Zoo York
2007 Player Spotlight Series

Over the course of the offseason, we will be evaluating a multitude of players at every fantasy position. One such way we go about that is through the Player Spotlight series. Think of the Spotlights as a permanent record on some of the more intriguing players for the upcoming season. Each Spotlight will be featured in an article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Jeremy Shockey, TE, New York Giants

Player Page Link: Jeremy Shockey Player Page

Each article will include:

Detailed viewpoint from a Footballguys staff member
Highlighted member commentary from the message board threads
FBG Projections
Consensus Member ProjectionsThe Rules

In order for this thread to provide sustainable value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:

Focus commentary on the player in question, and your expectations for said player
Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"
To be included in the final synopsis and consensus outlook, you MUST provide projections for the playerProjections should include (at a minimum):

For QBs: Passing Yards, Passing TDs, Ints, Rush Yards, Rush TDs
For RBs: Rushes, Rushing Yards, Rush TDs, Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs
For WRs & TEs: Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDsBest of Luck and ENJOY!

The loss of Tiki Barber will have a negative affect on that offense. Shockey is an emotional player and I just think things will be going wrong in New York this season, leading to a disappointmenting season.

60 receptions for 595 yards and 5 td's

This guy is a top 5 TE. Not much else to say. He disappears at times but what TE (other than Gates) doesnt.

65 rec, 800 yds, 7 tds

72 catches 820 yards and 8 td's

A few more catches than usual due to Tiki's dump passes having to go somewhere else which equates to a few more yards and another td. I just acquired him this year and I am excited to have him.

What can't you really like about Shockey, he is a true gamer who gives every ounce of energy he has got.

Also a good red zone reciever with his back to back 7 td preformances, which is something only Gates can say, the previous 2 years (both years missing a game.)

Look for Shockey to get back into the top 5 this year.

I think that no Tiki will equal a few more passes to Shockey. 70 850 8
I think No Tiki implodes that offense. You can say a few more passes but when frustration sets in...that in no way will help Shockey. He's the type of player who would get ticked off, try to show the world how ticked off he is and then go up and try to make some huge block and end up hurting himself by going overboard.I've had buddies like that in real life, at a party when we were younger and they'd get angry over something stupid, then to prove just how mad they were, they felt they needed to show everyone and punch a wall. However, there are studs behind the wall and hit the stud and broke his hand. I don't know why, but Jeremy Shockey just reminds me of that kind of guy.*end of hijack*

Yep. No Tiki = suckier offense = fewer plays = fewer touches for Shockey (and the whole O). No thanks. He will be overpriced this year.

There is no doubt that the loss of Tiki Barber will have a significant impact on the NY Giants offense in 07. I think that I am one of the few remaining believers in Eli Manning and 07 is definitely a make or break season for him. I think that the forced leadership will be good for Eli and he will have a much improved season. If he does and if Shockey can stay healthy (two huge ifs), then Shockey could be in for a career year.

In Shockey's five seasons, he has yet to play all the games, going for 15 in four years and only nine in 03. He is such a warrior that he seeks contact on almost every play. He also has had lingering ankle issues that he has played through with reduced output.

On the positive side, he has had over 100 targets in three years, 95 the other year he played 15 games, and even averaged almost eight per game in his shortened season, so he has always been a major part of the Giants Offense. His last three years he has had 6, 7, and 7 TDs so Eli looks for him at the goal line.

The big positive is that Tiki has also been a huge receiving threat and although Doughns will get some of those, Jacobs probably not so many and I think this will even increase Shockey's role.

Shockey 140 targets 80 receptions 880 yards and 8 TDs

This is my concern as well. If the Giants can put together a winning season, Shockey may approach Gates's production. If they start losing, he could implode. High (life is good) end: 75/900/10

low (Tiki-less team terrible) end: 60/650/4
