1.10: Who Should The Houston Texans Take? (1 Viewer)

Maybe I don't understand completely how it works, but Levi Brown seems like a terrible fit for a zone blocking scheme like the Texans run.

My pick would be somewhere on the defense:

Amobi Okoye/Alan Branch

Leon Hall/Chris Houston/Darrelle Revis

Adam Carriker

Trade down and target a WR. Or take Landry, Okoye, Branch, or the #1 CB on the board. Any will be a big help to that team and much more a need than Levi Brown. Spencer and Winston and the future OT.

I might be too hard on Levi Brown. Here's a comparison of numbers between Brown & Joe Thomas.

10-yard dash

Brown - 1.84

Thomas - 1.75

20-yard shuttle

Brown - 4.89

Thomas - 4.88

3-cone

Brown - 7.87

Thomas - 7.95

Bench Reps

Brown - 31

Thomas - 28

Arm Length

Brown - 33 3/8

Thomas - 32 1/2

BPA on Defense: 1 of Landry, Hall, Carriker, or Branch. I'm not sold on Okoye. I also don't believe there is much of a chance that Peterson will still be there at this pick.

My dream scenario would be a trade down with Green Bay to 16 for their 2nd (value matches up somewhat close) so they can take Lynch ahead of Buffalo, then take 1 of the remaining CB's out of Hall/Revis/Houston or Carriker if by chance he lasts to 16. The gained 2nd rounder would be spent on safety or a WR.

If Peterson is still there, they are fools if they let him slide. Please don't make the same huge mistake we made last year. :lmao:

Peterson if available, otherwise I'd like to see them trade down and take a Safety (Nelson) in the first and a WR in the 2nd (from trading down).

I would avoid Peterson for two reasons. One, he is an upright runner with a history of injuries. Two, there are many great RB coming out next year and I would grab one then. Houston has Green and others to get by this year and need to focus on building the other parts of the team.

 except I think Okoye will be a good pro. He appears well rounded (so he shouldn't have off field issues) and has a great work ethic (so he'll work hard) and is smart (so he should learn the system). My thought is:PetersonLandryTrade Down and acquire pick if a team wants to move up and then pick (Hall, Revis, Lynch)or if no tradeBranchCarrikerMErriweather

Is just pick a darn good football player an option? In other words, take the best player avaialble, but I am not sure who that exactly is, but based on who has some chance

Peterson (don't think a real good chance he falls to 10)

Landry(dynamic playmaker and fills the need for FS)

Jamal anderson/gaines Adams ( texans need a pure pass rusher)

Okoye( 3 gap pentrator would be something the team does not have)

Hall/Revis (CB robinson ok, but needs help)

Meacham/Bowe/Jarrett, Ginn (honestly, I would have no issue with a 'reach' at WR, Walter/Mathis as 2nd/3rd maybe the worst in the league)

Carriker (not sure how he got in this conversasion, but he is nearly a size/skill twin for Mario, as DT yes, but as a DE is too much a repeat)

Edit:

I did forget Levi Brown (In terms of need it is obvious, but is he able to consistently do the zone part of job). I would say right after, pass rushing DEs.

I don't think the Texans are in position to be picky. The only area they don't need help in is DE/MLB/QB/WR1. Any other position would help.

I want us to trade down. We need to get some more picks to fill holes at almost every position. WR and DB are especially thin, and there are plenty of good ones if we drop back a little bit. We've signed some vets at other positions but not these. It's all good in theory but might not be possible, so here goes....

Landry--my #1 choice at the 10 spot, sick of watching the likes of CC Brown, Marcus Coleman, and Matt Stevens. It would be awesome to have a safety who pops people rather than chase guys and/or get run over. Good chance he'll be gone to MIN or ATL though

Adams/Anderson--would give a big boost to pass rush, moving Anthony Weaver inside. If Mario improves in his 2nd year, DL could become a strength. Doubt either will be available, but would be option #1 over Landry if either was there. Carriker doesn't belong with these guys IMO

Peterson--town would go crazy if we passed over him too. Might be a nice trade package to move down if he's available at 10, though

Brown--neutral. Would fill a need, but I've heard some say he doesn't fit our scheme. Gut says we won't take him anyway

Okoye/Branch--boring. Can't get Travis Johnson out of my head.

Hall--not a big fan. Would rather just go ahead and take Chris Houston here instead or any of the other DBs later in the round via trade down

WR not named Calvin Johnson--they're all a reach at 10, but would really like Meachem, Ginn, or Bowe (in that order) about 10 spots later via trade down. Very deep position in the draft, might be able to wait until the 3rd or 4th and still get a very good one

if we are lucky....it should be peterson. with our luck....he won't be there.
Last year, they had the #1 pick when the hometown hero was available and worthy of being selected there. Said player proved he has the _potential_ to be as impactful in the pros as he was in college, but the Texans took a DE who looks better suited to being an average DT. I'd say the Texans make their own luck.

I just don't understand how people can continue to judge Mario when last year he was playing with an injury that removes his ability to push off fully with his foot, an injury that most football players won't even play through. As for what the Texans should do, if I have my wishes they will trade down and recoup a 2nd round pick, then take the BPA. There's too many needs on this team to only have a 1st and a 3rd in the first day.If they do use the pick, if AP isn't there I'd rather see them with Hall, or if not him, Brown. Brown is supposed to be quick for his size and that might work well enough in Kubiak's system even as big as he is. But my preference would be trade down, and if we get one of the other CB in the mid-1st and get a 2nd out of it, I'd be fine with that.
