ESPN "The Huddle" good recap from 3-24-07 (1 Viewer)

They are now talking about all of the QBs switching spots and the causes of that this offseason.

Jeremy Green says Houston may still think Carr can develop, but that they gave him a chance and were ready to move on. He also says that Carr being cut was the most surprising offseason QB move.

Lions are not sure if they will take a shot on Carr. The Lions are also not discussing Quinn very much. Green thinks the Detroit QB situation needs to be totally revamped and if Carr goes there, he will be the starter.

More Qb discussion, now onto Garcia.

They are not surprised he bacame a FA, but were surpsied that TB was interested. Felt they may give Simms another shot. Green saw this coming when Simms contract was not long term. Also noted that Gruden has always been intrigued by Garcia. Should have some success in the WCO. Green says Garcia is the favorite to start by far.

They move onto a discussion of left handed QBs and that Gruden has not liked them in the past.

Matt Hasselbeck is ahead of schedule and should begin throwing in May/June.

Move on to J Stevens, saying "that is a bad guy." Also calls it "addition by subtraction." Likes to run his mouth, not a great player, Seattle police are hoping he moves to another city, etc.

Seattle does have a need for a big time TE, even though they signed Pollard. They will be a better team without him.

Jeremy Green says Kubiak is going to need to make the Texans a playoff caliber team in 2008. Schaub's first year as a starter will give him a pass for 2007.

Jeremy Green:

---Culpepper will most likely still be with Miami on 2007.

---by Bobby Petrino saying he'll give M Vick more freedom/free reign, he's calling out Vick to get his head in the playbook and step up. In Joe Horn they have a veteran receiver, so the receiver questions are diminished. Petrino's more vertivally inclined offense should help the other receivers (R White, M Jenkins). In signing (and making him the highest paid) FB O Mughelli (sp?), Petrino knows his offensive isn't strong enough to to run Petrino's power offense.

The Texans seem like the NFL's version of the Golden State Warriors.

And even if they start to right the ship a bit, will they really pass the Colts, Titans, or Jags? Each of those teams seems better suited for the now _and_ the later.

Four Downs

1st down: Is there any way the Raiders don't draft J Russell?

Green: Questions about Russell's work ethic/habits makes CJ look like a real possibility. It's definitely not a lock the Raiders pick Russell.

2nd down: If the Titans dump Pacman Jones, where does he end up?

Green: Raiders, based on reputation. Redskins. Wild card team is the Ravens.

Coleman: Pacman needs to control Pacman and his entourage.

3rd down: Is M Faulk a 1st ballot HOF'er

Green: Faulk was the one main reason the Rams were so successful.

Coleman: faulk's play influenced the game, made the RB position much more versatile.

4th down: Should NFL change overtime rule?

Green and Coleman both say no. Leave it the way it is.

Chester Taylor said (earlier in the Huddle) that he'd like to see either T Owens or R Moss in Minny.

Green and Coleman laugh at the thought of Moss going back to the Vikes.

Vikes may trade down, and then pick a quality WR.

Coleman: T Williamson will have to step up, with T Jackson looking as the starting QB.

No one in the NFC North has narrowed the gap between them and the Bears so far in this offseason.

Monte Reagor (earlier in the Huddle) said he feels lucky to still being able to play FB after auto accident. Green thinks Reagor is probably a bit disappointed that he didn't stay in Indy, but feels he'll fit right in with the Eagles.

Other Eagles stuff:

A Reid is back, and Green feels he was kept abreast of team business during the 39 days of his leave (sons in trouble with drugs and the law) and will not miss a beat now that he's back.

Where will Carr go?

Green: thinks the Browns will/should be involved. Also Minny should be. Oakland will at least make contact.

KC and GB are also possibilities.

End of the show, guys

Thanks guys esp Jeter and identikit.

I had to post and run. I had hoped you guys would post like you did. Sounds like I missed a lot. This is the best show on at this time of year.

If Miami gets Trent Green, like it's playing out, I don't see how they'd be able to keep both cap-wise. CMIIW, but isn't Pepp due a 5mil roster bonus for 07?
If Miami has noodle arm trent green as the starting QB then they are in ALOT of trouble. Plenty of time left before the start of the season to pull the plug on Cpep. I would be suprised with all the time he's had off if he isnt ready to start the season.

:goodposting: They just signed Smoot to be their third CB, and they already have an excellent PR in Randle El. Those factors, plus Pacman's glaring character issues in light of Gibbs' presence gives this exactly zero chance of happening. What a stupid prediction.

I caught the first 30 minutes or so and was flabergasted when Jeremy Green and his co-host tried to say that Matt Schaub is under more pressure entering the 2007 season than Michael Vick. Huh??

Vick is on his last chance to show he's Michael Jordan in cleats (with the fallout of his known pot use), while Schaub only has to exceed the expectations of a failure in David Carr.

It was another 30 minutes of brown-nosing, player-coddling, excuse making (nobody to throw to "boo-hoo!) for Vick. I guess they've never heard of guys like Elway, Farve and McNabb.

They're probably right. Vick has had the starting QB job for years and his main competition is gone. Schaub has started 2 NFL games and has been handed a starting NFL QB job for a decent amount of money and some draft picks.

So are we to assume that's a "YES" from both guys?

Sorry fatness, I ain't buying... The bar for Schaub is low and limited to the Houston fandom, while Vick is the face of the franchise and a national figure.

Add to this the off-the-field baggage Vick keeps bringing on himself, and the fact that the Falcons brass has cleared the decks for any QB controversy, and the pressure is growing.

They're setting the table for him to see if he will finally, once and for all, succeed or fail.

What are we fighting about here? Who is under more pressure in '07???Deffffffffffffffffinitely Vick. He's out of excuses.

And imagine the heat on Vick if Schaub does pretty well for Houston while Vick continues to struggle. Vick's got way more pressure this season. So does Atlanta's GM.

We'll have to disagree on that one. Either QB is off the hook if they look good, but what if they look bad? If Houston is 1-7 (which they could be) and Schaub is looking bad, fans will clamor for Sage Rosefels. If Atlanta is 1-7 (which they won't be) and Vick is looking bad, who are Atlanta fans going to be clamoring for, Chris Redman? If both QB's stink this year, Schaub will be considered as an experiment that carried a good price and failed, and Vick will be traded to a team that will have him start. There's a lot of dislike for Vick dislike on this board --- witness how many people assumed he was guilty on the airport "drug charges" when he didn't have any drugs. While Vick may be under more pressure on this board to produce this year, I don't think it's that way in the NFL. Just my 2 cents; I'm not a particular fan of either one of them.

If anyone should have pressure from this "board" is Shaub. How many times have we heard on here how great he and he's the next great thing. Now it's time to put up or shut up.

It's pretty obvious why Vick and Culpepper get a lot of blame. Someone on here stated how much better Green was over Culpepper. Uh, look at the stats, playoff records, etc...hmmm.

Why are we arguing over who between Schaub and Vick has more job pressure? This is like the fantasy football version of arguing over how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

Both guys are the apparent starters for their teams - with Vick it's a certainty and with Schaub it's a strong likelihood. Every starting QB has "pressure" to keep his job. As evidence of that look at how quickly Kurt Warner was replaced in the Rams lineup by Bulger despite having a three-year stretch that was virtually unmatched for a QB.

It's just funny to me that a throwaway line on a NFL show has gotten so much focus in this conversation here.

Green to Miami may not happen after all. heard on sirius nfl radio that KC is asking for a 2nd round selection in this year's draft AND conditional picks. Miami is only willing to give up a 7th round selection.
