Chaos Commish

Marshall got the start this weekend, over Ken Lucas, which is very surprising.
Brees went after Marshall, a vet QB going after a rookie CB, not surprising at all.
Marshall posted 11 solos, recovered a fumble, and was awarded a pass defended for almost doing to Brees what he did in college very regularly. Take him the other way for six. It is Marshall's most outstanding trait, but he is a terrific tackler. Those of you who were following all the draft banter may recall I loved this kid. Hill, Cromartie, Marshall... that's how I ranked the corners... and I thought there was a viable argument for any of them.
What's up with Ken Lucas:

What's up with Ken Lucas:
Lucas was surprisingly benched before the start of Sunday's win over New Orleans with coach John Fox starting rookie Richard Marshall ahead of him.
Fox chalked the lineup change to nagging neck and shoulder injuries that Lucas acknowledges have hindered his tackling.
So, despite the big numbers things are probably the same. I just thought this was a good time to bring up Marshall again. It still takes a Gamble or Lucas injury for him to have weekly value, but there is long-term value here for those of you who separate DBs in deep dynasties. I see him available in a few of those leagues. I don't think he should be.On why cornerback Ken Lucas did not start versus New Orleans: We tried to take him out of as much contact as we could. But there are no guarantees. People can run the ball in third-down situations as well. We were trying to take some of the first and second down pounding off of him. No player wants to be taken out of there. We just felt it was best for him. It's the type of injury that can get better without more irritation. We just tried to take some of that (irritation) away by playing him on third down only.
On how much consideration was given to not playing Lucas at all: None.
On Lucas saying he was benched because of poor tackling: That's my job as a coach. When a player isn't able to do part of his job due to an injury, we have to make moves. He understands why. Kenny has played very well for us. When I think that an injury is the reason and not the talent level, we have to do everything in our power to help alleviate that. We'll evaluate it this week. He may be out there on first and second down. We'll have to see where he is healthwise come Wednesday.
On how rookie cornerback Richard Marshall played in his first NFL start: He did well. There were some things we could have done better in our pass defense, particularly late in the game. But Richard has played well for us all season, and he played pretty good again yesterday.
