Revisiting a preseason poll on the Top 3 RB debate (1 Viewer)

I posted this contentious little poll back in July asking the board to rank LJ, LT2 and SA with an 'Other Option'.

52.2% picked LJ while 25.56% went for LT2, 16.84% SA and 5.79% said 'Other'.

There was also a somewhat heated debate on whether Portis should have been included in the Top Three. I personally said no, as did many others, but let's look at the mid-season ranking:

3 Westbrook, Brian 18.95

4 Barber, Tiki 16.47

5 Jones, Kevin 16.26

6 Jackson, Steven 15.52

8 Gore, Frank 14.76

9 Jones-Drew, Maurice 14.11

10 Bush, Reggie 14.01

11 Brown, Ronnie 13.94

12 Portis, Clinton 13.26

So Portis was a better pick than SA this year... but, as suspected, Portis hardly merited top three discussion. Of course, the whole Washington offense is a mess, but that's another matter entirely.

Just an interesting observation revisiting an old summer debate.

No doubt! But, Portis was hurt to start the season. Injuries are part of the game, to use an old cliche.I just wanted to make a point to those that thought Portis wasn't a Top Three RB were justified.I think its clear, though, that given the state of Seattle's line sans Hutchinson, Alexander would have fallen back this year, regardless.

Barber

A few of those guys have missed a few games (Green, Henry), so if we take them out Parker and Taylor jump in the top 10.

PPr leagues-the top 10 doesnt change all that much.

Anyway...LJ and LT will probably fight for the top spot. Although a healthy Westbrook (big if) could challenge them.

I dont know of any point system that has Drew and Bush in the top 10. Do they get extra points for being rookies?

I you looked at the original poll our scoring is in there.We reward punt and kick return yardage... that moves them up a bit.

Nothing has changed. LT/LJ/SA were all good top 3 picks. Portis was not in the top 3. Simple as that.LT/LJ are still top 3 in most leagues, and SA got hurt. SA wasn't a bad pick because he ended up getting hurt. He was coming off 29 tds. You really think healthy he was going to drop below 10-12? SA was a solid top 3 pick as much as anyone. LJ was the most unproven, but we now know he's proven he's a stud, so there's not much room for argument.

It was a silly "debate". You prefer BJs from blondes, redheads, or brunettes. Regardless, you'll still enjoy it. The real debate was pick 6-12.

 
Nothing has changed. LT/LJ/SA were all good top 3 picks. Portis was not in the top 3. Simple as that.

That was my point.

I wound up taking LJ... I had been leaning toward Alexander..

Wasn't trying to reopen the 'debate'... just closing the book on the Portis angle.

Fixed.As has been pointed out, in plenty of other leagues Portis is producing enough to justify a top 3 pick.

I'd be interested in the scoring system that would currently have Portis as a top-three RB.. :confused: Or are you referring to preseason projections?

Both leagues I'm in (one std., one not) Portis is the #4 RB in ppg.Was anyone really going to spend a top 3 pick on Westbrook?

 
In most of my PPR leagues the top 10 are as follows based on total points. PPG are in ():

1. LT=155.95 (25.99)

2. Westbrook=147.50 (24.58) based on 6 games he played

3. LJ=136.20 (22.7)

4. K. Jones=135.00 (19.28)

5. Brown=115.30 (16.47)

6. Jackson=111.50 (18.58)

7. Barber=110.90 (18.48)

8. Portis=107.90 (17.98)

9. Gore=106.20 (17.70)

10. Taylor=105.70 (17.61)

In a non PPR they are as follows:

1. LT=123.94 (20.65)

2. Westbrook=121.50 (20.25)

3. LJ=115.20 (19.20)

4. K. Jones=104.00 (14.85)

5. Portis=92.90 (15.48) based on 6 games he played

6. Brown=92.30 (13.18)

7. Gore=90.20 (15.03)

8. Barber=86.90 (14.48)

9. Jackson=86.50 (14.41)

10. Taylor=84.70 (14.11)

So I guess to answer your question, he should not have been drafted top 3. Now if he had been healthy all season then maybe so. But his ppg still does not get him to top 3 even if you take out week 2 which he missed. Still a darn good season so far IMO.

As for other leagues, you'll likely find simlar results in your top 10 as well.
