What is your opinion of who the Top 5-10 CBs in the NFL are right now?
Well Bryant Gumble just said McAllister is one the Top 3 CB's in the league, so maybe he's #2?1) Champ.who's got #2?
Antoine WinfieldI'll bite...1) Champ Bailey2) Chris McAllister3) Ronde Barber4) Rashean Mathis5) Nate Clements6) Dunta Robinson7) Lito Sheppard8) DeAngelo Hall9) Nnamdi Asomugha10) Charles Tillman
He's good too. After Mathis, it was really hard to choose who to include.Antoine WinfieldI'll bite...1) Champ Bailey2) Chris McAllister3) Ronde Barber4) Rashean Mathis5) Nate Clements6) Dunta Robinson7) Lito Sheppard8) DeAngelo Hall9) Nnamdi Asomugha10) Charles Tillman

I think he's right though. McAllister is great. If bryant gumble said it . . . [insert joke here]Well Bryant Gumble just said McAllister is one the Top 3 CB's in the league, so maybe he's #2?1) Champ.who's got #2?

FWIW, Dre' BlyTerrence NewmanKen LucasPacman JonesAl Harriswould have been in my top 15. Terrence Newman has been solid this year.I can't believe the lack of respect Terrance Newman gets. Doesn't get a lot of picks, but as close to a shut down corner as there is in the league.

Many people see Hall as a top 5 CB. I see him as a top 10 CB and I think that's where he deserves to be. Yes, he tends to go for the big play more often than he should but he's solid. As for Dunta, I probably could have dropped him a few ranks lower but I think he's going to be a good one.6 and 8...highly over-rated.I'll bite...1) Champ Bailey2) Chris McAllister3) Ronde Barber4) Rashean Mathis5) Nate Clements6) Dunta Robinson7) Lito Sheppard8) DeAngelo Hall9) Nnamdi Asomugha10) Charles Tillman
Beat me to it. Surtain after Champ.Aaron touched on him above, but I think Surtain is a top CB who is vastly underrated.
5 years ago maybe.Champ Bailey
Rashean Mathis
Patrick Surtain
Chris McAlister
Al Harris
Asante Samuel
Shawn Springs
Nate Clements
Dre Bly
DeAngelo Hall
Ronde Barber
seemed like the Redskins pass D has improved since he's been back in the lineup. I'm probably giving him too much credit though.Shawn Springs

Joseph held up pretty well to the rookie hazing tonight, granted the ball was in front of him all night but he still showed good reaction. Can't catch worth a damn, but agree with 'flashing'.I think Leigh Bodden belongs in the discussion and Richard Marshall and Johnathan Joseph are flashing excellent ability. Pacman Jones is beginning to get a reputation as a solid man cover guy too.
I don't think so considering how much of thier defense is dependent on thier corners playing well in man coverage.Springs injury and Harris leaving in free agency killed thier defense this year.seemed like the Redskins pass D has improved since he's been back in the lineup. Clements was awful early on this season and was defintely overrated compared to the contract he's playing on right now. But, since the Indy game or so, I'd be surprised if there are more than a handful of CBs around the league playing better than him. No way the Bills bring him back but he's going to get a huge contract that will make him one of the 2 or 3 highest paid CBs in the league this summer. He's definitely capable of being a top-5 CB in the league. He has everything...size, shutdown cover skills, playmaking ability, and he's an excellent tackler who does not shy from contact. When the Bills allow him to be aggressive, he can take a receiver out of a game and force the QB to avoid his side of the field. Few other CBs can do that.Nate Clements is very over-rated as well. I'm a die-hard Bills fan and I'll admit that. True, he's been pretty good the past couple of weeks, but he's no where near top 5, maybe not even top 10.
I was impressed by his play as well. He is still learning though. Looks like a good corner for the Bengals moving forward.Joseph held up pretty well to the rookie hazing tonight, granted the ball was in front of him all night but he still showed good reaction. Put Champ at 1, drop Dunta for Newman, and Im in. PacMan's character arguably outshines his play, but hes been OUTSTANDING this year.Pacman Jones is an easy top 5, maybe top 3. Baller all the way.AsanteChampPacmanMathisDunta
Wont hate you on Ty Law, but I will on Nate Clements. Inconsistent would be the nicest term I could use to describe his past couple seasons. Some good lists, some awful lists, but this is the REAL top 10.1. Champ Bailey2. Terrance Newman3. Chris Mccalister4. Rasheen Mathis5. Nnamdi Asomugha6. Ty Law7. Leigh Bodden8. Asante Samuel9. Nate Clements10. Dre BlyI know I'll probably get hated on for the Ty Law selection, but the guy has been shutting down everyone this year.

Heh...I remember that game. I also remember a play where Tillman had the ball but Smith stole it from him. Tillman wasn't that bad in that game. Also, the Bears are playing a lot of Tampa Two defense which mean that Tillman often has to cover the flat, instead of the WR. From what I've seen from him, he's a solid tackler who's not afraid to get physical.I don't know if Charles Tillman is. I still have nightmares of Steve Smith publicly depantsing him in last year's playoffs. Tillman certainly isn't afraid to get physical and is a damned good tackler. Then again, if he was breaking up the passes, he wouldn't have to tackle. He did own Plaxico Burress a few weeks ago though.I'm a huge fan of Rashean Mathis. I feel he's very underrated, probably because Jacksonville isn't a nationally popular team.
Woodson ever being a good CB was a well constructed myth.fridayfrenzy said:One name I don't see mentioned is Charles Woodson...are people in the same boat as me as he just isn't as good anymore and his name is what gets the notoriety.
I can understand the "negative aura" but...what are you going to do? The guys can flat out cover. Teams just pretty much go to the other side. Very few balls are even attempted his way. The ones that are will be thrown to the middle where he is handing off to the safety. Don't even get me started there.Pac simply took over the Giants game and got us the win. Yes, VY put it in the endzone but Pac intercepted it twices, almost three times, and had a great punt return -- ALL in the 4th quarter. Are there stats anywhere that keep up with how many passes are thrown to the coverage of a certain CB? That would be interesting. SOMETIMES people with a lot of INTs...actually aren't that good. They get picks because the other team is chucking it to their side 25 times a game.Wadsworth said:I've been down on Pacman since... well forever. But the titans D does seem to play much better with him on the field. He one I'd like to see more film on because he's looked better than I'd like to admit in the action I've seen.
Never thought I'd say this, but I agree on PacMan. He has been an unbelievable player, not just a corner. His presence on D and ST has made an enormous difference.diesel7982 said:Put Champ at 1, drop Dunta for Newman, and Im in. Some of the staff members do game summaries and thus may watch a game more closely or more than once.Funny... people rank 10 cornerbacks play, but have you actually watched them?Given that you can barely see them on TV and how they all play for different teams, you must be some kind of fan.
