Nittany Beavers
KDKA Pittsburgh weather

Thursday

Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of snow showers. Snow accumulation around an inch. Much cooler with highs in the upper 20s. Northwest winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

Thursday Night

Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of snow showers. Light snow accumulation possible. Lows around 17. West winds around 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.
The 6 AM news said that there could be 1-3" of snow possible in the Pittsburgh area, but there would definitely be wind gusts at game time. GT temperature would be around 24 degrees.Hope this helps.

I am going to the game and have been keeping an eye on the weather report. It is going to be very cold but not much snow is expected in the evening. I heard the wind was going to 10 mph, with gusts up to 15.

This sounds a lot like last week's game which also was supposed to feature horrible weather (rain then and not snow) with high gusty winds. And it turned out to be a case of some rain but no winds to speak of.

I would love to have someone going in the Thursday night game. Problem is, you're risking being in a really good mood or a really bad mood for a couple of days. Looks like I'm keeping a window with weather.com open.

The Steelers defense and Willie Parker should be good plays. Both TEs (Winslow, Miller) are also worth starting, although I think KWII is listed questionable. Anyone else is a crap shoot.

Edwards had a huge game against the Steelers in the first meeting. Unless there are major weather issues I think he's looking good this week as well - at least as a decent WR3.

It's not like Charlie Frye is any good. I guess I don't see the bar having been set very high for Anderson.

At least he established some kind of on field rapport with Edwards

Agree 100% with this. Edwards could easily have had 2 TDs the last time these teams met. He could have a huge game. I imagine that he will get his yards for sure with a very good chance of finding the end zone at least once.Edited to say regardless of who the QB is.

True. And I would agree that going from the starter to the backup merits some level of concern. I just don't think Frye is any good and I think the Browns are going to have to throw a ton and Anderson did show he could at least be competent against a decent defense last week. Put it all together and I think the chances remain good that Edwards can have a productive game provided there are no extreme weather issues.

also Troy Polumalu is Out and a rookie safety is starting in his place... one messed up coverage on D can open for a long TD bomb... but would it be to Edward, JJ, or KWII?

You could be right. All I am saying is you are taking your chances when you start a WR whose QB is making his first NFL start, on the road, in bitter cold, and against a 3-4 defense. The Steelers are going to be showing this kid all kinds of looks he has never seen. And the front seven are going to be licking their chops. Now if Cleveland can establish a running game to slow down the pass rush and if they are able to pick it up when the Steelers do blitz then Edwards and KWII could very well have big games. It is a risk though.

Agreed Anderson looked good last week but that was at home against a KC defense that's very vanilla, had no pass rush and couldn't stop the run and missed a number of tackles. The Steelers are at home, their defense is not vanilla, will get after the QB and should be able to stop the run.

S.Holmes anybody?!??!

Starting PITT WR's Ward & Wilson are OUT!

Or is the weather going to be to bad for the pass

Not to nitpick but Tyrone Carter, a 7 year veteran, will be in Polamalu's place (strong safety). Rookie Anthony Smith is expected to make his first NFL start at free safety due to the injury of Ryan Clark. The Steelers could also put Carter at free safety and play 10 year veteran Mike Logan at strong safety but Smith has looked pretty good when he's been out there and I think they want to take a look at him.

As I said before, I don't think the weather will be much of an issue. The Steelers are going to be patient in this game because they likely feel pretty good about their defense going up against a QB with very little NFL experience. They probably feel like they won't have to score a lot to win. They might throw early to get a lead but then they are going to run the ball and run a lot. I think this is a big day for FWP. Even when they do throw I don't see the Steelers going downfield much unless they fall behind.Just my :2cents:

WTAE-TV was saying the city of Pittsburgh is going to get 1-3". It is supposed to start this morning, taper off, and then pick up late this afternoon. It is dry right now but very windy.I think this weather forecast actually helps the Browns. The footing is going to be terrible which should benefit receivers and it may help slow down the pass rush a bit. Still they are starting a virtual rookie QB on the road in less than favorable conditions who hasn't played against a 3-4 so I wouldn't expect too much. This is a game where the Steelers could really use the Bus. FWP is best on a fast track but the Bus used to excel in bad weather. Overall I would bump all offensive players down and bump both defenses up.

