Game Thread W1 - New Orleans v Cleveland (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
Welcome to the start of the 2006 season.

Once the game kicks off this thread will be pinned, but for now it will run on its own merits.

Please provide your thoughts, pre, during and after the game.

Remember that not everyone will be watching this game, so if you could provide detailed analysis it would be much appreciated.

Things like 'Go Reggie' aren't what we are looking for.

Why will team X win?

Who is the QB targetting?

How are the lines looking?

Who's running the ball well?

Who looks in over his head?

Who's injured (also reference this in the injury thread which will be created once the sunday games are live)

Anything that you think will be of benefit to someone not watching the game or who doesn't care about your fantasy team.

Post game analysis, in particular is what we want to see.

Go for it

On board for the saints game today (paying one of my waiters to run Brunch for me :bag: ).

Yesterday I was listening to a radio call in show here in NOLA, and at the end of every call they asked what the caller thought the Saints record would be at the end of the year. :lmao: 10+ wins was the average. I couldn't believe it. I know choosing to live here means you have some crazy in you, but geez. The Reggie Bush / Payton / No more Brooks or Hasslet kool-aid is more powerful than I thought. Perhaps it is the need to think positive. I personally refuse to believe any of it.

Yes, I do think our offense will eventually click & be a force. I think we saw very little of this during preseason, sans a big play by Reggie, but Brees arm looked good in that last game and the 1/2 punch from the backfield should be fun to watch at a minimum. But I am a bit concerned at our WR spot. Joe Horn is money, but he is slowing down. I think D. Henderson may get better, but he has a bad case of the drops from what I have seen & heard. It could take a few weeks for Brees to get on the same page with the WR's. I really hope we use Reggie in motion alot and throw it to him all the time (and not because I have him on my FF team...I wasn't that stupid at 2.5). I think he will be flat out money.

It is our defense that makes me think we will struggle to win 8 games this year. Just terrible. I long for the days of the DOMEPATROL. Having a LB corps that could stop the run or get pressure would be nice. And McKenzie, while I enjoy watching him play the game, gets burned way more often than he makes outstanding plays. All or nothing. Maybe we get better under the new coaches? I doubt it much this year.

Anyhoo....LETS GEAUX SAINTS! :bag: <------This is the official Saints emoticon right?

Browns fans.....I hate you for today. :football:

It will be interesting to see the ways Payton gets Bush involved in the offense today. Is he the punt returner too?

He is the punt returner and will play on offense. No one knows how he will be used or on how many plays. Gotta belief there is a reverse in there some where.

Yes, Bush is returning punts in the first game.

I think Bush will be used a lot in this game for two reasons.

1. The fans want to see him.

2. The Browns will need to keep an eye on him and that allows the rest of the offence to get open.

On a side note: The story goes the superdome was built on an old burial ground and the spirits have cursed the dome since being trapped underneath it. When Katrina ripped a portion of the roof off last year, the spirtis were released and the curse lifted.

Spooky. ;)

This would require forcing the opposition to punt. :bag:

Decent first drive by the saints. Bush targeted 4 times I think, and rushed twice. Duece used twice. One throw to Horn, a couple to colostomy. Very spread out, but Bush looks like the main focus for our offense.

Nice mix of run/pass in the first drive, which netted a couple of first downs & a 40+ yard FG. All in all a decent start for our O.

The d did well since we didn't have to count that bomb for a TD on the first freaking play.

wow is it me or does Deuce actually look like he's in shape this year, I remember last year he added that 15 lbs and he looked HUGE, but he looks pretty fit.
