Who holds more dynasty value? Mason had his worst season in years, but was still relatively productive in PPR leagues. Williams showed flashes. And it seems Clayton is now the #1 guy. Do you go with the proven Mason for a couple more respectable years? Or go for Williams, and the possibility of him becoming a playmaker? :blackdot:

I say Williams by leaps and bounds. However, if you're trying to make a 1 year run at your league title, you probably go with Mason.

Stats aren't there with Willliams yet, but he has the team officialls thoroughly impressed.

Demetrius is the burner that will soon compliment the steady Mark Clayton (who can also take one the distance).

Clayton is a younger version of Mason, and Mason doesn't like what he sees. Mason's "event horizon" is about 2 years or sooner, and then he knows he's gone from Baltimore and will have to latch on somewhere else or hang it up. Mason's currently signed for $3M/yr for 07, 08 and 09 but don't think that they won't part ways if it makes sense.

For a long term perspective, Demetrius > Mason. For 1 year, Mason may be about equal to him, especially in a PPR league. For leagues that reward big plays / big days, Demetrius is a good pickup.

I want to know who the 5 people were who voted for mason...and sign them up for my dynasty league....

Well just signed this kid in a Salary/Dynasty league...1.25 mill. Probably a bit high for a 3rd WR on a putrid passing team but high hopes for him. Saw this thread and thought maybe it should get some more love from the board...maybe some predictions for the '07 and '08 season. Also seems that his best comparison might be Lee Evans without the current opportunity. Am I way off base here? Anyone see Evans upside here with this kid?

This isn't close imo.

I wouldn't be surprised if Williams overtakes Mason as a starter by mid-season, or even during training camp.

Agreed, although as someone noted, after Heap and Clayton get theirs, there likely won't be a lot of passing yards left for the 3rd wheel.

Mark Clayton is more like Evans than Williams, but neither have Evans world class speed. Williams is a 4.5s guy, but he has good acceleration and a deceptive burst. I was most impressed by Williams ball tracking skills last year, especially over the shoulder - he's natural and fluid bringing the deep ball in. I would say he's more of a poor man's Chad Johnson than a poor man's Lee Evans, but Clayton is going to be the #1 there, so his upside is limited to top 20-25 in even the most optimistic scenario. It gets dicier when you factor in that the 2009 QB for Baltimore is Troy Smith or bust at this moment - I like Smith's upside, but he's far from a sure thing to live up to the "QB of the future" role, and that could leave Baltimore fighting for a Matt Cassel, or giving someone like Jake Delhomme or Byron Leftwich a second chance if Smith doesn't pan out.

I watched Williams play here at Oregon for years and the main thing that impressed me was his ability to make the final move to catch the ball. He always found a way to make the catch in traffic.

What might concern me is McNair. I dont know how accurate he is these days but maybe with McGahee we will see some more of Air McNair of old as defenses will have to respect the run more.

I would take Williams over Mason even in a redraft league at this point, although I probably wouldnt rank him higher than a WR #3 at this point.

I think the longer term question is about QB, and with McNair winding down, will Troy Smith be good enough, especially with the long ball?

I really hope to see Mason released, I'd hate to see him waste away on Baltimore. I think he is still talented.

Regardless, I don't see Williams as much more than a very late round flier this year. I may be sleeping on the kid, but Baltimore will not be anything better than average on O next year.

Demetrius Williams kind of reminds me of a poor man's Chad Johnson. I too wouldn't be surprised if he overtakes Mason at some point this season, or starts getting #2 WR targets (Clayton being #1).

You guys realize that Mason is one year removed from an 85 catch season? And had more catches than Clayton last year? I can't believe so many people are writing him off so early.

Dynasty, it's pretty obvious that youth is highly valued, but how do you know that Williams is even going to succeed in the NFL at this point. I think it far more likely that Mason sees a resurgance this season, breaks 1,000 yards again, and provides pretty decent value as a WR#3/Flex or fill in. I'm almost positive this offense is going to be a lot better than last year simply because they upgraded so much at RB. It's hard to be a productive offense when you are constantly in 2nd and 9 and 3rd and 7 because you can only get 1 or 2 yards per run.

I read an article over the past few months where Raven coach's were impressed with Williams and expected his role to increase quite a bit. Mason isn't chopped liver but he's going down the Rod Smith bell curve and I wouldn't be surprised if he started to pass the torch this year like Rod did last year to Marshall.

Rod Smith is 37, Mason is 33, I think Mason has 2-3 more years of good productive numbers. Well at least I hope so because I have to start him as my WR3 in a platoon situation.

Smith is older but not every player has the same shelf life. I think Mason can/will still be productive but more as a decent #2 wr (NFL wise not fantasy).

I voted Mason, because I'd rather gamble on the likes of Chad Jackson, and Robert Meachem over Demetrius as long term prospects at WRs, and Mason is the kind of cheap veteran I like to have to buy me some time while the younger guys develop - a hold down the fort kind of player.
