Reasons:

1. The Bucs have not been playing well on D this year and should be available on your wire. If they were a top D, I would not be starting this thread.

2. Jason Campbell has never dressed for an NFL game. His "problem" has been reading defenses, if you believe what the local papers say. Gruden and Co. are going to scheme up some nasty blitzes, cover 2's and other trickeration to absolutely befuddle this guy. Don't forget that this is basically a rookie playing on the road in his first game ever.

2. Portis is out. Betts is OK, but he is NO Portis.

3. S. Moss is hurting and mostly ineffective these days.

4. Lloyd and Randle El are busts.

5. Washington is in a total tailspin right now. Their D is playing poorly too, and they could get down big early, forcing pressure and mistakes on the young QB.

6. (ETA) Simeon Rice rested this week and should be good to go next sunday as well.

bumped for additional feedback.. and possible reasons why the unit has been ranked so low in FBGs cheatsheets.

Admittedly, with the exception of the Eagles game the Bucs D has been pretty woeful this year, but with a young QB coming into Tampa to play his first NFL game and the additional loss of the Redskins star player; surely expectations have to be heightened that this could be the week the Bucs D puts up decent numbers :football:

 
My Beloved Buccaneers have struggled this year... one game they stuff the run, the next they let the RB go wild. That is the same as the QB as well. If you have a decent DEF/ST and feel confident, don't do this move.

If you are struggling and need a spark, it might be worth the risk.

 
The low ranking on cheatsheets also baffled me. anyhow i guess i'll roll with KC - they have a nice matchup at home vs Raiders

 
Dropped Denver for the Bucs for this very reason. League plays a double header this week to ensure a week 16 championship. I need a sweep or I'm out, so big risk big reward I hope. Bronco's D should not blow-up against LT running 25 times.

What? Campbell has looked good in preseason, yes he is essentially a rookie but his "problem" is nothing that I have heard of here in DC. If anything it has been picking up Saunders playbook. Lloyd and Randel El are busts? By what standard? Randel El has been the best Skins offseason signing. He is a solid #2/3 WR gadget plays galore, and been a good return guy. Lloyd hasn't been anything special but I love having Lloyd and Randel El, particularly with Moss hurting the past few weeks.Washington is in a tailspin, and now is the time for the Bucs to pick up a must needed win. This week we will see if Campbell is Mmm, mmm Good, or just some condensed tomato variety.
 
I have a very controversial theory I've proposed in other threads, been shot down a bit by some but it's held OK so far this season--when a fresh QB takes over midseason, their first few games aren't terrible. Opposing D's don't have the gamefilm yet to determine what looks give him the most trouble, and don't know the tricks to gameplan for him.

It's just a theory, but the first-ever-start QBs who have taken over without much preseason play--Romo, Gradkowski, Walter--at least performed well enough in their first one or two games to hold their own. After a couple of games are under their belt and opposing Ds know how to scheme, and their performace could decline.

I guess the gist of it is that the first start for a fresh QB isn't a guaranteed great play for an opposing fantasy D.

Lloyd: 237 yards, 0 TD, 1 fumbleRandle El: 167 yards receiving, 81 yards rushing, 1 TD, 1 fumbleLloyd is an unmitigated bust. Randle El at least returns kicks, but 167 yards receiving over 9 games when Santana Moss has been banged up most of the season? TERRIBLE.Washington offense is the suck right now. You must have the biggest :homer: goggles on right now.

Point well taken, but the 'Skins also have the change at RB too. And they are on the road to further complicate things. I also gotta wonder about the Bucs D being rather decent play this weekend... Ugh! :loco:

I was considering TB but then remembered I have KC. Campbell will look like Montana compared to the dregs the Raiders will trot out on Sunday.

 
was suprised to just see the Bucs D dropped for the Cards (?!?) in a 12 team league where it's manditory that we roster 2 D/STs.

KC and Indy are my D's right now... i'm starting KC for sure this week... but i may grab Tampa and drop Indy for down the road.

