These numbers are fluid and can change based on bonuses, roster moves, contract extensions, etc. Teams with high draft picks, such as the Bucs, will need to reserve considerable cap space for their picks.

Pittsburgh has 61 players under contract. For a roster that counts only for 53.

They are in fine shape. Its almost the same every year for the Steelers.

Two or three players will leave which will handle any free agent or rookie space needed.

This stat is useless without knowing who's under contract. $30M in cap space, but only 30 players signed is not the same as $10M in cap space, but 52 players signed.

 In addition they have no notable UFAs to worry about re-signing.

I am pretty sure that prior to the 2006 free agency period starting the Redskins were about $6 million over the cap but that didn't stop them signing several high priced free agents.

44 players under contract, 15 UFAs, 4 RFAs. Primary UFAs (starters): DE Charles Grant, RT Jon Stinchcomb, OLB Scott Shanle.Link

Interesting info, but virtually useless at this point without knowing how many each team has yet to sign.

There are going to be alot of very happy, very overpaid FAs this offseason.
There is going to be a lot higher percentage of bonuses given out as roster bonuses instead of signing bonuses this year.

instead of complaining about how the numbers aren't accurate, perhaps some homers who have some insight into how their favorite teams' numbers will change could drop some knowledge. This might be a good thread to do that.

For instance, I know the Raiders have roster bonuses due to Barry Sims and Aaron Brooks in the spring that they may not see. See if I can find the details.

Edit:

Sims is due a $4.533 mill roster bonus in march, along with a $1 mill salary.

Brooks is due a $5 mill roster bonus in march as well.

Fine.For all things Patriots cap-related: www.patscap.com

Well, there's some very good defensive FA's available this year and I sincerely hope the 49ers use enough of their cap money to get a couple of them.

March=07 NFL year which is why I asked if these were 07 or 06 #s. While I agree with ya in theory, you just took away 10% of the Raiders cap.

Sorry, I don't understand this statement. :banned:

Just goes to show you what money guarantees you. Not much.

The Bears aren't the highest paid team, and have the lowest paid coaching staff - and after next Sunday.... Champions!

With Jeff Hartings retirement...

Steelers will go from 1.44 million under the cap (if you just count 53 players and not the 60 under contract) to 4.94 million under the cap.

1.5 (or so) will go to rookies and a couple more cuts/retirements are likely to free up 2 to 12 million more.
