a Dynasty league (WR6)?"

ask yourself...are you ever going to play eric moulds or reggie williams on your team?...and if the answer is no, to one or even both...then you know what to do...

horn is old, colston is starting now....might be number 1 if horn goes down...i think that potential alone is worth some serious consideration...especially over a number 3 wideout in jax and a david carr option...

Good points. I'll put a bid in on him and see if anyone else is paying attention. I'm thinking about cutting Moulds. I still thing Reggie Williams has some potential.... maybe......

BUMP!

Colston just scored on a 12 yard catch.

So far, 4-49 and 1 TD.

I'd say he has blown by Vincent Jackson and Brandon Marshall on the dynasty charts.

Update - NO did not convert on a 3rd and goal from the 2.

Heard that Colston was getting his ### chewed out by the coaches - apparently he quit on the route.

Not good, but, it was Colston's second target in the end zone - which is good.

really liked what i saw from colston... he looks like a natural... moves like a much smaller player, good hands, can do some damage after the catch...

reminds me a little in terms of physical traits & skill set to mushin muhammad at similar stage of development...

Anyone else watch the game and see Colston? Just made the plunge and picked him up. Hemmed & hawed btwn him & Welker (return yardage league) but opted for Colston on upside. In addition to Colston, wondering how Horn looked? If his demise is indeed not greatly exagerrated, could mean big things for Colston. IMO, Horn's ability or lack thereof will have more of an impact on MC's fantasy value than MC's actually talents.

at fanball "real leagues" he is listed as a TE
I just inserted him into my lineup as a TE. I wonder how long before one of the other owners in my league tries to say it's "cheating." Actually, I wonder how most leagues will handle it if it comes up. If it's allowed by Fanball/Yahoo/whatever league you're in, should the owners be able to vote it down?

"SHOULD" - NO, unless it's specifically written in your leagues personal rules/by-laws.I'm admit that I'm the wrong one to ask since I own Colston and am hoping for Bush to gain some WR eligibility.

Thanks guys. I picked him up a couple of weeks ago because of this thread and just got offered Jamal Lewis for him.
