Game Thread W1 - Denver V St.Louis (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
Welcome to the start of the 2006 season.

Once the game kicks off this thread will be pinned, but for now it will run on its own merits.

Please provide your thoughts, pre, during and after the game.

Remember that not everyone will be watching this game, so if you could provide detailed analysis it would be much appreciated.

Things like 'Go Reggie' aren't what we are looking for.

Why will team X win?

Who is the QB targetting?

How are the lines looking?

Who's running the ball well?

Who looks in over his head?

Who's injured (also reference this in the injury thread which will be created once the sunday games are live)

Anything that you think will be of benefit to someone not watching the game or who doesn't care about your fantasy team.

Post game analysis, in particular is what we want to see.

Go for it

Not sure this is following the format, but this is probably as good a place as any to ask if Denver homers have heard anything in the last 24 hours about Denver's starting RB scenario. Will any announcement be made before gametime?

Will find out real quick if the Rams D has improved at all against the run. If Denver runs all over them - it will be another long year with having still to face LT, LJ, L.Jordan, Alexander twice, and Edge twice.

interested in seeing how bulger looks in new offense (no TDs for first team offense in pre-season, i think), & what distribution of run/pass plays, to get an early sense of what kind of season jackson is in store for, & how it will impact on principals in post-martz STL passing attack, also how prominently rookie TE klopfenstein figures, how all the new rams defensive parts fit together...

glover & wroten on DL...

spoon at MLB...

four of top five DBs new starters...

fakhir brown at CB & tye hill at nickle

both starting safeties chavous & atogwe

* the STL STs have been appallingly bad for years... just having a competent ST could mean the difference between winning or losing 2-3 games this season...

if defense is bad, they may be lucky to get to 8-8

if improved, they could have legit playoff aspirations...

Is Bruce all set for the game? I understand he's had a nagging hammy. Will it limit him tomorrow or is he good to go?

I'm really worried that SJackson's season will go as the STL defense goes. If it's bad vs. decent and better O's, SJax is really just not going to have the top 8 year that everyone seems to expect. This will be a very good game to get a feel for how good this guy will be on the year (just based off watching the defense play against what seems to be a top tier Offense in Denver).

It's gonna be a good game to see Denver as a realistic Super Bowl contender.

It's gonna be a good game to see Rams are not less effective passing under Linehan than Martz--though distribution will change. Holt should get a more lopsided percentage of catches.

... Jackson will not miss Faulk in the backfield, but Bulger might...

This should be a very good game to watch. No one is sure how the offense is going to look.

Bulger has been given the freedom to call plays at the line. He will get more protection than in the past under Martz.

Davis or Jackson at the goal line???

Jackson looked great on the Rams' first possession.

Mike Bell looked good on his first carry, breaking a tackle at the line of scrimmage and picking up around 6 yards.

Leonard Little is looking VERY good. Two sacks and a FF in the seasons first quarter. They probably have Mike Bell trying to block him.

Mike Bell just looked terrible in pass protection. He got thrown out of the way, Plummer got clocked, he fumbled, and the Rams recovered. However, Denver is challenging the play.

Regardless of the outcome of the challenge, Mike Bell won't win the starting job if he is horrible in pass protection.

Let's be fair. MBell made a GREAT block the play before. You can't expect Bell to take out Leonard Little on that pass rush. Tatum would have been just as flattened on that play.

For those not watching..... did S.Jax have a 95 yard run?

What NFL .com says:

1-10-STL 3 (1:19) S.Jackson right guard to DEN 2 for 95 yards (K.Lang, DJ.Williams).

Possibly, but it seems shanny remembers what did happen, rather than what probably would have happend anyway.

Did S-Jax just pick up a 95 yd run or not? they haven't updated his stats at any of the websites

850 KOA just reported that MBell was yelled at on the sideline for that missed block. He was told he has to make that play and he needed to "wake up."

Tough position for the rookie.
