Jerome Harrison to start if Droughns out (1 Viewer)

Rookie Jerome Harrison appears to be the choice to start if Droughns can't play. The Browns probably will use a combination of backs, with Jason Wright and Lawrence Vickers also seeing time.

The Browns have liked Vickers since they first saw him in training camp, and part of the reason they let William Green and Lee Suggs go was they felt Vickers could be a viable option running the ball if something happened to Droughns.

``If called upon, I could be effective, and I believe all of us could be,'' Wright said.

The main concerns for the Browns are blitz pickups and the pass rush. None of the other backs has the experience of Droughns.

the line has problems with picking up the blitz or pass rush anyway, so i doubt it will matter. :( no way do they repeat their zero sack effort of last week.

Was coming in here to comment on that. I see the Browns going into throwing mode early as they will probably be behind most of this game with a diminished secondary and a front 7 that has a hard time stopping the run. The only viable starter the Browns have is Winslow who spouted off about the coaches and may be in the doghouse this week. Harrison may get alot of quick dumpoffs if you are in a pinch in a PPR league (assuming Droughns is out)
 
What do we know about Lawrence Vickers, anything?

Seems to at least be the best bet to pound it Droughns-style given he weighs 240-something.

Braylon Edwards isn't too shabby.
 
Harrison will catch at least 5-6 balls for 40-50 yards. Mark it.

In HP PPR he will be a nice sneaky RB3 for deep leagues that start a flex.

He also has big play potential. Harrison is a playa!!!

Point taken. He should get decent yardage, but I just don't see him getting the TDs needed to be an every week starter. He certainly isn't bottom of the barrel but if you are relying on him every week, your WR corp may be in trouble.

I disagree. I think he is already showing signs he'll be a very good WR3 this season. And yes I'm an Edwards owner so I'm biased but he's been much better so far than I anticipated. I expected some early season struggles before he started delivering in the second half of the season. But at this rate he could really deliver as the season goes on.

Vickers is one of those FBs that is good at everything, great at nothing - he can run, catch, and block and give an offense versatility that a masher like Krieder or an excellent receiver like Sowell can not.

Bloom knows things.hopefully they'll stop trying to run sweeps with him on 3rd and short.
 
So it's unlikely Vickers could end up a Greg Jones, pre-ACL-type. A natural fullback who you could see one day being a 20-carry, 80-yard guy.

Greg Jones was a RB that got moved to Fullback, so he was not a "Natural Fullback". To answer your question....NO

watch out, hyperbole ahead: "Even (insert your favorite RB here) behind the Browns line wouldn't be getting any yards right now!"
 
Hey look at Harrison in the preseason. Granted it is preseason, but they put him in a number of times against first team defenses and the guy would get good yardage (8-10 yards). He is not a guy like Droughns who get 2-3 yards a carry, he is better. If the Browns coaching staff was looking to win games they would keep Winslow in on key third downs and let Harrison do his thing. Over time I would look to see him take over for Droughns an become a back similar to FWP. IMO

The old "loyalty to injured starters" and Romeo's pound first mentality says no unless he totally erupts against the Ravens. Next year is much more realistic.

I think that by the end of the year it will be much more a RBBC approach. This will limit some of Droughn's value going forward. Next year maybe more like the old Dunn, Duckett approach. I am in a keeper league and at this time will not be looking at dropping Harrison if possible.

Harrisons quality is that he has the ability to make plays by himself. He has the skills to get big plays, and I think that can be done without a good OL with Harrisons style compared to Droughns. Harrison is also a better pass catcher. I would actually say that Harrison is more suited running for a team with a subpar Oline than Droughns is. Anyone disagree with reason? I'd like to hear it. Harrison also said in preseason that he, not Reggie Bush is the best back in the draft. Gotta like that kind of silly self confidence eh? haha. In truth though. I really like Harrison a lot. More so than guys like White, Calhoun, and even Addai. Here's some highlight reels so you can get a feel for what his skills are.

:shrug: I doubt he holds much value, but I dropped Zach Hilton for him in a large league. In that league, we can't really wait on RBs (or most offense positions) to see if they guy pans out, unless your team is horrible.

Good question. I think because he's an inexperienced rookie. They all ready had a guy who they brought in to start and is an Adequate nfl runningback in droughns. Harrisons blocking might not completely be up to par. As its been talked about, a runningbacks ability to block in the nfl is of major importance. Plus its only the first two weeks, and he's been in the games in some situations, mostly for pass catching, which he's very good at. But I think as the season moves along, even with Droughns, Harrison will get more and more PT.

Cleveland Browns RB Reuben Droughns (shoulder) was limited in practice Friday, Sept. 22, but is expected to play in Week 3. However, Droughns could be limited on the amount of action he receives this week.

 
I picked up Harrison as a defensive measure in case Droughns can't go.

I definetly need him next week . Cadillac is off and I need a starter. So, I will be watching this closely.

 
What if Harrison become the next "come from nowhere" stud RB?

I know it's not likely.......but every year there's at least one: a guy on NOBODY'S radar, thrust into a starting role by fluke.........ending up with 1000+ yards.

Droughns was that guy 2 years ago. Maybe his replacement is that guy now?

Just one slight difference:Droughns was runnng behind the Broncos outstanding offensive lineHarrison will be running behind an incomplete, avg- Browns offensive line

:yes: He will do more damage as a receiver than as a RB.

Harrison, being more agile a quicker than Droughns will be less affected by the bad line. Don't get me wrong, a bad line is a bad line, but if I have a bad line I rather have a quick scat back in the backfield.

 
Reuben Droughns "will try to play" according to the Akron Beacon-Journal.

We're not sure if that means he'll try to warm up and get ready or whether he'll start the game and see how it goes. Either way, he's a game-time decision and not much of a fantasy option at less than 100% against Baltimore.

Well, the Line this year is IMPROVED with Shaffer at LT when it comes to Run-Blocking. And Droughns had 1,600 Yards last year. So, they can't be THAT BAD.And Harrison WILL take Droughns' Job THIS YEAR.

Reuben Droughns is the SLOWEST Starting Rb ion the NFL. He can't hit holes quick enough and RARELY hits the 2nd level. HArrison hits the hole quick, while it's actually still there. He reminds me of Tiki Barber with slightly less tackle breaking ability.

He can be a vialbe RB2 down the stretch this year. Running and recieving yards will pile up in November.

Well, he also Broke the Browns season record for carries with 309. Suggs was better in '04 than Droughns was in '05. He just couldn't stay healthy.

Droughns had 4 good games out of 16.

He had 2 Td's.

He had SEVEN out of 16 games where he averaged LESS THAN 3 Yards per carry!!

HE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

I was shocked by this. I can see if he couldn't run, but 2 carries? Not like Wright tore it up with his 2 ypc.

I also thought for sure he would do well as a receiver out of the backfield witht he pressure Balt. brings.

:no:Suggs averaged more carries yet produced a lower YPC and fewer yards per game than Droughns did last year. He also had fewer catches and receiving yards per game, in addition to losing more fumbles (in fewer games).Oh, but he did have 1 more TD than Droughns. So I guess that means he was better. :rolleyes:
