I think hes talented but bottom line, his QBs stink right now. I see a slight uptick in last years #s.

time to put up or shut up for this dude. yeah frye is a marginal QB, and the offense was predictable, and weak. but shouldn't he share some of the blame? a dynamic receiver would help out the running game, and young QB. he's suppose to be that type of WR. i'll give him a bye on last year because of the injury. he did work his butt of and came back early.

no excuses this year. time to step it up. he's shown he can run his mouth, now lets see some numbers.

He's healthy, the O-Line should provide better protection, a slight uptick in the rushing game with the addition of J.Lewis to keep D's honest but the Browns will be playing from behind most of the season so Edwards should improve on last seasons numbers ...

Braylon Edwards tore his ACL on December 4th, 2005. Edwards shocked everyone by coming back from surgery to get on the field at the start of the 2006 season. However, playing and being 100% healthy are two different things. It was obvious to those who watched Braylon Edwards play on a regular basis that he was not the same player that he was before the injury. he looked slow - dreadfully slow at times.

The general rule of thumb is that it takes an NFL player two years to fully recover from a major knee injury (if he ever recovers at all). While some have bounced back sooner, there is no reason to expect Edwards to be one such case. It will be two years in december. Basically, one should expect that Edwards will not be a top fantasy WR this season.

As I said when Edwards blew out his knee, we won't be able to judge him until we see him play in 2008. After his 2008 season is complete, THEN we will be able to assess where his career is at as an NFL WR and a fantasy prospect for the 2009 season.

At best, perhaps you could be looking at a sleeper WR for 2008. But not this year. Not with a rookie QB.

This was the 1st year after the knee injury, meaning that his production should be in for a modest increase at the very least, with the potential of a significant increase. Having a rookie QB may slow Edwards production, but in light of Edwards superior talent and past production in subpar circumstances, it would be difficult to predict anything less than 70 for 900 and 8.

I see two things pulling him down:1. Rookie QB2. Still not recovered from the ACL.He added 1. Hasn't gotten rid of 2 yet. And there is no guarantee he will ever get rid of 2. Some players NEVER fully recover from a torn ACL.

1. is only a factor if Romeo believes Quinn is better than Frye. I suspect he will, but I don't see that as a reason to knock Braylon. Simply put, the better QB will be on the field, whether that's a 3rd year Frye or rookie Quinn. I like Braylon a lot, but my expectations are tempered this year, I just see him improving from last year.75 / 1050 / 8

The thing is, it would have been perfectly normal if Braylon Edwards had missed most or even ALL of 2006 with the torn ACL. How would you feel about him if THIS was his first year back? Why should the fact that he played (and played poorly) in 2006 change how you feel about his ACL?
 
Braylon was developing nicely during his rookie season until it was cut short by a significant knee injury.

He showed grit and toughness and good work ethic coming back early from the injury but he was not himself. While two years has been the benchmark for recovery from these injuries in the past, I think sports medicine has improved. I'd tell everyone I can that it takes two years to recover but be willing to take a chance on 18 months and draft him for his upside.

However, his upside is limited by the fact that the rest of the offense will probably continue to stink and they are bringing on a rookie QB.

If you think the offense is going to improve, I'd expect good things from Braylon (85 catches, 1250 yards, 8 TDs).

If you think the offense will be about the same, I'd expect a servicable but unspectacular season with only a few TD opportunities (70 catches, 1020 yards, 3 TDs).

 
why do you keep harping on rookie QB. RIGHT NOW quinn is probably 3rd string. of coarse that should change, but for now frye is the starter, and anderson is his back-up. both are capable, and quinn will have to beat them out.

Ok, and Braylon still got 61/884/6 with Frye. Someone is going to have to explain why he wouldn't meet or exceed those stats. better than BGP did.

From what I've heard, they have improved the recovery time on ACL surgeries to 1 year and I think this new procedure started 2 seasons ago. Carson Palmer was another early recovery under this new technique. Maybe a doc or someone who heard the same thing I did can fill us in more.Now with Braylon , up until going into this season I didnt think Braylon was'nt %100 ready mentally to be a NFL 1. But even during the injuries when he wasnt touching the field I think he was growing. He also got those last few games under his belt last season which helped. So while i think Braylon is now ready the problem has shifted to the QB play.
 
