He had 8 catches and 13 rushes. PIT D is very stout, and contained him. Rivers had almost 40 PA, it seems to me that it was more to keep the Defense guessing as to what is going on.LT is getting a little older, and he can't continue with all of these 300+ carry years. They had a early bye this year, and as a LT owner, I'm looking forward to him being fresh towards the end of the year.I knew the Chargers wanted to get Turner some more touches but is this the way it is going to be from here on in? I will admit Turner does run with good power but it seemed like LT never really got it going last night.
If I was an LT owner I would be glad they are working Turner inAs long as LT keeps getting the love at the stripe thats all that matters.
Not to mention that he will be "fresher" this year comes FF playoff time...If I was an LT owner I would be glad they are working Turner inAs long as LT keeps getting the love at the stripe thats all that matters.LT is still the #1 Fantasy back to have.
Exactly. LT's value drops about 20-40%. By the way, there's already another thread about this topic. As noted last week, LT still be the main guy, but Turner is expected to be the grinder as far as running out the clock in the 2nd half as necessary. As others have said, it's good for LT in terms of saving wear and tear on him. That said, if Turner is in the game and the offense gets to the stripe, I wouldn't expect him to be pulled for LT. Just something to consider...
Right... LT is such a stud that Turner came in and blew away the defense last night compared to what LT could do against them. On top of that, LT doesn't even average 4 yards per carry while Turner is averaging 7. And it isn't like Turner has just a small amount of carries thereby inflating his YPC. Turner is clearly the better running back. He rushed well against Pittsburgh. LT rolled over and died.SD would be wise to give the Burner 10+ carries a game, but man, LT is the stud of all studs, and it must be hard for Marty to take him out of the game.
The thing is they are not taking him out of the game. He is being split at wide out. Although he is not doing anything out there, I wonder if there are plays to him in that package.SD would be wise to give the Burner 10+ carries a game, but man, LT is the stud of all studs, and it must be hard for Marty to take him out of the game.
Pitt gameplanned to stop LT, and Rivers in turn beat them. If Pitt wants to shut down a RB, they will. Don't get me wrong, I believe Turner is an elite RB at this level, but Tomlinson is still his superior, although the carries he has amassed over his career will soon catch up to him.Right... LT is such a stud that Turner came in and blew away the defense last night compared to what LT could do against them. Then explain why they couldn't stop Turner. Turner was clearly a detriment to their winning. There's no point in stopping LT and not Turner.Pitt gameplanned to stop LT, and Rivers in turn beat them. Turner is clearly the better running back.
yeah man...suuure....you don't think that Cowher had someone following LT everywhere he went? Turner is a talented back and every LT owner should have handcuffed him early..but to say the Turner is "clearly" the better running back is just plain stupid....Right... It's gonna hurt his numbers just a little regardless. But he'll still dominate. Have you seen his remaining schedule?@SFSD would be wise to give the Burner 10+ carries a game, but man, LT is the stud of all studs, and it must be hard for Marty to take him out of the game.
Turner racked up his yards later in the game when Pitt had abandoned their game-plan, an impressive performence, no doubt, but his numbers would look similar to LT's had Turner been the #1 back. Then explain why they couldn't stop Turner. Turner was clearly a detriment to their winning. There's no point in stopping LT and not Turner.Pitt gameplanned to stop LT, and Rivers in turn beat them. When the Pittsburg defense sees LT in the backfield they are focused on him; however when they see Tuner they much less stacked - hence the easier yards for Turner.Right... A can't believe you actually believe that. Putting LT and Turner on the field at the same time is going to have a pretty drastic effect on what the Pittsburgh D does. When LT is on the field the D is going to key on him. When the D follows LT that is going to open things up for Turner. When LT gets the ball, half of the guys on the defense are already running towards him. When Turner gets the ball that isn't the case.Right... I agree. However, the woes surrounding LT don't extend to just the game against PIT. They extend to game 1 of the season. He's clearly taking over 25% of the carries. ok now it's your turnLT rolled over and died.
The first two games were blow outs. The 3rd game Turner was getting the ball to try out to run out the clock and he was getting good runs with his fresh legs against a worn out defense. The carries that week were 27 to 7. Last night we see Turner in the game late again with fresh legs and broke one. The defense was still needing to account for LT split out. Well said. LT is still an uber-stud, but Turner is mighty good himself. The comparisons will continue as long as the Chargers have an embarrassment of riches at RB, with the best RB and best backup RB in the business. This has less to do about LT, and more to do about Turner.

