Which guys looked like they "Broke OUt" this week. (1 Viewer)

Im curious as to which guys you think broke out this week as opposed to just having a good game, meaning it looks like they will continue with quality production the rest of the season.. Im really looking for guys who were completely off the radar before the season starts.

A few obvious ones who I think Broke out today were McCoy, Ryans, Roman Harper, Justin Smith, Josj Bullock, And Whitner.

A less obvious one who were off the radar I think are,

Marlin Jackson? I know he played more cause of injuries, I think at least right? But then Harper played. So Im not sure if Jackson filled his usual role today. But he had 7 tackles and 1 assist.

I cant figure out which guy would be the better ww pick from this duo.

Ryans was looking good in preseason, so I don't know that he 'broke out', but I do expect it to continue.

Harper and Bullocks were solid and I expect that to continue since the guys in front of them aren't likely to improve much. It appears that N.O. shot themselves in the foot with the Donnie Edwards deal, but he's slipped a bit from the last couple of years anyway. The safeties should get a solid number of tackles each week.

McCoy. Hmm. I need another week. If he looks good in the next game (NYG), I'll buy into it. I don't think the WLB been a big position for Philly in the past, glancing at the last couple of seasons. However, that could be due to staying in on passing downs or not. Is McCoy is staying in? I thought I heard that near the end of preseason. Any Philly fans confirm?

I like all of the above due to tackle numbers.

Another guy who may be available is Terrance Holt in Detroit.

LB'ers

DeMeco Ryans

Keith Ellison BUF

Angelo Crowell BUF

DB's

T Holt DET

T Tillman Miami all had high tackle numbers.

Leonard Little looked pretty dominant and is underrated.

Shaun Rogers may be too.

My miscelleneous observations...

Shanle and Fujita were very impressive after all the NO LB chatter. Shanle is WLB, and could end up with big numbers. When he was sent from Dallas I commented that he is a good man, a solid sideline to sideline tackler and he'll have much better opportunities to post stats when teams run a little more than Cleveland did.

I'm considering Shanle or David Thornton right now as my replacement for Dan Morgan. Thornton is SLB in a system that interchanges strong and weak side assignments. He's no Bulluck, but he's good, and he's a playmaker, and he's going to be on the field more than most LBs in the NFL.

Manny Lawson had six solos and it was impressive. He made some plays in pursuit down the field after receptions by players who weren't his responsibility. He has sick speed and gets to the ball first. He looked like Julian Peterson in coverage. Not adequate, but great. He also made some nice stuffs on run plays that were sent right at him. 3-4 OLB who could be nice in big play formats and steadier than anyone expected otherwise. Kid's a real player. Consider he is up to 245 and faster than Merriman, Ware, and Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald.

I like the way Deon Grant looked in the Jax secondary. He didn't have a ton of opportunities, but he's an excellent tackler who was all over the field. I think he'll have some very big weeks.

Anyone watch Buffalo? Ko Simpson was in on a bunch of plays and Vincent was nearly invisible.

Chris McAlister played like the best CB in the NFL yesterday. He was a big part of that shutout and Joey Galloway never wants to see him again. That said, OCs will be going to the film and attacking Samari Rolle. Rolle could have some big weeks coming up. He isn't an ideal CB to attack, but McAlister really is the best corner in the league.

Jermaine Phillips, if he can stay healthy, may prove that a productive SS can play in Tampa. He is worth watching for now.

Whoever replaces Lito Shepherd will be an interesting play if he's any good. Anyone? Roderick Hood? I have no idea, but I would downgrade Sheldon Brown a little.

Johnathan Joseph started ahead of Deltha O'Neal. Interesting news if you like rookie corners. Joseph is as raw as they come and physically gifted and talented. Could be a bunch of tackles and a few big plays coming his direction. I'd like to hear more about this from someone who knows more.

Thoughts, corrections, further observations appreciated.

:goodposting: (s) all.

Appreciate the Lawson update. Been searching this AM and hadn't found anything.

Troy Vincent went out early with a leg injury (hamstring?) and Simpson replaced him. Lot of talent of the Buffalo defense for it to continue to be this bad. Hard to blame time of possession as the Pats didn't take over until the 4th quarter.

Ravens rotated Ed Reed over on Joey Galloway a lot yesterday and even though all the highlights showed blitz after blitz after blitz, the Ravens confused Simms more in coverage than in pass rush.

Deltha O'Neal played sparingly with a knee injury. Joseph did look good, though, and he's definitely more physical in all phases than Tory James. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see him move into the lineup opposite O'Neal at some point in 2006. Rookie corner rules apply.

Travares Tillman :yucky:

And Marlin Jackson is the better IDP option by a lot...if he gets PT. He's very, very similar to Charles Tillman -- struggles in coverage but makes plays. Problem is, he's been poor enough in coverage that he can't be trusted. Giants were in a fair number of multiple WR looks last night, so Jackson got a good amount of PT. Neither Harper or David were particularly impressive, especially against the bigger WR, so the door is still open for Jackson to bust through.

Yep. The Ravens actually blitzed very little (for them) & what's odd is that they played zone behind their blitzes, which I don't think I've ever seen them do.

I think I heard it will be Hood and that Reid compared it to the Al Harris situation where they had 3 startign quality CB's.We'll see.

Week two bump. Share thoughts and observations if you have them. Putting my Phillips comments in quotes because he is now leading all DBs in Zealots scoring. He is available in the 3 of my 4 IDP leagues, but I expect waivers to change that in all leagues this week. I have more thoughts on him, but they have to wait until late tonight. Off to the airport.

Not spectacular but Hawk was solid last week and may be getting it. When he stops think and reacts he may start flying to the ball and make plays.

Urlachers first 2 games weren't great.
