Game Thread W1 - Buffalo V New England (1 Viewer)

Andy Hicks

Footballguy
Welcome to the start of the 2006 season.

Once the game kicks off this thread will be pinned, but for now it will run on its own merits.

Please provide your thoughts, pre, during and after the game.

Remember that not everyone will be watching this game, so if you could provide detailed analysis it would be much appreciated.

Things like 'Go Reggie' aren't what we are looking for.

Why will team X win?

Who is the QB targetting?

How are the lines looking?

Who's running the ball well?

Who looks in over his head?

Who's injured (also reference this in the injury thread which will be created once the sunday games are live)

Anything that you think will be of benefit to someone not watching the game or who doesn't care about your fantasy team.

Post game analysis, in particular is what we want to see.

Go for it

Big Pats fan here looking forward to the begining of the season.

Things I'll be looking for:

- Brady's targets. Will Watson be getting the majority of the looks?

- The running game. Dillon, Maroney, Faulk...The running game has the potential to really be a big part of the offense...but who's going to get the most carries?

- Harrison. Will he be able to play up to pre-injury form.

- Bills offense. Nobody's going to say this is a top offense, but will they be good enough to get some good fantasy stats for MacGahee and Evans? Can Losman lead this O?

Pumped for the season to begin....go Pats!

I think a lot of people are going to be surprised by the Bills offense. Im not calling it Top 5 but it will be much improved. Lee Evans is going to have a HUGE year: him and Losman have developed a raport with each other (both drafted same year). Losman has the arm and Evans has the speed to stretch those defenses. This will give McGahee a lot more room to move out there.

Also note that McGahee is slimmer than last year (was 240, now 225) and back to his college weight. He has regained speed and will be much more involved in the passing game this year. Don't be surprised to see him lined up at wideout. Jauron also will keep him in on 3rd downs unlike ####### Mularkey (hahahahah Dolphins, that monday nighter was a classic Mularkey game).

I think the Bills will still lose this game (no luck in Foxboro) but cover the spread.

I found this interesting... Patriots | Dillon content on sharing running loadSat, 9 Sep 2006 08:02:09 -0700Mike Reiss, of the Boston Globe, reports New England Patriots RB Corey Dillon will not have any problem sharing the load at running back this season, and is looking to win a championship, regardless of whether he is the lead back. "I'm here to win football games. I told you that from Day 1 when I got here [in 2004], it's not about me. However we're going to win, I'm for it," Dillon said. "So you can take myself out of the equation 1,000 times. If we're winning football games, I'm just as happy as can be."

He knows the kind of season he had last year, he's getting older and beat on more. He actually NEEDS to be spelled more often this year. Maroney will help that, this kid is going to be tough to get off the field. I have a feeling they'll they'll be splitting a lot of carries once he's healthy.

Like Maroney, but I don't think you should count out Dillon.

Per Sirius

Bruski out for this game.

Good For MaGahee

Also, MaGahee to play all downs instead of coming out on 3rd down like last few years.

Who's playing receiver then today? Brown, Childress and Caldwell? :X I would think they are gonna line Watson up on the outside a few times today...they have to!
Both Watson and Graham should get targeted a lot today. Also, Faulk and Maroney out of the backfield.

NT Johnathan Sullivan

You just never know what you're going to get with this list. They cut Smith...and now Jax, Gabriel and Mills are inactive. That seems a little odd. As for Bruschi this doesn't bother me. I'd love to see him on the field but he's needed long term and there's no use pushing it this week (or next). With Hill and Sullivan out that could mean the kid from Nebraska may see some snaps. With Kazcur out the OC era at RT has begun. In the preseason he looked like he could be a draft day steal. We'll know a little more today.IMO this game comes down to the O lines. If Buffalo can't protect JPL or get to Brady it could be a long day. If they can than anything's possible on week 1.

I think you will see New England go with

some strange 2 and 3 TE sets.

BB will have them guessing all day.

It should be fun to watch.

With Bruschi out and Vrabel inside we'll really get a feeling for what we have in Banta Cain. He looked great in preseason but now it's for real. If he can keep his preseason effort going he would be a huge plus both this year and for the future.

Should be interesting for Losman. I'm sure the game plan is to force him to throw on every down.

My first reaction was 'oh, oh'. But, upon further consideration, I'm thinking that Tedy hasn't been practicing so the defense is ready w/o him. That said, I'll be watching for Wilfork to be the run stopper up the middle, forcing McGahee outside (hopefully). Then, we need the LBs and secondary to perform.Note, regarding the Bills - Jauron isn't exactly Mr. Offense based on his past coaching performances. His offenses were offensive in Chicago. But, his defenses were good. I suggest that he'll try to make Golden Boy grind out yards and play the patience game. Brady will do just that. Pats 24 - Bills 9.

I'd like to see Maroney play so we can see if there is anything evident injury-wise when he runs or cuts. I'd like to think he is not badly hurt.

A nice start for the Bills. One play, one sack of Brady, one fumble, one Bills TD.
WOW....those points don't count against the Pats defense for FF do they?
?
Most fantasy providers have switched to only counting points against DEF/ST. Those points were against the NE offense, so no, they won't count in those leagues (like Yahoo). Check your local listings.
That is what I thought....It was the extra point that killed it and changed the score and not the TD itself. Thanks....

Interesting - I never would have thought to include the XP in the equation. I'll check that out.

AFAIK this is incorrect and I've never head this to be the case.

Then you'd be wrong.
"Why is the "Points Allowed" category for a defense different than the final score?

In Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Football, scoring for the Points Allowed category in leagues using Team Defenses include the following situations:

1. All TDs scored against the defense.

2. All FGs scored by the opponent.

3. All PATs (Extra Points and 2-PT conversions).

4. Special Teams Scoring (kickoff and punt returns for touchdowns, as well as blocked punts returned for TDs).

5. All other scoring categories chosen within the league.

Please Note: Points scored against the team's offensive unit (e.g., interception and fumble returns for TDs, FG blocks returned for Touchdowns, and safeties) are not counted in the Points Allowed category."

Every league I do where 'points against' are counted, those kinds of plays are included.

Did anyone see this? New England takes a Buffalo WR that was cut...suck him for info all week, and then they cut him b4 the game.

Patriots cut Smith, promote Childress

2006-09-10 12:12

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -The New England Patriots promoted receiver Bam Childress from their practice squad Sunday and released receiver Jonathan Smith one week after signing him.

Smith was cut by Buffalo on Sept. 2 and signed the next day by New England, giving them a week to pick his brain before the Patriots played the Bills in their season openers.

Childress, 24, was on the Patriots' practice squad for the first 16 weeks last year before being promoted for the regular-season finale - his only NFL game - when he led the team with three receptions for 32 yards and also made five tackles while playing in the defensive backfield.

In this exhibition season, Childress led the Patriots with 214 yards receiving and a 19.5-yard average per catch.

Of course he got paid for another week, so . . .

All aboard the A-Train

3 for 29 yards and 1 TD

+ 2 receptions for 16 yds

Sure Red, but I just find it so deliciously diabolicle how Bellichek picks him up, probably drips the guy for all their offense and gameplan...makes him think the Pats are his friend...and then it's bye bye bye.
