Amani Toomer out for the season (1 Viewer)

Is this true? Any link or just a blurb on WFAN....???

Mike and the Maddog or a different show? I need to know the validity of this.

just read about that...

from CBSSportsline:

"Giants WR Amani Toomer (torn ACL) will miss the remainder of the 2006 season. Toomer hurt his left knee vs. Houston in Week 9, according to Giants.com. "I didn't think anything of it," Toomer said. "It was very disappointing when I got the MRI. This happened before (as a rookie 10 years ago, Toomer underwent surgery after tearing his right ACL). So I kind of knew what it felt like when it happened." Toomer did have the option to play on his knee, but wanted surgery done right away so he could begin preparing for 2007. "

NFL Network reports that Amani Toomer is out for the season.

No other information was given. We'll update the story as we know more. Tim Carter could move in to the starting lineup and Michael Jennings would get more snaps

Not sure who's gonna step up off of their bench. But I did make sure that I was the first person to break the news (gently, of course) to my league-mate that has Toomer. If anyone in your league owns Toomer and is maybe a bit thin at WR, offering some depth at WR along with the news of Toomer, in exchange for someone off of his roster may be greeted positively!

I only bring up Jennings because it seemed like Carter was getting pushed around a lot at the line last week. A track type like Carter might be better suited to line up more often in the slot. Jennings is a former track guy himself, but he's bounced around practice squads and NFL Europe and might be a little scrappier.

Looking at the NYG sch. chi.jags.tenn.dallas.car.phila. not a easy one but

seems who ever it will be to replace toomer will get alot of targets since most teams will put double coverage on Burress. :bye:

You guys kill me.

Amani Toomer, who save for one big game, was having a terrible season. But the guy who can't beat EVEN HIM out is gonna step in and be a fantasy proucer?

:lmao:

could be. a change of pace might make for an explosive game or two out of a relative unknown.

That kind of thinking can cause you to miss out on a lot of solid performers. Sure, the likelyhood of Carter or someone else stepping into a starting role and exploding is not highly likely but several players over the years have stepped into an opportunity and carried teams to titles. If your roster is deep enough, why not take a chance. In the NFL it takes talent and opportunity. Steve Smith was not a starter when he entered the league either. I am willing to cut someone from a deep roster and take a chance.

Sure, I get that. All it takes is opportunity for some guys. He would sit in my 8th WR spot too.But start him? You're telling me that Tim Carter/Mike Jennings immediately become fantasy starter material because Toomer went down?

I NEVER said start him and did not notice where anyone said that. They said he might start for the NYG. If your roster are deep I am recommending taking a chance. He has shown some big play opportunity in his time so far.

Carter and Tyree will see more time. IMO a guy like Hackett would post better #'s.. If your FA pool is this depleted make a trade fast..

I think that Shockey will get a huge boost to his value. I was wondering if that could put him at a comperable value to Gates?

I don't see anyone in the receiving corps benefitting from this other than Shockey and Barber. Toomer had 3 targets in week 8. With Plaxico out, he had 4 (caught 2). Shockey had 10 targets (caught 8) including a TD.

Carter/Tyree/Jennings will likely be too hot/cold to justify the roster spot.

Is this where the wheels come off of the Eli-train? He's already been shaky a couple weeks in a row (although by no means disasterous and one due to weather).

Domination has the right move. Of Carter, Jennings and Tyree, Carter is likely to be the most productive, but I see those three splitting Toomer's targets (assuming Burress comes back this week). Its a better move to try to upgrade your tight end by grabbing Shockey. If you have the room to take a flyer on one of the WR's fine, but it's a long shot for any of them to be productive. Shockey has been inconsistent all year and mildly injured so the owner might be willing to part with him (assuming he doesn't read this post) if you make a decent offer.Heck if you can offer two second or third tier WRs for him, then you clear the bench space to take a flyer on Jennings and friends. If you are in a dynasty league and headed to the fantasy post season go for Barber. With all the injuries he is bound to get a lion's share of the load. Point to his pending retirement as the reason for your lowball offer, and try to snag him for future prospects.

Thank you.

Terrible Season? He was tied for team lead in receptions...he was actually having a pretty decent season and was a solid WR3.

Holy Cow this hurts! Eli used Amani as a security balnket. Amani was tied for the team lead in receptions and had a huge catch at the end of the game that sealed it for the Giants. This doesn't hurt from a fantasy POV as much as it does in real football.

This will certainly bump up Plax and Shockey because they will see more throws. No Plax made it evident that they were going to use Shockey more. It should remain the same missing Toomer.

Dear God, please keep these Giants healthy!!

Take out the Philly game, and no he's not. 1 IND 5 41 8.2 02 PHI 12 137 11.4 23 SEA 3 29 9.7 15 WAS 4 81 20.3 06 ATL 2 18 9.0 07 DAL 3 26 8.7 08 TB 1 12 12.0 09 HOU 2 16 8.0 0Those aren't the stats of a "solid WR3". Not in any of the leagues I play in, at least.

If you're not in a PPR league, you don't get points for effort.

For us dynasty owners: What do you do with Toomer?

Season ending injury and I believe he will be 33 when the season starts next year. I am trying to decide if he is worth hanging onto in a dynasty league or is his career basically over with his age and the injury.

I would certainly cut him if you can add a solid WR prospect like Travis Wilson, DJ Hackett, Demetrius Williams, but I don't think Toomer's career is over. The big question is whether he'll be a starter when he comes back - The progress of Sinorice Moss likely holds the answer to that.

Is this the same Tim Carter who started last week and had 1 catch for 15 yards?
In the game thread I had posted something like "wait, he had a screen pass too". I went back with the DVR and he sure did. He caught it and ran for 5-6 yards. I emailed Stats and they said they were aware of it but I haven't seen a scoring change. Maybe today.

Moss can't make progress when he's hurt. Carter has a chance to step up. Toomer is a vet they all look to like Muhsin in Chicago. He's gonna be hard to bench due to "intangibles" esp with Tiki retiring. It's hard not to root for Jennings. The guy didn't even play football much and was signed because he's fast. He's still learning everything. Boy does he say the right thing too. My fave comment was when he was asked what it will take to make the team "I don't know, I never made an NFL team before". He used to work out hoping to make a team. Now during the week he works out more than most NFL players hoping to play. Just a great great attitude and work ethic. He had a catch and you could see a big smile as he got up and the cameras were zoomed in after the tackle. For a sec, he was proud then bolted to the huddle like oh sh. Very inexperienced but fun reaction. I really like that guy.No clue why the Giants don't have him returning kicks and punts. Morton's real unimpressive and doesn't run like he did with the Jets and Skins.