Thanks. I left Leinart and Vince Young off the list because we saw more of them in the preseason--starting games against first-string opposition--than we did Walter, Romo, or Gradkowski as far as I remember. I do agree that without Portis or Santana Moss, things will be harder for Campbell. He could be asked to just throw short passes all day and hand off to whichever RB(s) we see on the field, though, which limits his impact on an opposing fantasy D--which gets most of its scoring from sacks and turnovers.
 
Did someone say Moss downgraded? No portis,no brunell, no Moss!? Ive have the bucs in my lineup since tues. hope this works out like it should. At least one Barber TD?

:no:He completed only 51% of his passes, with 0 TDs and 2 INTs, and a 50.3 passer rating. He was also sacked 8 times for 58 yards (2nd most of any QB during the 2006 preseason). His 2005 preseason stats were even worse. Where, exactly, did he ever look "good" in preseason??

Gosh, it looks like there's no hope at all this weekend for the Redskins with their pitiful 3-6 record, facing the awesome juggernaut that is the 2-7 Tampa Bay Bucs. :bag:

 
Remember when Testaverde came out of retirement last year for the Jets? I started the Buc D that week. They made Testaverde look like a pro bowler. He then proceeded to suck against every other D the rest of the season.

I would say Tampa is at best a one week pickup, as they haven't been very good this year.

:confused: Vinny had 163 yards with 0 TDs and 1 INT in that game. Tampa Bay held the Jets to 212 total yards and had 3 turnovers and 2 sacks. The Jets managed to score only 14 points -- 7 of which came immediately after a 43-yard interception by Ty Law.
 
Just grabbed them of the wire and dumped Atlanta's D. Falcons are a M*A*S*H* unit right now so i am feeling okay about my gamble.

i think they can win the game. a relative bargain at +155 moneyline. under looks so good, i almost sense trap. 33.5??? how are they going to score 20 is what i'm wondering.
 
I picked up TB defense too. One I have with starting them is that I don't see TB scoring enough to put Washington into increasingly high-risk, high-reward play that leads to sacks and picks. The over/under at 33.5 indicates a low scoring game, which indicates conservative and/or inept offensive play. I don't expect more than 20 passing attempts from Campbell. I don't know if I'll start TB over Baltimore. I like the matchup but basically I'd be hoping for TB to get a big lead and watch Campbell implode.

There's a good chance that you're right. I've been hearing for awhile that Brunell was having trouble all season identifying who to throw to during the plays. You could see from his play he was often hesitant and indecisive and often threw the ball to a dumpoff or to his favorite receivers "The Ground" and "Someone on the Sidelines". Campbell will probably have more big plays, more sustained drives, and more turnovers and bonehead plays. All in all probably a wash. And Campbell's more likely to improve than Brunell, who has dropped off considerably since the first half of last year.Tampa defense is definitely worth a start today. Lack of frontline skill players and a rookie QB on the opposing side could mean a big game for them.

Probably going to start Tampa over San Diego today. Since Merriman has been out, the Bolts D hasn't been very effective (to put it mildly) and I am hoping Campbell commits a few bonehead mistakes to make things worthwhile. The absence of Portis and Moss helped persuade me as well - neither Lloyd or Randle-El are #1 receivers.

 
Bucs are a great start this week! Even if Campbell has a good showing.......expect at the most two scores. Tampa Bay at home, and due for a great effort will equate to 3-4 ints with at least 1 going to the house by Ronde. Next to K.C. and Chi. the best Def. play of the week. Wouldn't have cut Denver "D" though......should have let loose one of your 5th tier WR's. Denver would be a stupid play this week despite being at home......but I gaurantee someone will beat you to them off the waivers. They have some tough games coming up, but are a top 5 Def. It's just that L.T. factor that makes them fugly today! :yucky:

 
Well, Campbell went 19 of 34 for 196 yards and 2 TDs.

As far as fantasy stats, the Bucs D gave up 17 points, 252 yards, but got a DFR, and 2 sacks.

Not the dominant effort some would think against a first-ever-start QB, another time my controversial theory has held up in part. Cincy's D, despite giving up almost 600 yards, would have outscored the Bucs this week in most scoring systems.