Seems solid to me. I'm not as worried I guess because I play in PPR leagues.Jay Posner, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports the San Diego Chargers intend to employ more two-running back sets after using both RB LaDainian Tomlinson and RB Michael Turner in the backfield at the same time for much of the second half during the team's Week 5 game. The Chargers rushed for 111 yards on 23 carries in the second half. "It forces teams to make a choice," said Tomlinson, who lined up as a slotback or wide receiver when Turner was in the backfield. "If they put a linebacker on me, then I can get the ball in the flat with some space. If they don't, if they walk out a safety on me, then we can run the football because they don't have as many people in the box."
Keep telling yourself that. I'll take LJ with no RBBC all day long instead of LT2 with Turner stealing carries.perry147 said:Macdaddy_2004 said:If I was an LT owner I would be glad they are working Turner inAs long as LT keeps getting the love at the stripe thats all that matters.LT is still the #1 Fantasy back to have.

Exactly. A true stud RB doesn't flop against tough matchups. A stud RB will produce something and then eat up bad defenses. Tomlinson does alright against bad defenses and flops against a tough defense. He's overhyped.Tomlinson's typical game against an elite defense is absolutely horrible. Nobody's arguing that -- it's a good strategy to win in the NFL. What I'm saying, is that this is an absolute killer in fantasy football if you drafted LT this year with one of the top 3 picks, or kept him in a keeper league with your first round pick.SD knows they have a SB contending team and smartly they want to keep LT fresh. With a back as talented as Turner behind LT it would be stupid to grind down LT so early in the season if it's not necessary. LT realizes this as well and he, being a team player, is willing to give up carries for the long term success of the team.
Disagree completely , i think he his on his way down . Turner looks much better than him running the ball .I say by the end of the season you will actually see the decline and might even see splitting 50 - 50.perry147 said:Macdaddy_2004 said:If I was an LT owner I would be glad they are working Turner inAs long as LT keeps getting the love at the stripe thats all that matters.LT is still the #1 Fantasy back to have.

I think he'll be fine. It just happens that they played two of the top 2 run defenses back to back in the Ravens and the Steelers with a bye prior to that. Last week he still got 26 carries. His #'s will take a little hit but not nearly as much as some are predicting. For the 1st time in LT's career the Chargers have a dominating defense and a very solid offense (have had a good offense the last few years). So they will be playing with good field position/a lead more than they had in the past. I think the entire pie for SD will be increased but LT's slice will stay about the same. Consider that so far this year he's averaged 25.6 touches/game and you know what his historical average is???? 25.9. Everyone just needs to calm down and if possible trade for LT using the flawed "diminished" value theory.Nobody's arguing that -- it's a good strategy to win in the NFL. Agreed .Parker ran for 58 yds 1 TD and a average of 4,0 ypc against one of the best defense in football. If they had a QB in Pitt , Parker would have run for 100 yds and a few TD's yesterday but unfortunately they have a game manager that cant manage anymore at QQQQQQQQQQQB.Exactly. Seeing as my second RB is Dunn, I will most likely be starting Tomlinson and Turner from here on out. Dunn is the second RB on Atlanta behind Vick.If you have LT, and hand-cuffed Turner, next week is a golden opportunity to play them both and probably come away with some monster stats. If you're light on RBs or in bye week trouble, especially.
Receiving yards count, guy.And Johnson had TWICE as many receiving yards as "the great one" had rushing yards.Yea LJ just ran for 2 yards a pop versus the Cards and got his head taken off in the process. Now seems like a great time to trade the best RB on the planet for him.