You have to factor in the Browns adding Joe Thomas and Eric Steinbach to their line. HUGE difference in both the passing game and the running game. Maybe they won't have 3rd and longs all game long and will not be able to drop back in deep zones. The QB's should have more time to throw because of the line being better

I have to think Frye will QB part of the season, and this being his 3rd year, he should improve, especially with the line being better.

Braylon was not 100% healthy last year, and still put up decent numbers for a 2nd year WR. I have to believe this, plus the usual 3rd year progression should lead to much better numbers, regardless of who the QB is.

I'm not a doctor but the recovery to get back on the field is quicker but the time to get back to normal is still around 2 years. Palmer admitted that his throwing mechanics were off because he was still recovering. Palmer is a QB so I expected that the effect is much greater on a WR.

:popcorn: Offensive line is betterRB is betterQB should be better with more experience (I don't expect Quinn to start, and actually don't see him signing on time)Braylon will be better as he is entering his 3rd year, and should be 100% healthy, and have his speed back. I can't imagine Braylon not being better than last season. I don't see one reason he could actually be worse. I think people are underestimating the significant upgrade on the line. Thomas and Steinbach are tons better than what they had last year, and that will benefit the entire offense.

As a few others have said, to expect the same or less from a guy a whole year removed from his injury, with (realistically) at least a slightly better OL, better QBing (sooner or later :goodposting: ) and slightly better RB, makes no sense. I think he cracks 1000 and nabs about 8 TDs, with upside to a bit more.PS to add: I will say I haven't seen him in pre-season. Has he played? Any strong impressions anyone?

He looked great against the Lions last week, much better than he ever looked last year.

True. But like I said there's more at work here than just trying to overcome a torn ACL.Here are the factors working against Braylon Edwards in 2007.

Still has not proven he has come back from a torn ACL
The QB situation is a mess - none of the rostered signal-callers has proven they can play at the NFL level.
If Brady Quinn starts, the entire offense may be set back substantially. This is more likely to occur towards the end of the year when you are in the playoffs.
If the team gets off to a slow start, Crennel may get fired. That means a new head coach. That means a new offense could be installed. Who knows if it favors Edwards at all.
The OL has promise but has never produced on the field. Without good blocking, the passing game may suffer greatly.
Edwards has shown issues with being immature, and another losing season might aggravate that even more.I think it is unreasonable to expect the Browns to avoid all of these pitfalls. IF Romeo is the coach for the entire season, IF the OL gels, IF they get a miracle at QB, IF Braylon Edwards is no longer hampered by the torn ACL, and IF Edwards keeps his head on straight, you might like Braylon Edwards to improve upon his 2007. But I think the offense is in flux and its best to say the pieces could be place for a good season...in 2008.

If there was a case to be made that some player is going to fall off in production .... Braylon Edwards is a great choice.

You lost me at the end. I can understand the pessimism against taking the next step up but I really don't see a falloff in production since most things are unchanged.- The QB position was a mess last year

- The o-line will be better, how much better remains to be seen

- He played with the same ACL injury last year and I haven't heard any setbacks so I don't see why he should regress due to the knee

- Coach's are rarely fired mid-year and if they did they aren't going to put a new system in mid-year

The only thing I see that would impact him negatively is if Quinn came in but that could help as much as it hurts him considering the other crappy qb's they have.

 
Edwards CLEARLY was slower last season. I distinctly remember one play where he got open, caught the ball, had NOTHING but the end zone in front of him, but he had no burst. He ran maybe 15-30 yards before a safety caught him from behind and tackled him. Edwards got up visibly frustrated and tossed the ball away angrily. He knew right then he was not the same player. I've watched the Browns, I know he isn't the same player as before the injury.

He hasn't played yet, so that's not possible. Not in a real game.

