I like it. If Hawk could go that high, so can Willis. He's a freak. This is certainly going to generate lots of discussion - like Whatchewdoin Willis at #5.
I agree. Willis and Landry are both threats to go top 5.I like it. If Hawk could go that high, so can Willis. He's a freak. This is certainly going to generate lots of discussion - like Whatchewdoin Willis at #5.
I'm trying to organize a list based on "can't miss-ness." I think the little blurb you liked about 1st rounders needing to contribute immediately can be expanded beyond OLs. Anyway, Landry and Willis pretty much top "can't miss-ness" list for me.I agree. Willis and Landry are both threats to go top 5.I like it. If Hawk could go that high, so can Willis. Their 1st and both 3rds.Question AD, What did the Bills give to move up?Nice work!
I flipped a coin. I'm not crazy about McCauley either. If the Eagles take McCauley over Wright I would be sick. Wright has the return ability the Eagles need and is a better corner.
McCauley isn't very good. Andy just follows the herd against his better judgment sometimes. If the Eagles take McCauley over Wright I would be sick. Wright has the return ability the Eagles need and is a better corner.
I was getting pretty tired by that point. They lost Rod Hood as a nickel, so that was my thought process. Pick another corner if you like. The other consideration was one of Trent Edwards/Drew Stanton.McCauley isn't very good. I wasn't criticizing. I was asking sincerely. Two good, albeit undersized corners, is not enough.I was getting pretty tired by that point. If Detroit pulled that off, I'd need a clean pair of shorts too.If Detroit pulls Willis, Moss, and Ross out of the first day I will pee myself.
YOU would be the first person I would think of if that happened. If Detroit pulled that off, I'd need a clean pair of shorts too.If Detroit pulls Willis, Moss, and Ross out of the first day I will pee myself.
One of my driving intentions with this mock was to work through how Detroit could best improve their defense, using that #2 pick. A lot of fans would like either Anderson or Adams. But like I wrote, I think they're much better off going Willis EVEN AS HIGH AS #2, then DE in the 2nd as opposed to the other way around. What do you think of Ross as the CB in the Cover 2? I think he'd be perfect. Just like Griffin (also from Texas) was for the Vikings in the 2nd round last year.I think the Lions trades could happen. The Bills/Vikings one is a stretch, but still plausible. If Detroit pulled that off, I'd need a clean pair of shorts too.If Detroit pulls Willis, Moss, and Ross out of the first day I will pee myself.
I agree with Willis going as high as #2, the more film I watch of him the more impressed I am. He could instantly enhance any defense. Great job.One of my driving intentions with this mock was to work through how Detroit could best improve their defense, using that #2 pick. A lot of fans would like either Anderson or Adams. I told Andy when he sent me the preview that I found this a strange pick. That offense is loaded with or without Stallworth and Horn. It is a system. Bush creates havoc. Deuce grinds. Colston dominates smaller DBs. They added a pass catching TE in free agency. They really really really need to focus on that defense. No?Love the Saints pick and totally agree that if Bowe is there at that point there is no way they pass, that being said Im not so sure he'll be there. The combo of Bowe/Colston/Henderson would be unreal
That was a pick to keep Chaos Commish off my back. (Just kidding CC!)I'm not sure where to go with the 'Boys. I thought about cornerback as well as Bowe.If the Cowboys take Ginn over Bowe I will likely be the most irritated I have been in a draft since Greg Ellis over Randy Moss or worse yet watching the Seahawks have 2 first rounders for Joey Galloway.NitpicksCowboys taking Ginn, I think a lot of Ginn's value comes from returns and the Boys need a true WR more than they need a return man.
He did go in the first. Pick 1.33.I think Joe Staley goes first round now for sure.
The RBs are funny in this draft. I think Leonard is a bit overhyped right now. But at the same time, he is a player.I can't see Leonard falling that far, if he does he will be a huge steal in my opinion.
Other than McCauley, they were all considered at spots quite a bit higher than where they ended up.others I think are falling farther than they should - Tank Tyler, Drew Stanton, Eric Wright and Marcus McCauley
This is a HUGE point that I was hoping would come up. My emphatic response to this is THEY'LL GET NOTHING IF THEY GET TOO GREEDY. If they take just a bit less than value for that #2 spot, they'll come out like gangbusters. If they hold out, like the Bears are, they'll be stuck with the #2 and not get nearly the value out of it that they could.Patrick Willis to the Lions who pick up a 2nd and 4th for moving down. I think they could likely get more than that.
