Emerging WRs - who to target for the stretch run? (1 Viewer)

OK, there are a few WRs that might be available on quite a few waiver wires that could have an impact down the stretch. I'm thinking about guys like Michael Jenkins, Ashley Lelie, Reche Caldwell, Doug Gabriel, Nate Washington, etc.

The way Vick is starting to play, Jenkins and Lelie could provide some real value down the stretch. Matchups look pretty good the next few weeks. Not quite as good in the fantasy playoffs.

The NE offense looks like it's on all cylinders again. Brady seems to be getting more comfortable with his new WRs.

Nate Washington has been quietly putting up some pretty nice numbers the past few weeks.

Who else ya got?

If I were you I would look for WR's who are getting lots of targets but not catching a high percentage of them. Most Wr's will catch around 50% ....find some under that with good playoff schedules.

I like, and recently acquired Jenkins. I think that if Vick does continue to improve in the passing game, Jenkins is the main beneficiary.

Mark Clayton-

since Billick has decided to take over, he could start to see some deep balls. if McNair goes down and Boller takes over Clayton could be very solid.

There's a reason why Washington's #s have been quiet? He catches very few passes....not sayign he's not talented... from what I saw, he made at least one awesome grab. But the Steelers still don't seem to target him all that much.He had no catches last week until the last play when Batch tossed the ball downfield and Washington came down with it for 49 yds. That being said: I'd target the following in trades: Braylon Edwards, Donte Stallworth, Troy Williamson, Reche Caldwell.

Chris Henry?
His last 3 stat lines:Week 2: 5/113/0Week 3: 5/69/2Week 8: 5/81/1Having the time off certainly didn't cause him to lose a step.Cincy has a tough schedule through the rest of the year... will that give him more opportunities because they are playing from behind? Or vice-versa?

Caldwell over Gabriel?

Def. Gabriel over Caldwell - much more consistent in fantasy terms.

A sleeper I like, and who I am trying to get another owner to "throw in" to a trade to make the numbers even, is Antonio Bryant.

Deep sleepers who might emerge as solid WR3 in start-3 leagues are Devery Henderson and all Miami receivers not named Chambers (if you are in a PPR, Welker should already be rosters, but Booker and Hagan may be available).

Note that I like my deep sleepers in start-3 leagues - esp. start-3 PPR leagues.

Why Henderson?Colston, Horn, and Bush get the majority of the targets.Curious on your thoughts about Henderson

His schedule is soft the 2nd half of the year. He has the talent and opportunity. The run game is very good which will not allow defenses to key on the passing game. SF has a poor defense that will put them in numerous high scoring games. The offense should continue to improve over the course of the year with a 2nd year QB under OC Turner. The offensive philosophy in SF is predicated on running the ball and hitting on deep play action passes which Bryant has been excelling at this year. And, his YPC is high which means he will not always need to catch or be targeted a ton to put up big numbers (ala Santana Moss last year). I'm trying to acquire him in all leagues.

With Reg Williams and E. Wilkford stinking it up in Jax. look for Matt Jones who still may be on some waiver wires.

Actually I think Reggie Williams is a SUPER buy low right now. He'll bounce back nicely.
Agree. But matt Jones has to be considered as well. In the first three games they got about the same # of receptions altho I can't recall who was targeted more. With Garrard under center the Jax offense is having a rough time but the next 2 games (at home vs TEN and HOU) are good matchups.I think either would make a good low buy or you might even be lucky (like myself) and find Reggie Williams on the WW.

Caldwell could be a good play, especially in PPR leagues. In the two games since the bye, he's had 9 and 7 targets and Brady clearly looks more comfortable with him than he did before the bye. In the MNF Vikings game, Caldwell was repeatedly looked at for (and made) first downs. He had one TD, should have had a 2nd (Brady admitted not seeing him wide open at the goal line) and hit him in the red zone where he fumbled trying to do too much. With the success of the 5-wide shotgun vs. the Vikes, the Pats will likely have the confidence to run that formation more, meaning lots of quick hitters to Caldwell in the future.

he was solid early in the year, but he's been hurt and now he's back on the mend.i think teams will focus on the rookies. leaving horn and henderson open more often down the stretch - and brees is good at finding single coverage.not the strongest case, but i was going deep

Derrick Mason, McNair connection, BUY LOW! First week with Billick calling plays 6-67, 7 targets.

You would target Stallworth over Brown?

I picked up Antonio Bryant, who's been pretty quiet since the first two weeks and may be on your ww.

My own projection tool (yes, I know - they're like aholes and opinions, everyones got their own) shows SF with the most pass-friendly schedule through the end of the year.

Add that to the fact they'll be playing from behind, and I think it may turn out to be some pretty good production.

More importantly is how you stand in your rankings and your playoff situation. If you need to gamble in the hopes of picking up a game or two vs other owners, then I'd take the risk on a guy like Bryant. If you're 7-1 or 6-2, I'd take a more conservative approach, or stick with what you've got.
