To the Pool:
If you're available Thursday night, I wanted to invite six members of the Shark Pool to the 2006 Rearview Auction.
I'll try and keep this brief, since this is just the first step. If you want in, and are selected (more on this down below) I'll explain more. Basically, I want to run a 12-team league auction draft, based entirely on the 2006 results. We would simply add up each player's end of year fantasy points post-auction to see who "won". There would be no selecting of backups, and no committees (since we don't use weekly results). You select 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 D/ST, 1 PK and 1 RB/WR.
In terms of time, this is nothing more than a few hours to draft this Thurday (4/12) night. There will also be a small post and/or pre-auction writeup. If you aren't available, that's totally cool. Please don't commit unless you can 1) prepare thoroughly for the auction; 2) block out a few hours Thursday night and have a strong internet connection; 3) write the pre and post-draft write-ups.
The highest scoring non-staff member will receive a free 2007 subscription to FBGs.
Selection: The six (and two alternates) will be selected based entirely on my subjective decision. All decisions are final. I'm sorry if we won't be able to accomodate everyone that wants to be in. Those with extensive auction experience will be preferred. Those who can demonstrate a commitment to this auction and/or an understanding how to win this auction will be selected. The goal here is to make this auction competitive; one or two unprepared or overwhelmed participants will decrease the utility of this experiment. I don't mind wasting my time or ideas so much, but it's the rest of the group that's going to be taking a few hours out of their week to do this. I'm sure you guys will come on through.
All applicants will be selected on Tuesday. I'd give a firm time, but I'm not sure of it yet.