CC, if those trades happened and the Lions got Willis, I would be shaking hands with Jack Daniels early and often enough that those picks at the turn would be something I learn about in Sunday's paper. As far as the picks and players, I could see the Lions taking Stanton, as opposed to Ross. Conversely, the Lions have a recent habit of taking players from Austin and the pick would not shock me. Specific to Ross, I am indifferent but I do think Griffin is the better of the two. Willis at MLB addresses a need and helps or at least in theory helps alleviate some of the problems on defense, if he plays as advertised. He has shown he has the motor and moves to play 3 downs or at least be moved into coverage should an offense force him into pre snap coverage. He just need help with his technique but what rookie doesn't? He and Sims paired together would clean up much of the mess left by the DL. Thus, the team could actually decide to take any combination of DE, OL, DB or QB with their next few picks. Willis appears to be a high character kid and the pick would make sense but, as was suggested, not at 1.02. If this happened, though, I expect the HC to get his way and all those early picks will be spent on the defensive side of the ball. Sims, Willis, a new DE, a new DB and a better second year from Bullocks and things could get turned around in a hurry. Plus, a better defense will limit the pressure on the offense. Please, God, let something like this happen for the Lions. One of my driving intentions with this mock was to work through how Detroit could best improve their defense, using that #2 pick. They added Kevin Kaesviharn and Brian Simmons as free agents. Corner is a definite need. Where else to you see glaring deficiencies?I told Andy when he sent me the preview that I found this a strange pick. That offense is loaded with or without Stallworth and Horn. It is a system. If the Lions improve the defense to anywhere near the level this appears to, I think they have to be right in the mix to win the NFC Central next year. No, I'm not kidding. They've made decent moves with their o-line. Roy Williams should be a monster this year. I'm not sold on the situation at #2 wr and the RB spot. But it only needs to be efficient, not spectacular. If this happened, though, I expect the HC to get his way and all those early picks will be spent on the defensive side of the ball. I was screaming for Moss that draft day. Remember Randy publicly proclaiming his desire to play in Dallas, but he expected to go sooner? Anyway, I prefer Ginn to Bowe. Ginn is a polarizing player who unfortunately brings out the worst in conversation, so I am avoiding it, but he improves a team more than Bowe... instantly, imo.If the Cowboys take Ginn over Bowe I will likely be the most irritated I have been in a draft since Greg Ellis over Randy Moss or worse yet watching the Seahawks have 2 first rounders for Joey Galloway.![]()
They'll have players that can impact the team now with an immediate on field ROI versus any type of developmental period. That is assuming they do not draft Stanton or...for the love of all humanity...a WR, which is speaking directly to this mock draft and picks. All things considered I would feel much better with the team taking defensive players over the first few rounds. All the picks would play in September and would/should contribute right away. At a minimum they have an improved defense to start the year that could in theory be coming around by late second quarter, early third quarter of the season. If the Lions improve the defense to anywhere near the level this appears to, I think they have to be right in the mix to win the NFC Central next year. They were 23rd in run defense. The weaknesses were right up the middle and at LB in general. That team played with amazing spirit, but the talent level is lacking everywhere but DE, imo. The two additions aren't too exciting. Simmons was a nice player a few years ago. Kaesviharn is a journeyman type talent... stop gaps... upgrades needed all over.I dunno. I look at that team, and the offense impresses me, the defense doesn't.They added Kevin Kaesviharn and Brian Simmons as free agents. Corner is a definite need. I wonder how much Hollis Thomas' suspension had to do with that ranking. They were 23rd in run defense. The weaknesses were right up the middle and at LB in general.
If Calvin Johnson is on the clock at #2 I could see them trading down as low as #7 and getting either the first and second this year and a first next year. It could still net them Patrick Willis and if not they have enough holes that it makes a lot of sense to get the extra picks. Drew Stanton with an early second aquired in trade would be awesome. If they go from 2 to 4 to 7 I think it would be a great situation and should net them #7, #34, #35 #68 and maybe a 3rd next year from the Vikings with a decent shot at still getting Willis, worst case I see is moving down quite bit and getting extra picks and ending up with Laron Landry or Brady Quinn which I don't think would bea bad situation at all with teh extra picks. This is a HUGE point that I was hoping would come up. Dream draft for Lions fans in my opinion.
#7 - Patrick Willis, MLB
34 - Drew Stanton, QB
#35 - Charles Johnson, DE
#68 - Ben Patrick, TE
Not even to get a guy they really want? The Lions aren't getting any picks from the Vikings.
Nope. Not even to get a guy they really want? The Lions aren't getting any picks from the Vikings.
And when Dan Morgan get knocked out for the 18th time, their greatest need will be at middle backer. Am I wrong in thinking that TE is a nice to have position rather than absolute necessity like middle backer and safety? Minter already told them that he is retiring 2007 and if Morgan knew what was good for him, he would already be retired. There's two things that make this make sense to me. 1) The Panthers greatest need is a TE (or WR) that can take pressure off Steve Smith
that would be a tremendous feat for the Lions...great draft day work. And if my Browns can come out of the first two rounds with Quinn and Jarrett, I would be thrilled. We have alot of holes, but this would give our offense no excuses. I think our O-line was just destroyed by injury, so if they can return to health with the addition of Steinbach, it will be good enough.Sigmund Bloom said:"Like Nothing You've Ever Seen Before" = a mock where the Lions (ahem Millen) actually play the draft correctly!Adding an early 2nd and 4th while still adding an immediate impact player at a huge position of need would be a master stroke of brilliance. I would have to stock being so hard on Millen if this actually unfolded.
to me the panthers need a few things. 1) someone to help Steve Smith....whether that be a potential all world TE like Olsen or waiting to look for a WR in the second. this is a pretty deep draft class at the WR position2) ILB....As much as I like morgan, he is a health risk waiting for the IR. I am not sure there is a ILB worthy of the 14th overall pick. 3) backup QB......having williams take direct snaps just ain't gonna cut it. 4) they need their players to play. to me no other team underacheived as much as they did. I had very high hopes for them and last year was quite a letdown. 5) something I never understood was their redzone offense. To me this is a no brainer but why not put in Peppers @ TE in goal line situations. He played power forward for UNC basketball.....I mean if warren sapp and Joe klecko can be a redzone threat for their respective teams and other teams use converted basketball players at TE, how is Peppers not perfect on the goal line. I am not saying to use him all the time. but they need more options on offense. just my $0.02Donnybrook said:And when Dan Morgan get knocked out for the 18th time, their greatest need will be at middle backer. FYI, They do this. Ive seen Peppers draw a few PI penalties in the end zone as a receiver.5) something I never understood was their redzone offense. But at the spot they're at in the draft, DL may not be the best value. The assumption with the Beason pick was that Al Wilson is gone.rascal said:The Broncos had better not take a LB unless it's Patrick in the first round or Shanny needs to be bent over a barrell. The biggest flaw on this team is D-line.
