Giants new GM will be.... (1 Viewer)

December 6, 2006 -- With all the yakking about Tom Coughlin's job security, the Giants have a key decision to make before the season ends regarding their general-manager position.

With Ernie Accorsi retiring, the Giants will not wait until the end of the season before making a move for his replacement. They are expected to interview their in-house candidates in the coming weeks and could make a decision before asking to speak with possible candidates from other teams after the season.

The clear favorite is Jerry Reese, the Giants director of player personnel, who has gained immense support in his 12 years with the team. Others who are likely to be interviewed are Chris Mara (vice president of evaluation), Kevin Abrams (assistant GM), and Dave Gettleman (director of pro personnel).

Although Mara has impressive credentials, it is not believed the men in charge of the Giants, John Mara and Steve Tisch, are inclined to elevate another member of the Mara family into a role of such prominence. Most likely, Reese will be named GM and have final say, and Chris Mara will receive a new title with increased input on personnel matters.

There are reports the Titans are interested in Reese, who is from Tennessee, but the Giants are not likely to let him go anywhere other than to their GM job.

Titan fans might wanna take note of that

This article disapointed me. I remember a couple of years ago talk of hiring Scott Pioli when Acorsi retired. I wonder what happened to that?

so you thought he'd leave the Pats?

The Giants would be smart to lock up Jerry Reese. He's done an outstanding job running the draft the last few years.
IIRC he disagreed with Ernie about Kiwi but Ernie didn't care how many DEs they had, he thought he was special, right?I don't mean to insinuate he's not good, just clarifying one goof.
