Miami Dolphins...Nick Saban...2007 off season wish list (1 Viewer)

I think whether Saban leaves or stays that the Miami Dolphins are a long way away from being really good. Both Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas are getting old...sorry but it's true. Jason Taylor might be able to play another 2-3 seasons at a very high level but he does not have the size like Bruce Smith, Strahan, Reggie White, to really play into his late 30s...I don't see it.

The secondary was dismantled with the exit of Surtain and Madison...that DB combo was pretty solid and really the Dolphins have not replaced that. The secondary might be OK, but they need better DT and OLBs. The defense is their strength but the best part of it is getting old quickly.

Let's look at the offense. Saban drafted Ronnie Brown...this has been a mixed bag. Miami's OL is not that great and Brown has not really asserted himself as a #1RB week in and week out. Chambers and McMichael are a decent nucleus to a receiving corp...Booker and Wesley Welker make a decent combo as a #2 and #3 WR. Booker actually produced more stats than Chambers this season.

Saban could have signed Drew Brees...he didn't. It's been a rough season for Saban and another great year by the Saints and another 8-8 or worse from Miami next season...might really make him puke as much as we Phinsfans are right now. I thought Saban did a lousy job with Cukpepper and did not seem to be able to recognize that CPepp was not ready...may not be ready next season either. Do we try and go out and sign another QB for next season? Do we draft someone?

I'm disgusted with the Dolphins right now. I see little to rally behind but I am sure some fellow Miami fans will point me in the right direction.

MoP -- I is easy to get discusted right now as the dolphins continue to flounder in the post shula/marino era. To me, this team is good enough to contend, but needs someone who would put a sense of urgency there, as opposed to a "process" guy who starts slowly and then we have to rally to win games.

On D, We need a lockdown corner, a DT, and a Pass rushing LB.

On O, WE need an o line, culpepper to get healthy, and a speed burner style WR that can line up opposite Booker or Chambers + Move Chambers to the slot on 3 WR sets.

I would like to keep capers on as DC while gettting rid of Mularkey.

If saban leaves, I am not altogether unhappy with that. He made a lot of the same mistakes wannstache made but with a better pedigree to hide behind. I'd love to see us find an assistant coach with potential (Al Saunders?) to put onto this team and see where they go.

It's always easy to blame the coach. Whatever happened to giving a coach at least 4 or 5 years to build a team the way he wants (I assume the Dolphins will if he decides to stay, but you never know). Looking at the Dolphins, they need a QB in a big way. They could use more help on offense and defense. The Dolphins are short on players, not coaching. The NFL has turned into a coaching carousel, just like MLB. Looking at the entire league, maybe more GMs should be fired, not the coaches.

Saban the GM should be fired. As a Bills fan, couldn't be happier for Miami to keep Mullarkey. Hopefully they promote him to head coach if Saban does leave.

Saban blew it big time with Culpepper. His physical health is only part of the problem. If he can't run, he becomes a very mediocre QB.Because he does not have the smarts to make quick decisions and progress thru his reads. This shortcoming will never be fixed. He no longer can run around behind the line and throw bombs to Rndy Moss on broken plays. Joey H is even worse. 0.0 QB rating against the Bills - now that's an accomplishment :goodposting: Cleo Lemon is the most productive QB on the roster.

Tough to kill Saban after only 2 years. He inherited a bad 4-12 Wannstadt team. I hope he stays and finishes what he came here to do.

These 3 things definitely need to happen . . .

1. Fire Mularkey - this can't happen fast enough.

2. Draft Oline in the draft - much like the Jets last year with Ferguson & Mangold.

3. Sign a FA shutdown CB.

Obviously the Phins need a lot of work, the Wannstadt years is going to hurt them for a long time when your best players (Zach and Jason) are still from the Jimmy Johnson era. Heck, the team is basically still getting by on Jimmy's players for the most part.

The only impact player Wannstadt got was Ricky Williams, enough said.

For all you Ronnie Brown critics, I think you're being a little harsh what is turning out to be a sub-par class of RBs and maybe weak draft year. Brown is probably ahead of the game right now when comparing his situation to Cadillac (Pittman looks better) and Benson (Ricky Jr.). Gore was a risk that year to take, and he was a third round pick. Merriman was probably the best 1st round pick that year (2005) to date so far. So Nick has not had a whole lot to work with from the start.

Saban the GM should be fired.
I'm pretty sure that Randy Mueller (from Saints days) is the GM. This is his first season though.
Mueller does not have the authority.Saban does and he has done a really poor job with the draft. ZERO rookies starting on a 6-10 team is not a good sign for the future.
I think Mueller signed on right around draft time, so let's see what happens this year if Saban is still on. I don't know what you mean by ZERO starting rookies being a bad thing, but some rookies at certain positions take time to develop. I'm not sure I would start Jason Allen (CB) off the bat and gives something for other teams to focus on. Derek Hagan was a solid pick based on talent, but it would be crazy to expect him to start ahead of Chambers and Booker.

OK-make a list of those draft picks who have any chance of contributing. The OL continues to be a disaster with no youngsters on the horizon. SAban's answer is to move LJ Smith back to LT.

I want him to leave. The guy is an ###. He has not a clue about what kind of player makes it in the NFL. 2 drafts with only Ronnie Brown (good RB not elite), Channing Crowder ( the only future stud he hit on) , Travis Daniels ( good solid CB when healthy), and Matt Roth ( an up and coming solid DE) to show for.

I feel he totally mishandled Culpepper and he should have never sniffed the field 8 months removed from tearing his whole knee apart. That's why he brought in Harrington as a stop gap till Culpepper was ready in 2007. Harrington still stinks BTW.

He trades a top 5 shut down CB ( Surtain) for a 2nd round pick and let's our other good CB in Madison walk as well.

He does not address the OL with any quality.

He has not a clue in social skills in how he talks to the media or fans or the everyday people who work for the Miami Dolphins. Most of team hates him with a passion and he is a lousy gameday coach as well. He lacks the class a true pro coach conducts themselves in. And if your gonna be an ### ala Parcells or Belicheck win a few titles.

Good riddence.

We need to suck real bad for a few more years to get good draft picks, but we also need a real front office who knows what the heck to do with them.

Ah hell, lets throw Dan Reeves in the mix. NFL keeps recycling the same 40 guys anyway...

The owner just asked for the media's input on which direction they think the Dolphins should go. Sounds like they don't have a clue right now.

I imagine Chargers' OC Cam Cameron gets called in for an interview when he's done with the playoffs.

Any up and coming coordinators on the list?

Not sure of the choices out there. Would Mike Sherman be a good band aid for 2-3 years?

A minority?

Not a single minority has really even been talked to in this rush of NCAA hirings. If some don't get legit shots at the open NFL jobs, I'm going to start believing in the good-ol-boys network.

Cowher is still under contract. The Steelers would want some pretty serious compensation.

I think Rivera, Singeltary, and Chow will be interviewed by multiple teams each.

I know, but until someone is hired I can dream.

Probably the same names you're going to hear for many of these jobs:

Ken Whisenhunt

Russ Grimm

Ron Rivera

Mike Sherman

Cam Cameron

So if you are a head coach at the college level, you make $40 million. If you are a player, a scholarship is supposed to be reasonable pay.

LOL?