Steelers - Browns To Face Inclement Weather

David Templeton, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - [Full Article]

The National Weather Service forecasts bitter cold, with winds expected to gust 15 to 30 mph throughout the night, creating a wind-chill factor as low as 0 degrees. National Weather Service meteorologist Lee Hendricks said a 0 degree wind chill can cause frostbite in 30 minutes. The official weather forecast also calls for a 50 percent chance of 1 inch of snow by evening and another inch overnight.

0 Farenheit? Yeah that'll stink0 Celsius/32 degrees? eh it's like that all winter by me and in Buffalo and plenty of other places in the US.

This weather makes my choices that much more difficult.

Owen Daniels vs TEN (7-99-2) last time vs them

or go with Heath Miller - in the snow vs a team he normally sucks against.

As well as Nate Washington vs. Wes Welker vs. Randy Moss

(ppr, 1per 10yards) 1per 25 kr, and 1 per 20 pr)

Daniels got most of those yards when the game was all but over and IIRC TDs too.

Jesus people, this is Cleveland and Pittsburgh... They are used to playing in weather like this...

Just stop micro-managing and go with your very first instinct...

Just tryin' to flush out the guppies...the sooner they leave, the better the water will be for the rest of us. ;)

Parker doesn't come out of my lineup, even though this looks to be some really nasty stuff.

9 Tds rushing and 3 tds receiving so far this year...more than I projected for him for 16 games.

all I know is that I am wearing like 4-5 layers of clothes tonight.
Me too and plenty of :banned: for antifreeze!By the way, I went home for lunch and WTAE weather report said about an inch or so total. This is shaping up to be a non-event as far as snow goes. But it IS going to be windy and COLD.Right now just a few flurries are falling and an occassional squall. The snow isn't even sticking on the grass.

Here's my question...

Should I stick with Pitt in my Survivor Pool?

How about a little insight there

Snow is sticking to grass and roads where I am (just east of the city). The salt trucks have gone through twice already. I plan on going down at like 430-5. I may not survive.

I just looked out the window and there is no snow and the roads are dry. I work in the south hills area, about 12 miles from the city. I'll be leaving at 6:00 to start tailgating at 6:30. The tailgate session will be a little shorter than usual due to the cold.

There is almost an inch of snow on the ground here in Churchill. That's crazy that we are so close but have such a difference.

Snowing pretty hard in Oakland at the moment(slightly east but very close to the city). Roads appear to be nothing more than wet, but if it keeps up, I can see some of it sticking to the field(which is already a muddy mess by the way). It should be a sloppy field this evening, that is for sure. I'm not feeling so bad about giving up my seats for this one :)

Really? There is not a flake of snow in the air or on the ground. The roads are bone dry. Very weird.

Picked up Washington for use tonight but I'll probably sit him with the windy forecast. Snow doesn't impact the passing game near as much as the wind does, right?

Why would the field be a muddy mess? IIRC the field can be tarped and is heated so snow should not stick. Any pitt homers know the lowdown on this?

The Steelers have one of the worst turfs in the NFL and share the field with Pitt. To make matters worse, they play the HS WPIAL championship games every November. By this time the middle of the field is all torn up.I don't know if they tarp the field or not but if snows tonight during the game it is going to melt and that is going to make the field even worse.

What GB said. The turf has been and will continue to be terrible. I love natural grass, but they can't seem to keep this field in good shape with all of the usage it gets.

Sounds like poor playing conditions; but is it good for the running game, ie Parker? I just realized his game was tonight :bag: , so have to make the FWP/SJax chice without much thought; weather could make it easy for me? :)

Anyone know how Roethlisberger has faired in past poor weather conditions?
