Oklahoma RB A. Peterson To Enter 2007 NFL Draft

Brian Davis, Chip Brown, Dallas Morning News - [Full Article]

Oklahoma junior RB Adrian Peterson will skip his final year of eligibility and enter the NFL Draft, according to two sources. An official announcement could come as early as Today. Peterson, who is projected as a top 10 pick, met with Oklahoma HC Bob Stoops on Wednesday to notify Stoops of his intention to turn pro. The deadline for underclassmen to declare themselves eligible for the NFL Draft is Monday. His 4,045 yards rushing ranks third on OU's all-time list behind RB Billy Sims (4,118 yards) and RB Joe Washington (4,071).

ALL. DAY.

I've been waiting for this moment since his :lmao: true freshman season. He has potential to be one of the truly great ones.

Well my draft pick will be sealed up once he makes his formal annoucement.

I'm with Bloom on this one, I have been excited about AP since his freshman days. Rare combination of speed and power, and GREAT vision (which is what seperates the boys and men).

Totally agree with you on this one. Although after seeing some clips on him I've had a bit of a "man-crush" on him since H.S. It's kinda wierd actually :lmao:

Dear God, please put AP in Silver & Black.GLO, One
Raiders have much more pressing needs than RB IMO. Peterson's great but no one is going to do much damage behind that atrocity of a line right now, and a franchise QB feels right with the #1.

I agree 100%. It's just that I, like Mr. Peterson, have a mancrush on a 210 lb. black man. ..& I'm not even imprisoned

:D

AP -- Welcome to the Detroit Lions.

Kevin Jones has a bad injury, he is a special player, the Lions never draft for need anyway.

AP -- Welcome to the Detroit Lions.
I sure hope so. Past Oklahoma / Oklahoma State rushers have done well in Detroit; Steve Owens, Billy Simms, and that Sanders guy. Owen & Simms are the reason that I became a Lion's fan. At worst, we 'll perhaps see a few more televisied Lions games.

no way, no how, no chance the Lions take RB with their first round pick. The Lions are close, KJ has a shot to be back and he had a great year, and the Lions need Defensive guys and O lineman. Again, no chance the Lions take AP!!!!

You know…. Last year everyone was talking about Bush being the best running back to hit the draft in 10-15 years I kept asking myself what they would say about Peterson when he came out; we shall see. Personally if it’s between Bush and Peterson, I take Peterson every time.

Interesting stat….. Emmitt Smith, Marshall Faulk, and Adrian Perterson are the only the freshman to gain 1000 yards in their first seven games…. Not bad company.

Yes I’m drinking the Peterson

This had to be thw worst kept secret in college foorball. Everyone knew AD would turn pro the second he could. As far as what he does in the NFL goes I love his talent but I fear he'll turn oul to be a slightly better chris brown meaning he'll be good when he's healthy but he'll have trouble staying healthy.

With their first pick. the Raiders take....Brady Freakin Quinn!!
Close but it'll be russell. Quinn is good but like leinart staying his senior year has given ppl time to criticize his game. Quinn didn't come through in any of his 3 biggest games this past season(michigan, usc, and lsu) plus you can't coach 6'6" 260

Everyone said that about BMW too.Matt Millen is still there. The Lions will pick AP and not worry about need.

I think by law the lions are obligated to draft a wr in the first round....in all seriousness a combo of roy williams and calvin johnson would be scary

Teams fighting for the number one pick are never "close". Lions need a ton to be competitive

Sorry, I should have qualified. I'm not saying the Lions are close, no no no. I'm just saying that a team can be called close even if they are vying for the #1 pick. The NFL is crazy and things change from year to year, so saying things like what Leroy said are just wrong, though they may be righter when discussing the Lions...

If they both turn into superstars, their combined salaries would hamstring the team from improving in other, more important areas. Never be able to keep both.

From Great Blue

Will he or won’t he: Sooner plot thickens… Oklahoma junior RB Adrian Peterson took the unusual step this afternoon of releasing a formal statement saying that he has still not decided whether he is going to leave the Sooners and enter the NFL Draft. That appears to be in response to a report in The Dallas Morning News this morning which reported that Peterson had told Sooners’ head coach Bob Stoops last night that he would be entering the draft. According to Peterson’s statement: “I have spent the last few days considering my options to either enter the NFL Draft or stay at OU. The facts are that I have not hired any representation and I have not declared for the draft. My meetings with Coach Stoops and my parents have been to discuss all the scenarios. I see a lot of options in both so I am still undecided on what I want to do. I wish people would give me the opportunity to decide. Once I do, I will make an announcement at the right time. Any reports that are different than that are false.”

Yes, I was talking about the Lions/Millen/Ford trainwreck. The other 31 teams I think almost anything is possible as the Saints have shown so far this year.

True, but that didn't stop arizona from drafting fitz the year after they got bolden

I don't know what AP is waiting on. His status as a top 10 pick is about a lock this year. He has more to lose than gain by staying in college.

Boldin was a 2nd round pick. But they did use their first that year on Johnson too. But the Lions, used a 2nd on Rogers, 7th on R. Williams and 11th (??not sure) on Mike Williams and now possibly Calvin Johnson at # 2. That would be an unheard of run over what a 5 yr span? But, if Johnson is BPA you almost have to pull the trigger or trade down, if possible.

Have we heard a confirmation from AP? Anybody have a link?
This is all I could find as of today so far....Adrian Peterson's father tells the Daily Oklahoman that his son is on the fence about his decision that must come today if he intends on entering the NFL draft.

No one, from the owner to the media to the fans, would hold it against the team if they pass on Calvin.

My friend told him he was crazy to play in the bowl game and I want to tell him he'd be crazy not to come out

Has a college player ever put so many people on edge like AD about making a decision to enter the NFL?

:coffee:

This one really bugs me because I think it's very clear that he should jump to the NFL. I remember a few years back when Roy Williams (WR) was thought to be a top 10 pick and he decided to stay in college. I thought that was a bad decision, because there was no real upside and considerable risk. With Peterson, I don't think there is much upside and there's even more risk. He has all of the normal incentives of the #1 player at his position plus the implications of another injury. As we know, Peterson has been injured several times during his career and if he plays college football next year and gets injured again, then he'll really get the "injury prone" label. He could also fall into the trap of getting over-analyzed like Leinart--although I think that's less of a risk for an RB.
