Carr available for a 3rd round pick? (1 Viewer)

The Houston Chronicle reports the general feeling around the Senior Bowl was that David Carr can be had in exchange for a third-round pick.

The Chronicle cautions that it's too early to tell if the talk is legitimate, but multiple sources were aware of the Texans' supposed asking price in Mobile. One personnel official said Houston won't get a third-rounder for Carr, and a conditional fourth-round pick would be more realistic.

I would think the Vikings might be interested. And Carr would have better protection from the Vikings line as well.
The Vikings would be a good home for Carr. It remains to be seen whether he can improve with a better line in front of him though. As for HOU's starting QB i'd guess Plummer

This would make the most sense, they could probably get something for Smoot if he is not a F/A to make up for the loss of the 3rd rounder. I would like to see Plummer in purple next year if denver lets him go.

Might Houston be moving up for a QB?
Not likely...I think that Plummer would be on their radar along with drafting a mid round developmental type. While personally, not much a Carr fan (average inconsistent who does little to make a sorry OL seem better) looking at the FA available and the rumored cuts/trade guys, I am not convinced that there is anything much better than Carr. Lots of dogs with different fleas than the one you already have.

Gruden loves QBs and the Bucs are actively shopping for a vet
I wouldn't mind that. Kid has talent, just hasn't been coached well and has been destroyed in Houston. Gruden, for all his faults, is still a pretty good QB coach.3rd rounder isn't a bad price to pay, really.

Viking should give up a 3rd rounder for Carr only after the doctors have successfully transplanted Chad Pennington’s head on to David Carr’s body. Carr lacks composure and leadership ability. He has been in the league five years now so I have serious doubts that he will ever gain these abilities.

fixed

A 3rd round pick is a steal for David Carr. He did have a 68% completion percentage this year, even if he was dinkin' and dunkin'.

For a conditional fourth-rounder, Oakland would be foolish to not inquire. He would be an upgrade from Brooks.
Carr would come close to setting the career record for sacks if that happened. He's already seen waaaaay too much turf in his short career.

This seems to fit well into Childress's offensive philospohy. Carr while not a rushing Qb is more mobile than I think people may realise as well which also fits into Childress's offensive philosophy. He holds the ball too long and is indecisive. Those are drawbacks that would need to be worked on. Maybe they could be fixed, maybe not.

I know it sounds odd, but I think the NYJ are a great home for Carr. Ramsey is obviously not going to be back. Pennington, for all that he got through last season, is still a gamble. And Kellen Clemens will certainly get a shot if Chad goes down, but a vet like Carr who may still have some upside is exactly the kind of guy you bring. For a conditional 4th rounder, I'd do it.

Trade Carr? Fine, he hasn't gotten it done, but then who is the Houston QB? Doesn't make much sense, unless they have a line on someone like Schaub.

Even before the regular season was over people (including myself) named Houston as the most likely destination for Jake Plummer. Hopefully this means Denver will get something for him, by Houston trading for him rather than risk a bidding war after june 1st

Denver will get dayne back who will be their starting RB.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice... :lmao:

Carr needs to go to a team that is stable and has a starting QB nearing the end. A year of sitting on the bench, relearning football and catching his breath is his best bet to get his career back on track. Teams that fit that description are not plentiful though. The Ravens (if they don't see Boller has the answer), the Chiefs (depending on what they see in Croyle), Carlolina (there appears to be questions about Jake) and Green Bay could be good landing spots for him as well as making sense for the team. If he ends up in a sitruation like Oakland he may be institutionalized by mid-October.

i'd say the vikings could use him, or even philly or atlanta with there issues. Vick is going to get in more trouble or have a bad year with his coach, and philly might trade mcnabb for basically nothing

This pill for Houston fans in regards to Vince Young keeps getting more and more bitter, as if that was even possible.

All I have to add is that Kubiak has no faith in Carr.

They are ready to move on if the opportunity presents itself.

Pisses me off that they figured this out one year too late.

I don't think Carr's so bad and wouldn't be surprised if he does well elsewhere.
I tend to agree with this. Has he ever had even an average offensive line? Any WR's other than Andre that can get open? It's no wonder he dinks and dunks; he doesnt ever have enough time to throw deep. Maybe he will never do anything, but personally I would like to see him play behind a good line before I cast him aside. I also wonder how this conversation would be if he had Reggie Bush behind him.

Thus beginning the Sage Rosenfels era in Houston.

You mean Jake Plummer era
Carr is better than Plummer.
Nobody is going to mistake Jake Plummer for Tom Brady here, but name one thing that Carr does better than Plummer. I honestly believe Plummer is slighty better in every important QB trait.
Very much agree, I think a reunion with Kubiak will be good for both Houston and Jake

The Buc's got an extra pick from Indy, so it's not like we would have to give up that much. Besides, Tampa has consistantly proven they need 4 healthy QB's to make thru a season.

Well, based on the activity in my Madden 07 when Favre retired (playing as Packers franchise) I would say the Packers should go after him.

Rodgers and Carr had a hell of a battle in pre-season and Rodgers did a good job filling in for the often injured Carr, but overall it was Carr who allowed me to go 12 - 4 and end up winning the Superbowl the year after Favre retired. I credit Carr. Gave him a big contract extension too.

Of course this is fantasy and has zero impact on reality. Frankly I should be panned for the above input.

As a Texans fan, if we could go redo things we should have signed Drew Brees and used the #1 pick elsewhere, so I'm not finding it any more bitter, personally. As for who QBs the Texans next year... you know I don't even care. There's so many other positions we need help at, I'm fine with a stop gap measure and look at getting a long term QB next year or the year after. A cornerback and the O-line are the two biggest needs in my opinion.

cstu, can you explain why you think Carr is better? I'm thinking that Plummer is houston is almost makes too much sense.
