ESPN "The Huddle" LIVE now 3:00-7:00...4-21-07 (1 Viewer)

The first topic is of course the mary jane situation with Okoye, Johnson and Adams. They are basically saying that that ill not hurt the draft stock of any of the 3, but whoever leaked the info could have some trouble.

They are also discussing how every player has questions and if teams try to avoid any players with problems, there would be no draft.

They then move to talking about Brady Quinn and how many of the things people are knocking him for are actually positives.

Clayton says it looks like Turner will not be moved since SD is asking so much. He does not blame SD though and says it makse since to keep Turner since they will get a pick after losing him to FA next year.

Bills draft--

They are targeting Willis. If he goes at 11, what do the Bills do, Lynch or Puz?

* Green- you have to take Puz and add a RB later. Lynch has his questions and is falling in the ranks.

* Thomas could also keep the job, as Levy likes him.

4 Downs

1st down

What does signing Tory James mean for Samuel?

Green- Nothing, this is just depth for NE. You still have to try and keep Samuel if you are NE. They still need nim big time.

Clayton- Will they have Samuel? The signing is very significant as they are planning for life w/o Samuel. It is a smart signing and a good move.

2nd down

Is it a big deal that the players admitted drug use?

Green- It is not a big deal as they were being honest and there were surely players that were not honest. The leak of info is a bigger deal.

Clayton- It hurts the chance that players are honest in the future. It is also a dumb question to ask, since many do not want to know the answer.

3rd down

Who do the Raiders need more, Russell or Johnson?

Green- CJ2 is the best player, but they clearly need Russell more. They need someone to lead them and the QB gets many more touches of the ball. Russell will only get better.

Clayton- You have to get a QB if you don't have one, that is logical. CJ will be a great player, but he won't suceed w/o a QB. He had that experience in college too.

4th down

Is VY doomed with the Madden Curse?

Green- he is doomed beacuse Tenn has not given him any players to help him, not because of the Madden Curse. He has no WR 1 or 2 and his RB is LenDale White.

Clayton- 9 years of Madden Madness. The curse is for real. Do not step on the field until the regular season. We all love Madden unless you are on the cover.

Interviewing Darelle Revis

* says he played hur much of the year

* talks about his weekly preparation to be able to play with the injury

* played the season at 85%, yet he gave his all anyway

* compared himself with Leon Hall, although he said he did not get to see him very much. He loves playing against other teams' #1 WR the whole game.

* talked about how playing for a former NFL coach helped him, Very business like atmosphere. Have to grow up fast to play for him.

* playing CB is tough as something is happening almost every play when going man to man. Have to mirror the WR and you either make a play or get beat. Have to have some tricks and secrets to play some guys.

* likes to watch an model after Ty Law, Trufant, Bailey, D Hall

* talked more about his relationship with Ty Law.

* talked about how the draft could play out. Made 15 visits.

* Not sure where he will land, but has a good, comfortable feeling with many teams.

* Wants to focus on learning the play book from the beginning and wants to be a starter in year 1.

* It would be nice to go top 10, but how good would being a Steeler be? It would be great as a lifelong Steeler fan.

Interviewing Darelle Revis* says he played hur much of the year* talks about his weekly preparation to be able to play with the injury* played the season at 85%, yet he gave his all anyway* compared himself with Leon Hall, although he said he did not get to see him very much. This kid was very impressive in is interview. Very respectful and a good interview.

Back for hour 2

* Daymeion Hughes- stock is down, but he played so well during the season with 13 INTs.

* 40 time os overrated at times, sighting Nathan Vashar. He slipped to the 4th due to questions about his speed.

* Cover 2 vs Man scheme- Cover 2 is more of read a react, keep vision on QB and have safety help.

* Man scheme CBs have to have great hips and speed.

* Many CBs this year have incredible speed, but can they play that fast? Leon Hall does not play as fast as he ran. Hughes plays faster than he ran.

* Some have straight line speed, but with turning, hips, flips etc, sometime short term burst is better.

Greens' top CBs

1. Hall

2. Revis

3. Ross

4. McCauley

5. Houston

* CBs will get beat, but with making the big money like Clements, you are expected to never get beat. With CBs demanding more $$, expect more to get drafted earlier.

* CBs will go higher so teams can have them young rather than spend money in FA.

* 5-6 potentially could go in the 1st round.

* Jason David signs offer sheet with Saints. Colts will likely not match. Colts have played Cover 2 and Saints don't as much. Colts will get a 4th for David.

* Colts have lost David, Harper, June, Reagor. Colts D is not very good, but have the great offense. Def played well in playoffs, but not during the season. Will be in the market for 2 CBs in draft.