He has played 2 preseason games. Whether you like them or not, players don't run half speed in them. Braylon is in excellent shape and running fast and very fluid as well. There is no question his knee is 100%. If you saw him last year, then this year, it is like night and day.

Of course he was slower last year. When the season started, he was only 8-9 months from the torn ACL. He was never healthy last year. Anyone could see that last year. He is 100% now and it shows.

Too early. Wait until he has a few full regular season games under his belt.

what brings you to this conclusion? His ACL is fine.... :goodposting: I see him getting the same stats as Fitz this year (no Q competition) and he has a much greater draft value....once him and brady sink in down the road...I think we are in store for great things for the dog pound...1150 yards, and 10 tds....his time has come...

His ACL is fine.... :D I see him getting the same stats as Fitz this year (no Q competition) and he has a much greater draft value....once him and brady sink in down the road...I think we are in store for great things for the dog pound...1150 yards, and 10 tds....his time has come...

I absolutely agree Edwards has draft value. He is an interesting late pick. But as far as making a projection, I think the most likely scenario is that things go wrong in 2007. Edwards would be a nice choice as perhaps the last WR you select. At the end of your fantasy bench. He went in the 6th round in my draft which was crazy, though.

So a teams number 1 WR who put up 880 and 6 tds last year is not draftable until your 5 or 6 WR. Give me a break and go buy some gold.

:banned: Hard to see him not bettering last year's numbers across the board.Right now I'm waiting to see how Frye does Sat. against the Broncos.
 
I hate Clev, but I have to say I see this team improving. On both sides of the ball. Seeing this is about offense however, I will only comment on those improvements. Better Oline, best RB they have had in years, more chemistry, healthy players (crosses fingers) and better QBs (even though I don't care for Quinn). I think Edwards has a great year.

Bump. Interested to see what people think after seeing Quinn's performance. Yeah I know it was against the nth string but really, I think he looked very good.

 
So with Frye being traded and Quinn looking to start pretty soon, is it now a good time to trade for him (as a target WR2) after his poor week 1 showing?

This may be a bit too obvious, unless you have a completely clueless trade partner.I think waiting a week or two and seeing if the results remain poor would be a better move. The current B.E. owner is still loving him after the draft.

Quinn will need time to adjust to the speed of the NFL and his check-downs will be limited. He will be locked into B. Edwards and K. Winslow but that is what Frye did anyway. I'm hoping they don't baby Quinn to the point where the pass plays come exclusively when it is 3rd down. It would be nice to showcase the talent of Quinn, Edwards, and KW on 1st and 2nd downs and limit the touches of the plodding J. Lewis. Unfortunately, I don't believe Cle. will sling the ball. Too bad, I'm a B. Edwards owner. :shrug:

True stat: Edwards had three tackles on Sunday.

Given how bad the Browns offense is, I think he's worth a look in IDP leagues.

True. But like I said there's more at work here than just trying to overcome a torn ACL.Here are the factors working against Braylon Edwards in 2007.

Still has not proven he has come back from a torn ACL
The QB situation is a mess - none of the rostered signal-callers has proven they can play at the NFL level.
If Brady Quinn starts, the entire offense may be set back substantially. This is more likely to occur towards the end of the year when you are in the playoffs.
If the team gets off to a slow start, Crennel may get fired. That means a new head coach. That means a new offense could be installed. Who knows if it favors Edwards at all.
The OL has promise but has never produced on the field. Without good blocking, the passing game may suffer greatly.
Edwards has shown issues with being immature, and another losing season might aggravate that even more.I think it is unreasonable to expect the Browns to avoid all of these pitfalls. IF Romeo is the coach for the entire season, IF the OL gels, IF they get a miracle at QB, IF Braylon Edwards is no longer hampered by the torn ACL, and IF Edwards keeps his head on straight, you might like Braylon Edwards to improve upon his 2007. But I think the offense is in flux and its best to say the pieces could be place for a good season...in 2008.

If there was a case to be made that some player is going to fall off in production .... Braylon Edwards is a great choice.

Interesting, today the Commissioner in my league offered me Edwards for Ronnie Brown. Seems like a toss-up.
