Who's the next Terrence McGee (1 Viewer)

I'm in a "fun" league where we field 3 IDP each week:

1 DL or LB

1 DB

1 D ( any player )

Most guys play 2 LB and 1 DB ( usually a big hitting safety -- think Palomalu, G Wilson, Ed Reed, Rodney Harrison, before injury, etc )

However, our scoring system also rewards for return yardage and TDs

Tackle Solo (1)

Tackle Assist (0.5)

Sack (2)

Interception (2)

Fumble Force (2)

Fumble Recovery (2)

Touchdown (5)

Safety (3)

Pass Defended (1)

Block Kick (2)

...and...

Return Yards (20 yards per point; 2 points at 150 yards)

Return Touchdowns (5)

So, while the usual LB suspects have all been near the top the past couple years, T. McGee has been the #1 IDP player in our league the last 2 years running:

04

McGee 198 fpts: 75/17/2SK/4TO/15PD/0TD + 1370 KR YDS/3TDS

Edwards 163 fpts: 105/46/1SK/7TO/14PD/1TD

Bulluck 161.50 fpts: 99/53/5SK/5TO/13PD/1TD

05

McGee 179 fpts 60/13/0SK/6TO/15PD/1TD + 1391 KR YDS/1TD

Vilma 169.5 fpts: 128/45/0.5SK/6TO/6PD/0TD

Edwards 159 ftps: 114/40/3SK/4TO/11PD/0TD

So, my question for the gurus here... Is there another DB who has the skill set and the opportunity to put up McGee type numbers this year. I suspect that only a player with fulltime CB/FS/SS duties + fulltime KR ( maybe PR? ) duties can approach McGee. On the surface, it doesn't look like there is one. Maybe Pacman, but he's already taken.

BTW, I had McGee the past 2 years, but some scoundrel jumped the gun on me in our draft this year, taking him in the 6th Round ( after starting RBs, WRs and TE )

Thanks,

P.O.

Gamble is returning punts, but prolly not available either.

Darrent Williams is returning punts, and could be huge if available.

Woodson is returning punts for Green Bay, which is interesting.

I think he's already taken, I can check

I thought about both these guys, buta) is Williams fulltime DB ?b) don't fulltime PR generally put up less total yardage numbers then fulltime KR ?c) woodson was scary inconsistent when he was here in Oaktown... when he played :loco: ( Yes we just got our ####'s handed to us by LT and company  )

Them's your huckleberries. Wish there was someone else out there. McGee is only returning punts. Parrish gets kick offs for the Bills. DWilliams is the starting corner opposite Champ. It's similar to McGee opposite Clements. I would jump on Williams. I have McGee and don't think there is that much difference in the two. McGee is more proven, but Williams was step for step with him last year before getting hurt.

switch those, McGee returns kickoffs, Parrish returns punts. check the box score

Keep and eye on Justin Miller for the Jets if he's starting week in and week out.
Miller looks very intriuging. What do we know about his role in the D? Is he THE starter at RCB? Is he only filling in until David Barrett is back from injury? As a starter, he looks like he could be exactly what I'm looking for. His rookie tackling numbers are similar to McGee's rook campaign and McGee's numbers went up 3-fold the next year as the regular starter. Miller's return numbers ( almost 100yds/gm ) are better than McGee's.

Hmm, missed this one the first time.

Are you all basing the return guys value in leagues that award for return yards? Or just return scores? My league awards 8pts for return TD's. i get nothing for the yards, but that extra 2pts is nice.

Consider Roderick Hood, DB, Philly, for a number of reasons:

As the returners turn

Brian Westbrook's gimpiness might underscore Andy Reid's reluctance to use him as a punt returner this week, although before Westbrook left the practice field, special-teams coordinator John Harbaugh included Westbrook among four players who are practicing returns, with Reno Mahe, Dexter Wynn and Rod Hood. Mahe, still listed as questionable with a high ankle sprain, does not seem likely to play against the Giants.

The most likely scenario might be Hood returning kicks and Wynn returning punts, which was the case quite a bit last season.

"Dexter's been a guy we've always had high hopes for as a return guy, so it would be great if we could do a great job of blocking for him at some point in time here and get him loose and see what he can do," Harbaugh said. "Struggles he has had in the past have been where he has dropped balls... I think he's one of the most secure catchers and fundamentally sound catchers you're ever going to see. He's had a couple of situations where he muffed a couple of balls, and I think when you're a young returner, you don't want to do that."

Yards and TDs; the yardage (1pt per 20) is weighted lower than RB/WR (1/15) but higher than QB (1/40)*All* TDs are 6

Thanks. This will be noted and brought up for the league to talk about. I would like to see what people think about it.