Interview Anthony Gonzalez

* Success was due to great coaching and past WRs at OSU. Learned from them and benefitted from them when playing with them.

* OSU offense have had different identities and played in different systems and roles. Learned a lot from that experience.

* Playing in the slot requires a diff mindset. Have to deal with LB, Safety and have to be aware of the entire defense and have to catch the ball in traffic. That is a must.

* If you know the D well, you will be able to find the holes in the D, but it is also just feel.

* As a WR, you use what you have. You have to be efficient out of your breaks. You have to refine cuts.

* Watches WRs in NFL- Marvin Harrison, can see how he sets up corners when running routes.

* Watches S Moss, who plays in the slot sometimes in Washington. Studeied his gamefilm.

* Toughest matchup- Malcolm Jenkins, CB from OSU

* Ginn Jr.- tough for him with the injury and losing the chance to play in the championship game. One of the greatest teammates you can have.

* T Smith- leader of the team and rallied the troops. He didn't play well, but nobody else did either. Impressive in big games, with that exception.

I am trying to get this typed as fast as I can with my hunt and peck typing style. If something isn't clear, please just ask and I will try and clarify.

Now talking about players that switch positions and interviewing CJ Gaddis, Clemson.

* It was a big change to switch positions and always had played QB.

* Due to athletic ability, was switched to CB.

* Happy with the change and it put him where he is now.

* Was easier for him to understand system being familar with the QB position.

* Quit baseball to focus on football, after seeing what he could do in football.

* Played in different systems in college and played man press early on. Then switched to cover 2 under a new Def Coord.

* Had a chance to play baseball for the Mariners, but passed.

* NE, Pitt, Dallas, SF have all shown interest in him.

* He would be happy to play anywhere, even Africa

Maybe these guys are just tring to mpress and treating this as a job interview, but all interviewees have been very impressive and respectful.

"Mr. Clayton, thanks for having me." It's an honor to be on with you" etc...

They say that to us too, they are just real respectful kids, the whole bunch.

Hour 3

Headlines-

* Kris Jenkins- no trade before draft likely. They want a 1, but others won't pay that. Could get a 2.

* Trent Green getting impatient and KC is still asking for a 2nd. Should be done before the draft still, maybe for a 5th. Miami doesn't have a 5th, which could be holding things up. Clayton says Miami drafts Quinn.

* McCown trade to Oakland looks dead. Oak will take Russell and try to get CPepp later in offseason. McCown never go much of a chance to compete for the job.

* Mike Williams was in minicamp this week. Will likely be released in June.

* Dillon- just wating for a spot to open up. Has not filed retirement papers.

Patrick Willis-

* hasn't been keeping up with mocks etc.

* has visited Dallas, Philly, NE, Buffalo, Cincy, Miami, NYG, Wash

* hasn't visited/talked with SF even though they are rumored to be interested.

* more comfortable in 4-3, but has been learning 3-4 defense on his visits to Dallas, NE and Miami.

* willing to do anything that coaches need him to

* hopefully showed that at the combine, pro day and workouts

* has his own style and doesn't really mold himself after someone.

* prefer to play MLB

Adrian Peterson

* has been counting the days until the draft, anxous and excited about the draft.

* tradition of starting RB at OU- blessing to be able to continue what some of the pas RBs have done.

* angry style of running (ala LJ)- had to growup fast, saw his brother killed when AD was 7. Remember him and tries to use that as motivation.

* What RBs do you watch- LT's cutting abaility and vision, breakaway speed.

Portis, Gore is a good RB.

* When turnign the corner and you see a LB, do you dance or go through him-- depends on the situation, short yardage, he'll go through him.

* Will be able to catch the ball out of the backfield, even though that wa not a big part of the OU offense. Looks forward to that aspect of the game.

* Worked with Quinn on pass catching this offseason in preparation for draft.

* More comfortable working with a single back offense, but will adjust to anything.

* Injury issues- everything will heal fully and when shoulder/collarbone heals, it will be stronger than before.

* Inuries are not serious/chronic as they were an ankle and collarbone. Ankle injury could happen in any spor or activity. Doesn't see any injury issues.

* Visited Detroit this week and had good feeling.

* Browns visit- they want to turn it around and want an impact player and "I fit in that category."

* Could knock Quinn out of goig to Cleveland. Wish the best for him, but it is a business.

Thanks Jeter2! I LOVE that Peterson mentioned LT, Portis, and Gore. 3 of my favorite backs in the league!

I don't even like baseball, being in the land of the Rockies and all, but Jeter is quickly becoming my new favorite player.
