Game Thread W1 - Atlanta v Carolina (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
Welcome to the start of the 2006 season.

Once the game kicks off this thread will be pinned, but for now it will run on its own merits.

Please provide your thoughts, pre, during and after the game.

Remember that not everyone will be watching this game, so if you could provide detailed analysis it would be much appreciated.

Things like 'Go Reggie' aren't what we are looking for.

Why will team X win?

Who is the QB targetting?

How are the lines looking?

Who's running the ball well?

Who looks in over his head?

Who's injured (also reference this in the injury thread which will be created once the sunday games are live)

Anything that you think will be of benefit to someone not watching the game or who doesn't care about your fantasy team.

Post game analysis, in particular is what we want to see.

Go for it

Okay, we're supposed to say that stuff during, the game, but I'm going to predict it.

Why will [Atlanta] win?

The main reason for this being due to Steve Smith's absence. Steve Smith would easily draw a double, possibly even a triple team, giving Carolina all the room in the world to run the ball. Without Smith, D Hall covers Key, Atlanta puts 6, 7, even 8 people in the box, game over.

Who is the QB targetting?

Atlanta: Vick is going to target not Crumpler, but Jenkins.

Carolina: Delhomme is probably aiming for Key.

How are the lines looking?

Atlanta is going to get a minimum of 4 sacks. 1 for each big end, 2 for Rod Coleman. Their offensive line is looking pretty good, but Julius Peppers has been getting the best of Todd Weiner. Carolina's line has been caving in due to not only Atlanta's line, but Kerney, Beck, and Boley all being dedicated to the run.

Who's running the ball well?

Atlanta. Who else? Warrick Dunn goes for 135 yards on 26 rushes, Michael Vick has 2 scrambles for 31 yards, and Jerious Norwood breaks through the line for a 51 of his 64 total yards and a touchdown. DeShaun foster gets 65 yards on 23 carries in 3 quarters, and Carolina puts DeAngelo Williams in who gets 42 yards on only 9 carries.

Who looks in over his head?

Just a gut feeling, I'm gonna say Steve Smith. He'll end up freaking out when Atlanta pulls ahead by any more than 3 points, and want to go in the game; John Fox will decline, but Smith is going to be playing Atlanta with a grudge next time they meet.

Who's Injured?

Duh. For the third time, Steve Smith. Ed Hartwell and Fred McCrary are both hurt going into this game for Atlanta, as well. Carolina is already injury plagued with Evan Mathis, Jordan Carstens, Na'il Diggs, Shaun Williams, and Kevin McCadam all injured alongside Smith.

Final Score:

ATL - 34

CAR - 17

If CAR had Steve Smith:

ATL - 24

CAR - 28

Why would Atlanta score less? Momentum.
If I'm wrong, don't quote me. Or kill me. Just let it go, brag while you can, and enjoy it. B)

Koenan misses from 50 by a whisker...would have been good from 60. Zebras have Atlanta confused with Pittsburg thus far.

Deangelo Williams finally got in the game for the first time in the third quarter. John Abraham overpowed him on a bull rish and clobbered Jake as he was throwing - causing an interception. However, the INT was nullified because of a penalty.

Deangelo was back on the bench the very next play.

Atl first 3 and out. It doesn't matter the way Abraham is playing. What were the Jets thinking?

Dunn running at the GL! Gonna be a monster this season. The ATL o-line may be the best in the league, as I haven't seen a team put it to Carolina like this in quite some time.
